3 Introduction This logbook is to help trainers and assessors demonstrate compliance with Standard 15.4 for NVR Registered Training Organisations Training and assessment is delivered by trainers and assessors who: (a) have the necessary training and assessment competencies as determined by the National Quality Council or its successors; and (b) have the relevant vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered or assessed; and (c) can demonstrate current industry skills directly relevant to the training/ assessment being undertaken; and (d) continue to develop their vocational education and training (VET) knowledge and skills as well as their industry currency and trainer/assessor competence To summarise Trainers need The qualifications, down to the unit level Recent and relevant experience doing that job in industry And recent PD for training, assessing and for their vocational area This logbook is provided for the purpose of documenting and providing evidence of the activities you have taken to meet currency requirements and therefore requires that you obtain verification of your involvement in the various activities and experiences. There are 3 tables for you to complete Instructions A: Work in industry documents when and what activities you undertake when participating in industry activities B: Non-work industry experiences - documents the range of your non-work industry experiences C: VET experiences - documents your professional development in VET knowledge and skills and trainer/assessor competence It is very important that you complete the logbook at the time of the activity and have the activity signed off where appropriate or keep other evidence of your participation. In addition there is a Professional Development Plan which you can complete as a record of your planned activities for the coming year. 4 Name of trainer/assessor: Industry Currency Log A: Work in industry: Use this table to demonstrate how your in-industry time relates to the units of competency for which you are the trainer /assessor. Suggested activities to complete during your In-Industry time The following list of activities will provide a focus for your In-Industry time so that you deepen your understanding of current workplace practice. Your attention should be directed towards identifying the changes that have occurred or are expected to occur and the impact of the changes on work behaviour. Changes can occur in many domains, for example Technology Legislation Professional development requirements Work practices Management of supply chain Success of the industry as a whole Production schedules Work conditions & employment patterns At a minimum Collect job descriptions/duty statements for the variety of roles that relate to the area in which you train this will keep you informed about changes in work roles and duties Identify what, if any, legislative or regulatory changes have occurred and how this has impacted the work environment e.g. WHS Act Discuss with workplace staff the technology changes happening and the impact of this on the duties and tasks of the workplace. Other activities you could undertake include Work shadowing Specific projects Attending team meetings Participating in a training program Site observations 4

8 Professional Development Plan To meet both your own professional development needs and the needs of the RTO where you work, it is expected that a certain amount of Professional Development and Training is undertaken each year. Professional Development activities can consist of a variety of activities which include, but are not limited to Back to industry days Work shadowing Site visits Attending workshops and seminars Being a member of a professional association Subscribing to industry/trade journals Subscribing to Newsletters Recent undertaking of training/assessment activities Participating in moderation/validation activities Undertaking internal reviews Networking activities The following questions will help guide your reflections on your professional development requirements.
