2 Background AIA Supplier Management Council (SMC) represents members of aerospace & defense supply chain SMC is working closely with the AIA Electronic Enterprise Integration Committee (EEIC) to consider TSCP and its application/impact on suppliers Survey regarding relevant TSCP issues completed by suppliers at most recent SMC meeting (October 9, 2013) Survey comprised of 10 questions... plus, suppliers were asked if they are willing to be directly involved in the TSCP process

3 What is SMC? AIA Council that represents the aerospace supply chain and its issues and needs ~200 members representing broad spectrum of supply chain Engaged in multiple issues and activities in support of the industry, including --Policy and regulation (e.g., Conflict Minerals) --New and ongoing initiatives (e.g., cyber security, TSCP) --Supporting industry issues with Government agencies and Congress --Assisting with the larger AIA vision (e.g., Second to None) Bringing the voice and perspective from the supply chain, which represents ~70% of aerospace product content/value 3

4 SMC Mission Statement The mission of the Supplier Management Council is to: Integrate and focus the collective capabilities of the supply chain, at every level Exert unique influence in the formation of strategy, policy, and regulations that enable the U.S Aerospace and Defense Industry to successfully compete in the global market, be profitable, and strengthen the U.S. position as a world leader.

5 SMC has a Close Working Relationship with EEIC and other AIA Councils & Groups Board of Governors. 6 Relevance of Supplier Feedback They represent some 70% of the content of most aerospace & defense systems They directly experience the business impact of multiple credential requirements from their customers They are often the unwilling and/or unwitting recipients of good ideas and new initiatives from their customers They will provide candid answers to questions

7 Survey Six General Categories Pervasiveness, breadth of impact of customer-issued credentials Ease of use Number of credentials required Burden of credential requirements Whether a single credential requirement is a good idea Willingness of suppliers to help further the TSCP process

8 Pervasiveness, Breadth of Impact Question: Must you have customer-issued credentials to access the customer s database? Answer: 100% responded yes The requirement for customer-issued credentials is universal across the supply chain

9 Pervasiveness, Breadth of Impact Question: Are you required to have individual customer-issued credentials for each employee with access to customer data? Yes No 92% require individual customer-issued credentials 9

10 Ease of Use Question: How difficult is it to get customer-issued credentials? Moderately Difficult Easy Very Difficult 4 out of 5 report that it is moderately or very difficult 10

11 Ease of Use Question: After customer credentials are issued, do they need to be periodically renewed? Yes No 3 out of 4 must have credentials renewed 11

12 Ease of Use Question: If there is a renewal requirement, how much effort is required to renew them? 68% report that renewal requires moderate to considerable effort 12

13 Ease of Use Question: Once logged in to a customer s site, does it time out after a given period of inactivity? Yes No 9 out of 10 report that the customer site times out 13

18 Supplier Willingness to Help Question: Would you be willing to assist in defining and applying the TSCP capability? 13 suppliers provided their personal and company information and indicated a willingness to help 18

19 Summary & Conclusions Widespread agreement among suppliers that multiple customer credential requirements is a burden Similar widespread agreement that the TSCP approach is a good idea 13 suppliers are willing to help with the TSCP process TSCP has the interest and support from the supply chain Challenge now is to make it work in way that is truly value-added for suppliers not just another unfunded mandate
