The University of Findlay ENVIRONMENTAL, SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH MANAGEMENT
The Difference Do you like finding ways to make the world greener? Find solutions for pollution, waste minimization, energy conservation or alternative energy. Do you like teaching? Educate others about environmental, safety, occupational health, environmental public health or hazardous materials-related topics. Do you like to see justice served? Interpret laws and regulations regarding the environment, hazardous materials, occupational safety and occupational health. Work independently or for corporations, federal agencies or communities. Defend corporate actions or represent communities or individuals. Do you like handling money? Oversee financing in the area of environmental liabilities, including buying, selling and acquiring of properties that may be or have been contaminated. These are just a few examples of ways you can solve problems and make an impact on the world with a degree in environmental, safety and occupational health management. The ESOH program is accredited by the American Board of Engineering Technology (ABET). Keyword: ESOH
What I learned in the environmental, safety and occupational health management program was valuable. It gave me a baseline of safety knowledge and how to locate information. The ESOH program prepares you for a broad range of jobs. Mike Chambers 10 Safety adviser, BP - Husky Toledo Refinery Oregon, Ohio Keyword: ESOH
Tailor your interests whatever they may be to build a successful career. If you enjoy being a problem solver, and you want to make a difference in the world or the workplace, then a major in environmental, safety and occupational health management may be a good choice for you. Findlay s environmental, safety and occupational health management program will prepare you to be versatile and successful in a career. Program facts: Findlay s one-of-a-kind program combines educational course work with professional internships and hands-on training in USEPA and OSHA training programs at a nationally recog nized training facility. 100-percent job placement upon completion of the degree. 100-percent placement in professional experience programs. Starting salaries of $45,000 to $63,000; average salary of $50,000. Summer employment is available and students can net $14,000 for summer work. Learn from faculty who average 25-plus years experience in the environmental, safety and/or occupational health fields. Learn in small classes where students work together on projects.
The environmental, safety and occupational health (ESOH) management program prepares students to use applied science and knowledge of regulations to solve problems and make a difference in their workplaces, their communities and their countries. Our graduates also serve as environmental watchdogs in the community, assuring safe supplies of food and drinking water; reducing air, water, food and noise pollution; and investigating the source of certain illnesses and diseases. They work for state, county and city health agencies, the federal government and international organizations. The ESOH program lets students choose how they want to make a difference by allowing them to focus on one of five areas: 1. Environmental compliance 2. Environmental health 3. Safety/industrial hygiene 4. Sustainability 5. Emergency management Environmental Compliance Students learn to protect the environment by studying regulations and policies, environmental hazards and cleanup processes. This focus can lead to a career with a governmental regulatory agency like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or with private industry. Environmental Health This program is for students who want to help protect others by maintaining a healthy environment. As workplace equipment, chemicals and conditions present more threats to health and safety, industry and government agencies continue to generate significant demand for graduates trained in environmental health. Keyword: ESOH
Safety/Industrial Hygiene What better way to make a difference than by helping to protect your coworkers and members of your community? By focusing on workplace safety; students learn to help prevent and control hazards (asbestos, falls, hazardous drug exposures, carbon monoxide, etc.), study work-related illnesses and injuries and learn how to train others in safety procedures. Industrial hygienists keep workers, their families and the community healthy and safe. Students with this focus can expect to play a vital role in ensuring that federal, state and local laws are followed in the work environment. Industrial hygienists work with issues that concern all of us, e.g., indoor air quality, environmental lead exposure, emergency response planning and education, and occupational diseases. Sustainability A major interest of today s science professionals is the impact made by the destruction of biophysical resources, and especially the earth s ecosystems. Individuals in this program will learn the principles of sustainable development, meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Emergency Management Students learn to assess threats and vulnerability, and become proficient at mitigating the impact of emergency events through planning. They also learn how to respond to natural and manmade disasters. Job opportunities exist in local, state and federal government agencies as well as private industry. Emergency management specialist is listed in U.S. News & World Report s Best Jobs of 2011, (Dec. 6, 2010), and the Bureau of Labor Statistics expects employment in this field to grow by 2,800, or 22 percent, between Emergency management specialists develop disaster response plans and train others in disaster management. Graduates in the field are especially sought after by hospitals, colleges and universities and community relief organizations. Consider the ESOH program if... You are a science-oriented student who wants to Be a part of the environmental focus of our communities and our nation. Whether you want to help maintain a healthy environment in the workplace; protect the environment itself through policies or sustainable practices; prevent work-related illnesses and injuries; or respond to emergencies and threats, The University of Findlay welcomes you!
