5 The 2015 MCAT: What are the Implications?! (Taken from the Pre Med Planning Guide published by the Office of Pre Professional Programs and Advising) For the Class of 2016 and beyond, the new MCAT is the major factor to be taken into account in the academic portion of premedical planning. 1. A course in biochemistry is now required in addition to introductory sequences in biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics BME students take Molecules and Cells 2. A course in statistics is now required. There are numerous courses at JHU that provide a strong foundational knowledge of research methods and statistics concepts BME students take Probability and Statistics or It is in your best interest to take a one semester introductory level psychology course and a one semester introductorylevel sociology course: Sociology The Culture of Medicine; Introduction to Sociology; Medical Sociology; Population, Health and Development Psychology Introduction to Psychology; Introduction to Cognitive Psychology; Foundations of Brain, Behavior and Cognition; Introduction to Social Psychology; Developmental Psychology; Cognition; Cognitivie Neuropsychology 3. Realize that any course which emphasizes ethics, philosophy, cross cultural studies, and population health, regardless of the discipline, will be a valuable addition to your JHU education and can play an important role in your preparation for both the MCAT and your future in medicine
