1 Foundations of Recovery This course will provide participants with an understanding of and a definition of recovery, the key components of recovery, and provide important information regarding the historical perspectives of the recovery process and the delivery of recovery services. Define the term Recovery. Review the historical content of the recovery process and delivery of services. Discuss the key principles of the recovery process. Defining Peer Recovery Support Services This course will provide participants with the understanding of what Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care and Peer Recovery Support Services are. This will include gaining an understanding of the elements of Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care and Peer Recovery Support Services. Gain an understanding of Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care Define Recovery Support Services Describe the types of peer support and recovery support services Science of Addiction and Recovery - This session will provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to explain brain functioning during addiction and recovery in a practical way to individuals and family members to help them understand behaviors and thought processes during addiction and activities that will support recovery. To gain an understanding how the brain is affected by substance use, abuse and addiction. To gain an understanding how the brain functions in recovery. To apply this knowledge to our understanding of what works in peer support services. Trauma Concerns This course aims to provide participants with an understanding of what trauma is and how it relates to addiction and the recovery process. During this course the participant will gain an understanding of what trauma-informed services are and how to apply this knowledge. Also this course aims to help the CRS reduce the likelihood of secondary trauma taking place. To understand what trauma is and how the effects of trauma relate to addiction and the recovery process. To become trauma-informed and apply this knowledge to peer-to-peer interactions. To reduce the likelihood of secondary trauma.
2 Process Addictions - This course will provide participants with an overview of process (non-substance-related addictions), their interactions with substance use disorders, and implications for recovery. Participants will also apply the Stages of Change model to enhance their understanding of dealing with process addictions. To gain an understanding of what a process addiction is. To gain insight to how recovery plans are developed to treat process addictions. To gain an understanding of how the stages of change are applied to process addictions. Co-Occurring Disorders This course will provide participants with an understanding of mental health and other disorders that may co-occur with addiction and discuss the integration of recovery plans to address multiple concerns. This course will provide each participant with strategies for decreasing the negative impact of co-occurring disorders and provides resources for mental health recovery. To gain insight into mental health and other disorders that may occur with addiction. To discuss the integration of recovery plans to address multiple concerns. Fundamentals of Recovery Coaching/Defining the CRS Role This course offers participants insight into the key knowledge, skills and characteristics of a Certified Recovery Specialist. It will also help each participant gain an understanding of the differences between the role of the CRS and other recovery-related roles, such as counselor, sponsor, and more. Define the knowledge, skills, and characteristics of a Certified Recovery Specialist. Review the specific roles of a Certified Recovery Specialist. Distinguish between the CRS Role and other recovery-related roles. Facilitating Recovery Planning - In this course each participant will be introduced to a sample Recovery Plan and how to develop this instrumental component of helping clients develop an individualized recovery plan of action. Topics will include assessing, utilizing, and enhancing recovery capital, techniques used in recovery planning, and monitoring and evaluating the recovery plan. Introduce the concept of a Recovery Plan. Review techniques that are used when developing a Recovery Plan. Review the three categories of Recovery Capital and explain how to conduct a RC assessment. Discuss how to monitor and evaluate a Recovery Plan.
3 Family Impact of Addiction - This course will offer each participant a look into addiction as a family disease. It focuses on family systems and ecological theory to detail the impact of addiction on the family system and provides each participant with strategies, resources, and support to work with families and the individual who are dealing with the impact of the disease of addiction. Gain insight and discuss the impact addiction has on a family. Gain insight and review the available resources for families that are affected by addiction. Ethics & Self-Care for the CRS - This course will help each participant gain an understanding of the ethical relevance of self-care, as well as develop strategies to ensure the CRS maintains their individual self-care needs. This will be done by helping each participant identify their own stress style, effective self-care modalities, and have each participant develop their own personalized self-care plan. Discuss why self-care is relevant to being a CRS. Discuss the ethical responsibility for self-care as required for peer-based recovery support services. Develop a personal self-care plan. Many Pathways to Recovery This course will provide participants with an understanding that there are many pathways to recovery. This course will also help the CRS to work with each client they serve to help them develop a pathway way to recovery that best fits the individual. This course will help the CRS become more open and knowledgeable about the various pathways to recovery that are available for those they serve. Gain an understanding of the history of the Recovery Movement. Identify pathways to recovery and resources for recovering Individuals Gain insight into the advantages and disadvantages of Mutual Support Groups. Gain an understanding of the types of recovery, recovery identities, and recovery relationships. Gain an understanding of the components of what a certified recovery specialist does in relation to helping and individual in recovery. Communications Skill Building for Individuals and Groups - This session provides strategies for successful communication with both individuals and groups. Motivational interviewing principles and skills will be reviewed and practiced. Session topics also include group facilitation skills, dealing effectively with common group behaviors and dynamics, and conflict resolution. Gain an understanding of the principles of Motivational Interviewing for use in providing recovery support services.
4 Gain an understanding of various types of communication issues when working with individuals and groups. To gain an understanding of how to facilitate meetings and groups Basic Concepts of Ethics in Peer Culture - This session will review the roles that peer providers play in the development and delivery of ethical services, and presents the collective experiences of organizations that have been providing peer-based recovery support services. Participants will leave with a greater understanding of complex ethical and boundary issues, and how they can be handled. Identify the functions and roles peers play in the development and delivery of ethical peer-based recovery services. Identify the core values and obligations of the CRS. Increase understanding ethics, codes of ethics and laws surrounding ethical conduct. Identify ethical issues that could arise and offer guidance in dealing with ethical issues. Values, Ethics and Boundaries in Peer Culture - A continuation of Basic Concepts in Peer Culture, in this session participants will work hands-on with realistic case studies to solve ethical dilemmas. It will also allow participants to define and understand professionalism, examine their own work-related values, and beliefs, and create personal action plans for ethical and professional conduct. Identify what professionalism is and the components of professionalism. Gain a deeper insight into boundaries, boundary violations, and setting healthy boundaries. Gain a deeper insight into values, values conflicts and avoiding value conflicts. Message, Media, and Advocacy - This session provides an overview of the media s role in recovery advocacy and helps participants create effective recovery messaging for various media including television, radio, and print. Strategies for advocating for recovery will be discussed, as well as the intersection between advocacy and anonymity. Learn about messaging. Learn how to tell your recovery story to your friends and family. Learn how to use recovery messages in all parts of your life, including representing the organized recovery community in the media and other public places.
5 The Evolving Role of Self-Disclosure - This session will provide a historical overview of the use (or non-use) of self-disclosure in these professions. Participants will discuss the significance of self-disclosure in the recovery process and appropriate uses of self-disclosure in the CRS role. Define self-disclosure. Identify the four types Of self-disclosure. Gain insight into the advantages and disadvantages of self-disclosure. Identify how to self-disclose effectively and purposefully. Confidentiality Values and Principles - Part one of confidentiality training review the basics of confidentiality regulations, including federal and state laws governing confidentiality policies and practices, and defines terms associated with confidentiality. It stresses how confidentiality is applied to peer recovery support services To define terms involving confidentiality. To provide an overview of Federal and State regulations and guidelines. To provide insight into the requirements for peer recovery services. Implementing Confidentiality Practices - The companion session to Confidentiality Values and Principles, this session focuses on putting the knowledge of principles and regulations to practical use. It will provide examples of policies and procedures that organizations utilize to ensure confidentiality for the participants and will make use of interactive case studies to illustrate confidentiality issues and practices. To review Federal and State confidentiality regulations and laws. To apply these regulations and laws to practical situations.
