11 Get Started The fllwing tpics give yu all the infrmatin yu need t set up yur phne and Sprint service the first time. Set Up Yur Phne Yu must first install and charge the battery t begin setting up yur phne. Install the Battery 1. Insert a cin r ther flat bject int the slt at the tp f the battery cmpartment cver and lift the cver up gently. Get Started 1

12 2. Insert the battery, cntacts end first, and gently press the battery int place. 3. Replace the battery cmpartment cver, making sure all the tabs are secure and there are n gaps arund the cver. Nte: When yu insert the battery, yur phne may pwer n autmatically. 4. Plug the USB cnnectr int the charger/accessry jack n the lwer middle side f yur phne. Warning! While the phne is charging, if the tuch screen des nt functin due t an unstable pwer supply unplug the USB pwer adapter frm the pwer utlet r unplug the USB cable frm the phne. Get Started 2

13 5. Plug the AC adapter int an electrical utlet. Fully charging a battery may take up t three hurs. 6. Charge yur battery. Nte: Yur phne s battery shuld have enugh charge fr the phne t turn n and find a signal, run the setup applicatin, set up vic , and make a call. Yu shuld fully charge the battery as sn as pssible. 7. Press the Pwer/Lck buttn t turn the phne n. If yur phne is activated, it will turn n, search fr Sprint service, and begin the setup applicatin. If yur phne is nt yet activated, see Activate Yur Phne fr mre infrmatin. Activate Yur Phne Depending n yur accunt r hw and where yu purchased yur phne, it may be ready t use r yu may need t activate it n yur Sprint accunt. If yu purchased yur phne at a Sprint Stre, it is prbably activated and ready t use. If yu received yur phne in the mail and it is fr a new Sprint accunt r a new line f service, it is designed t activate autmatically. When yu turn the phne n fr the first time, yu shuld see a Hands Free Activatin screen, which may be fllwed by a PRL Update screen and a Firmware Update screen. Fllw the nscreen instructins t cntinue. If yu received yur phne in the mail and yu are activating a new phne fr an existing number n yur accunt (yu re swapping phnes), yu can activate n yur cmputer nline r directly n yur phne. 14 Activate n yur cmputer: G t sprint.cm/activate and cmplete the nline instructins t activate yur phne Activate n yur phne: Turn n yur new phne. (Make sure the ld ne is turned ff.) Yur phne will autmatically attempt Hands-Free Activatin. Tap Activate t verride aut-activatin and start the manual activatin wizard. Fllw the n-screen prmpts t cmplete the activatin prcess. T cnfirm activatin, make a phne call. If yur phne is still nt activated r yu d nt have access t the Internet, cntact Sprint Custmer Service at fr assistance. Tip: D nt press the Pwer buttn while the phne is being activated. Pressing the Pwer buttn cancels the activatin prcess. Nte: If yu are having any difficulty with activatin, cntact Sprint Custmer Service by calling frm any ther phne. Cmplete the Setup Applicatin The Setup applicatin helps yu set up certain features and preferences n yur phne. Once yur phne has been turned n and activated, yu will see a Welcme message. Yu can then cmplete the Setup applicatin. Nte: Yu may be able t cmplete the setup applicatin befre yur phne has been activated n yur Sprint accunt. Nte: During r after setup, yu may see a Sprint Cnnectins Optimizer ntice. Read the ntice and tap I Agree t allw yur device t cnnect autmatically t the best available data netwrk, including Wi-Fi. T turn Sprint Cnnectins Optimizer ff at any time, press and then tap > Settings > Mre settings > Mbile netwrks > Cnnectins ptimizer and uncheck the bx. See Cnnectins Optimizer fr details. 1. Once yur phne is activated, yu will see the Welcme screen. Tap Start t get started. 2. Fllw the nscreen instructins t cmplete each sectin. Fr each tpic, yu will have an ptin t skip it and cntinue t the next screen. Gt Ggle? Cmplete the steps t sign in t yur current Ggle Accunt r create a new Ggle Accunt right frm yur phne. Tap Yes if yu already have a Ggle Accunt. Fllw the instructins t sign int yur Ggle Accunt. Tap N t create a new Ggle Accunt. Fllw the instructins t sign up fr a new Ggle Accunt. Get Started 4

15 Backup r Backup and restre Select yur Ggle Accunt backup settings. If yu're signing in with an existing Ggle Accunt, yu can elect t restre yur Ggle Accunt infrmatin, such as apps, bkmarks, Wi-Fi passwrds, and cntacts, t yur new phne. Ggle & lcatin Select yur Ggle lcatin ptins. This phne belngs t... Enter yur first and last name and tap Next. This infrmatin is used by the phne t persnalize sme apps. Ggle services Read Ggle s privacy plicy and terms f use dcuments. 3. When yu see the Setup cmplete screen, tap Finish. Yur setup is nw cmplete. Set Up Vic Yur phne autmatically transfers all unanswered calls t yur vic , even if yur phne is in use r turned ff. Yu shuld set up yur Sprint Vic and persnal greeting as sn as yur phne is activated. Always use a passwrd t prtect against unauthrized access. 1. Press Hme and tap Vic . (If yur screen is lcked, press (Pwer- /Lck buttn) t turn n the display and then drag the screen t the upper right crner.) See Turn Yur Screen On and Off. r Tuch and hld t dial yur vic number. 2. Fllw the system prmpts t: Create yur passwrd. Recrd yur name annuncement. Recrd yur greeting. Nte: Vic Passwrd Sprint strngly recmmends that yu create a passwrd when setting up yur vic t prtect against unauthrized access. Withut a passwrd, anyne wh has access t yur phne is able t access yur vic messages. Sprint Accunt Infrmatin and Help Find ut abut accunt passwrds and infrmatin abut managing yur accunt and finding help. Sprint Accunt Passwrds As a Sprint custmer, yu enjy unlimited access t yur persnal accunt infrmatin, yur vic accunt, and yur data services accunt. T ensure that n ne else has access t yur infrmatin, yu will need t create passwrds t prtect yur privacy. Get Started 5

16 Accunt User Name and Passwrd If yu are the accunt wner, yu will create an accunt user name and passwrd when yu sign n t sprint.cm. (Click Sign in/register and then click Sign up nw! t get started.) If yu are nt the accunt wner (if smene else receives the bill fr yur Sprint service), yu can get a sub-accunt passwrd at sprint.cm. Vic Passwrd Yu ll create yur vic passwrd when yu set up yur vic . See Set Up Vic fr mre infrmatin n yur vic passwrd. Sprint 411 Sprint 411 gives yu access t a variety f services and infrmatin, including residential, business, and gvernment listings; mvie listings r shw times; driving directins, restaurant reservatins, and majr lcal event infrmatin. Yu can get up t three pieces f infrmatin per call, and the peratr can autmatically cnnect yur call at n additinal charge. There is a per-call charge t use Sprint 411, and yu will be billed fr airtime. Press and tap, and then tap. Sprint Operatr Services Sprint Operatr Services prvides assistance when yu place cllect calls r when yu place calls billed t a lcal telephne calling card r third party. Press and tap, and then tap. 18 Phne Basics Yur phne is packed with features that simplify yur life and expand yur ability t stay cnnected t the peple and infrmatin that are imprtant t yu. The fllwing tpics will intrduce the basic functins and features f yur phne. Yur Phne s Layut The illustratins belw utline yur phne s basic layut. Key Functins The fllwing list defines the key features f yur phne. Frnt Indicatr Light (LED) displays a phne ntificatin, charging status, r alert. Earpiece lets yu hear the caller and autmated prmpts. Tuchscreen displays all the infrmatin needed t perate yur phne, such as the call status, the Cntacts list, and the date and time. Als prvides ne-tuch access t all f yur features and applicatins. Menu Key allws yu t access yur phne s main functins menu: Add apps and widgets, Create flder, Set wallpaper, Edit page, Search, and Settings. While in a menu, press t pen a list f actins available frm the current screen r nscreen ptin. Hme Key returns yu t the Hme screen. Press and hld t pen the recently-used applicatins windw. 19 Search Key lets yu search infrmatin n the current screen r applicatin. Fr example, while in Cntacts, press t search fr a cntact. Back Key lets yu return t the previus screen, r clse a dialg bx, ptins menu, the Ntificatins panel, r nscreen keybard. Ambient Light and Prximity Sensr detects hw clse an bject is t the surface f the screen. This is typically used t detect when yur face is pressed up against the screen, such as during a phne call. While talking n the phne, the sensr detects talk activity and lcks the keypad t prevent accidental key presses. Self-Camera Lens, fr use with the Qik applicatin, takes pictures while facing the screen, and allws yu t vide cnference. Pwer/Lck Buttn lets yu turn the phne n r ff r turn the screen n r ff, r switch yur phne t silent mde, vibratin mde, r airplane mde. Speaker lets yu hear the different ringtnes and sunds. The speaker als lets yu hear the caller s vice in speakerphne mde. Charger/Accessry Jack allws yu t cnnect the phne charger r the USB cable (included). Flash helps illuminate subjects in lw-light envirnments when the camera is fcusing and capturing a pht r vide. Vlume Buttn allws yu t adjust the ringtne r media vlume r adjust the vice vlume during a call. Camera lets yu take pictures and vides. 3.5 mm Headset Jack allws yu t plug in either a stere headset r an ptinal headset fr cnvenient, hands-free cnversatins. CAUTION! Inserting an accessry int the incrrect jack may damage the phne. Turn Yur Phne On and Off The instructins belw explain hw t turn yur phne n and ff. Turn Yur Phne On Press and hld press (Pwer/Lck buttn). Turn Yur Phne Off Press and hld press (Pwer/Lck buttn) t pen the Device ptins menu. Tap Pwer ff t turn the phne ff. Phne Basics 9

20 Restart Yur Phne Press and hld press (Pwer/Lck buttn) t pen the Device ptins menu. Tap Restart t restart the phne. Yur screen remains blank while yur phne is ff (unless the battery is charging). Turn Yur Screen On and Off Yur phne allws yu t quickly turn the screen ff when nt in use and t turn it back n and unlck it when yu need it. Turn the Screen Off When Nt in Use T quickly turn the screen ff, press (Pwer/Lck buttn). Pressing (Pwer/Lck buttn) again r receiving an incming call will turn n yur phne screen and shw the lck screen. T save battery pwer, the phne autmatically turns ff the screen after a certain perid f time when yu leave it idle. Yu will still be able t receive messages and calls while the phne s screen is ff. Turn the Screen On and Unlck It 1. Press (Pwer/Lck buttn). 2. Drag the screen in any directin t unlck the screen. If yu have set up a screen lck, yu will be prmpted t draw the pattern r enter the passwrd r PIN. See Lck Screen. Tuchscreen Navigatin Yur phne s tuchscreen lets yu cntrl actins thrugh a variety f tuch gestures. Tap When yu want t type using the nscreen keybard, select items nscreen such as applicatin and settings icns, r press nscreen buttns, simply tap them with yur finger. Phne Basics 10

21 Tuch and Hld T pen the available ptins fr an item (fr example, a cntact r link in a Web page), tuch and hld the item. Swipe r Slide T swipe r slide means t quickly drag yur finger vertically r hrizntally acrss the screen. Phne Basics 11

22 Drag T drag, press and hld yur finger with sme pressure befre yu start t mve yur finger. While dragging, d nt release yur finger until yu have reached the target psitin. Flick Flicking the screen is similar t swiping, except that yu need t swipe yur finger in light, quick strkes. This finger gesture is always in a vertical directin, such as when flicking the cntacts r Phne Basics 12

23 message list. Rtate Fr mst screens, yu can autmatically change the screen rientatin frm prtrait t landscape by turning the phne sideways. When entering text, yu can turn the phne sideways t bring up a bigger keybard. See Aut-Rtate Screen fr mre details. Nte: The Aut-rtate check bx needs t be selected fr the screen rientatin t autmatically change. T make this selectin, press > > Settings and tap Display > Aut-rtate screen. 24 Yur Hme Screen The hme screen is the starting pint fr yur phne s applicatins, functins, and menus. Yu can custmize yur Hme screen by adding applicatin icns, shrtcuts, flders, widgets, and mre. 25 Custmize the Hme Screen Learn hw t add, mve, r remve items frm the Hme screen. Applicatin Shrtcuts and Widgets Applicatin shrtcuts may be placed n any Hme screen. Yu can rganize them int flders, repsitin them, and remve them frm the Hme screen. Widgets are self-cntained applicatins that reside either in yur Widgets tab r n a Hme screens. Unlike a shrtcut, the Widget appears as an nscreen applicatin. Widgets can include Cntacts shrtcuts, bkmarks, Facebk status windws, Gmail and accunts, and mre. Adding Applicatin Shrtcuts and Widgets frm the Hme screen 1. Press t display the main Hme screen. 2. Navigate t the Hme screen where yu want t place the applicatin shrtcut r widget. 3. Assigning the Samsung Keybard This phne has a built-in, QWERTY keybard which yu can use t type letters, numbers, punctuatin, and ther characters. T use the Samsung keybard yu must first cnfigure the settings t default t the Samsung keybard. 1. Character preview prvides an autmatic preview f the current character selectin within the text string. This is helpful when multiple characters are available within ne key. Receive Phne Calls When yu receive a phne call frm a cntact, the Incming call screen appears and displays the caller ID icn, name, and phne number f the calling party. Phne Call Optins Yur phne applicatin prvides many useful features and ptins t help yu make the mst f yur calling experience. Dialing Optins When yu enter numbers n the keypad, yu will see three nscreen ptins. Press the menu key during a call t display a list f additinal in-call features. Press and tap an ptin t select it. Send message t cmpse a message t this number. Add t Cntacts t add the entered number int yur Cntacts list. See Add a Cntact fr mre infrmatin. Speed dial setting displays the cntacts assigned t numbers 1 thrugh 9. The number 1 is reserved fr Vic . Add 2-sec pause will manually call a number with pause(s) withut string it in yur Cntacts list. Add wait will pause the calling sequence until yu enter a number r press a key. Call settings t access mre ptins. Caller ID Caller ID identifies a caller befre yu answer the phne by displaying the number f the incming call. If yu d nt want yur number displayed when yu make a call, fllw these steps. 1. Press and tap. 2. Tap t display the nscreen dialer. 3. Tap. 4. Enter a phne number then tap. 48 Call Waiting When yu re n a call, Call Waiting alerts yu t incming calls by sunding tw beeps. Yur phne s screen infrms yu that anther call is cming in and displays the caller s phne number (if it is available and yu are in digital mde). Respnd t an Incming Call While n a Call Tuch and slide t the right. (This puts the first caller n hld and answers the secnd call.) Switch Back t the First Caller Tap Swap. 3-way Calling With 3-Way Calling, yu can talk t tw peple at the same time. When using this feature, the nrmal airtime rates will be charged fr each f the tw calls. 1. On the Phne screen, enter a number and tap. 2. Once yu have established the cnnectin, tap Add call and dial the secnd number. (This puts the first caller n hld and dials the secnd number.) 3. When yu re cnnected t the secnd party, tap Merge. If ne f the peple yu called hangs up during yur call, yu and the remaining caller stay cnnected. If yu initiated the call and are the first t hang up, all callers are discnnected. 4. T end the three-way call, tap. Call Frwarding Call Frwarding lets yu frward all yur incming calls t anther phne number even when yur phne is turned ff. Yu can cntinue t make calls frm yur phne when yu have activated Call Frwarding. Nte: Yu are charged a higher rate fr calls yu have frwarded. Activate Call Frwarding 1. Press and tap. 2. Tap. 3. Keypad/Hide: Tggle the appearance f the nscreen keypad. Fr example: When yu call yur bank s 800 number, use yur keypad t enter yur accunt number and PIN. End call: End the current call. Speaker: Rute the phne s audi thrugh the speaker (On) r thrugh the earpiece (Off). Activate Speaker t rute the phne s audi thrugh the speaker. (Yu can adjust the speaker vlume using the vlume buttns.) Deactivate Speaker t use the phne s earpiece. Warning: Because f higher vlume levels, d nt place the phne near yur ear during speakerphne use. Mute: Mute the micrphne during an active call. Tap again t unmute the micrphne. Nte: If Mute is activated, the speaker mde is deactivated. Headset: Rute the phne s audi thrugh a cnnected Bluetth headset (On) r thrugh the speaker (Off). Nte: The Headset buttn is activated t shw the current call is ruted t the cnnected Bluetth headset. T rute the current call back t the phne, tap Headset t temprarily use the phne. Tap it again t rute the call back t the cnnected Bluetth headset. When Bluetth r the Bluetth headset is turned ff, the call is ruted thrugh either the earpiece r speaker. T use a speed dial, enter the speed dial number using the phne keypad, hlding dwn n the last digit. The cntact s default phne number assigned t the speed dial will be dialed. Assign a Speed Number t a Cntact 1. Press and tap. Enter a phne number. 2. Press and tap Speed dial setting. 3. Select a speed dial number t use fr the phne number. 4. The Select cntact menu displays. Tap any cntact. 5. The cntact s default phne number will be assigned t speed dial number. 55 Cntacts The Cntacts applicatin lets yu stre and manage cntacts frm a variety f surces, including cntacts yu enter and save directly in yur phne as well as cntacts synchrnized with yur Ggle Accunt, yur PC, cmpatible prgrams (including Exchange Server), and yur Facebk friends. Get Started with Cntacts Befre using Cntacts, it s best t learn a few basics. Yur phne autmatically srts the Cntacts entries alphabetically. Yu can create either a Ggle r Crprate cntact. Phne cntacts are stred lcally n the phne. Nte: If the phne is ever reset t its factry default parameters, lcally stred cntacts can be lst. Ggle cntacts are shared with yur existing Ggle Accunt and can als be imprted t yur phne after yu have created a Ggle Mail accunt. Micrsft Exchange ActiveSync (als knwn as Wrk r Outlk) cntacts are thse cntacts that are intended t be shared with either an Exchange Server r frm within Micrsft Outlk. See the fllwing tpics fr mre infrmatin abut cntacts. Access Cntacts There are a few ways t display Cntacts. Press and tap > Cntacts. r Press and tap Cntacts. The Cntacts List Yur phne autmatically srts the Cntacts entries alphabetically. Yu can create either a Ggle, Micrsft Exchange ActiveSync, r Phne cntact. Press and tap Cntacts. Yu will see the Cntacts list. Cntacts List: The Cntacts list displays all cntacts currently stred in yur phne, including Ggle cntacts, Exchange ActiveSync cntacts, Phne cntacts, and Facebk cntacts. Send message: Send a text message t the selected cntact. Cntacts t display: Select a specific lcatin frm which t pull cntacts which will display in yur Cntacts list. Enter details such as name, phne numbers, addresses, mailing addresses, and mre. 1. Press and tap. 2. Frm the tp f the screen, tap. The Create cntact screen pens. 3. Fr example, if yur mther is yur primary emergency cntact, list her as ICE Mm in yur Cntacts. Add anther field: tap this buttn t add anther field such as Phnetic name, Organizatin, , IM, Address, Ntes, Nickname, Website, Internet call, Events, and Relatinship. 9. Tap Save t save the new cntact. Save a Phne Number Yu can save a phne number t Cntacts directly frm the phne keypad. 1. Press and tap. 2. Enter a phne number using the nscreen keypad. Cntacts 47

Assign a Picture t a Cntact Adding a picture t a cntact entry creates a mre persnal and easily recgnized entry. Tap and assign a picture t the new entry by chsing ne f three ptins: Remve: Remve any previusly assigned image n an existing cntact (this ptin des nt display with a new entry). Image: Retrieve a previusly stred image frm yur Gallery r frm yur My files flder and assign it t this entry. After selecting a picture, yu will be prmpted t Crp it t fit the cntact picture ID area. Crp the picture and then tap Dne t assign it. Take picture: Use the camera t take a new picture and assign it t this entry. 59 Jin a Cntact When yu have cntacts frm varius surces (Gmail, Phne, Facebk, etc.), yu may have multiple similar entries fr a single cntact. Yur phne s Cntacts applicatin lets yu link multiple entries int a single cntact. 1. Press and tap. 2. Tap a cntact t display it, then press and tap Jin cntact. 3. Tap anther entry t link it t the riginal cntact. Delete a Cntact Yu can delete a cntact frm the cntacts details page. 1. Press and tap. 2. Tap a cntact t display it, then press and tap Delete. Tip: Yu can als tuch and hld the cntact and then tap Delete. 3. Tap OK. Synchrnize Cntacts Syncing data frm yur managed accunts allws yu t add and manage a new r existing cntact frm yur nline r remte accunts t yur phne. Prir t syncing, yu must first have an active Ggle r Micrsft Exchange ActiveSync accunt with current Cntact entries. With syncing, any Cntacts entries (with phne numbers, addresses, pictures, etc.) are updated and synced with yur Epic 4G Tuch. Nte: Cntact synchrnizatin requires that yu are lgged int yur accunt via the phne. T synchrnize yur Cntacts: 1. Press > and then tap Settings. 2. Under the Accunts heading, tap the accunt yu wish t sync, and fllw the nscreen prmpts. Nte: Different accunts have different prcedures t sync infrmatin t yur phne. Nt all apps supprt syncing t the different types f data n yur phne (cntacts, calendar, etc.). Nte: Any change n either side (Phne, Ggle, r Micrsft Exchange ActiveSync Cntacts), is reflected n the ther side after a sync prcess. The prcess f updating yur Cntacts tab can take several minutes. If after minutes, yur list has nt been updated, repeat steps 2-3. Cntacts 49

60 Yur Cntacts tab then reflects any updated Cntact infrmatin. This update prcess wrks bth ways. Fr example, any changes n the phne are updated t yur Gmail Cntacts list after sync. Add Entries t Yur Favrites The Favrites tab is a listing that can help yu quickly access yur mst used r preferred Cntacts entries. 1. Press and tap. 2. Tuch and hld the entry name frm the Cntacts tab listing. 3. Frm the Cntacts Entry cntext menu, tap Add t Favrites. Nte: Anther methd t add r remve an entry frm yur favrites is t tggle the state f the star icn n the Cntact s details page (upper-right). Tap t add the entry t yur favrites (star is lit), tap again t remve. Create Grups This feature allws yu t add a new r existing cntact t a call grup. This grup can be ne f the already present grups (Family, Friends, r Wrk) r a user-created grup. Create a New Grup 1. Press and tap > Grups. 2. Press and tap Create. 3. Tap the Grup name field and enter a name fr the new grup. 4. Tap Grup ringtne and select a ringtne fr the grup. 5. Tap Vibratin pattern and select a vibratin pattern fr the grup. 6. Tap Add member and select a member r members t add t the new Grup list. 7. Tap Dne when yu are finished adding members, and then tap Save. Add an Existing Cntact t a Current Grup 1. Press and tap > Grups. 2. Tap the existing grup, then tap. 3. Frm the list f cntacts, tap the cntact(s) yu want t add. (A green check mark appears next t the selected entries.) YuTube YuTube is a vide sharing website n which users can uplad and share vides. YuTube is a data-intensive feature. Sprint recmmends that yu upgrade t an unlimited data plan t avid additinal data charges. 1. Press, then tap > YuTube. 2. Tap Search t search fr specific vides. 3. See yur service plan fr applicable charges fr messaging. Cmpse Text Messages Quickly cmpse and sent text messages n yur phne. 1. Press and tap >. 2. Tap the Enter recipient field and enter a Cntacts name, a mbile phne number, r an address using the nscreen keybard. If applicable, tap a matching entry frm the nscreen drp-dwn list. This list is ppulated by matches fund frm yur managed accunts. 3. Tap the Enter message field and enter yur message. 4. Review yur message and tap. Send a Multimedia Message (MMS) When yu need t add a little mre t a text message, yu can send a multimedia message (MMS) with pictures, vice recrdings, audi r vide files, cntact cards (vcard), r appintments (vcalendar). Cmpsing MMS messages is exactly the same as cmpsing text messages, except that yu attach a picture, a vide, r an audi file t the message. 1. Press and tap >. 2. On the Messaging screen, tap the text message r message thread t pen and read it. r If yu have a new message ntificatin, press and hld the status bar, and then slide the status bar dwn t pen the Ntificatins panel. Text Message (SMS) Settings Aut cmbinatin: re-assembles multi-segment messages s they can be shwn as a single message. Uninstall an App Yu can uninstall any app that yu have dwnladed and installed frm Ggle Play. 1. Press, tap, then tap > Uninstall. 2. Tap the app yu want t uninstall. 3. When prmpted, tap OK t remve the app frm yur phne. 4. Once the app is remved, tap OK again t return t the Applicatin manager. Turn Wi-Fi On and Cnnect t a Wireless Netwrk By default, yur phne s Wi-Fi feature is turned ff. Turning Wi-Fi n makes yur phne able t discver and cnnect t cmpatible in-range Wi-Fi netwrks (r WAPs - wireless access pints). Turn Wi-Fi On Press > and tap Settings > Wi-Fi. Prepare Yur Phne fr VPN Cnnectin Depending n the type f VPN yu are using at wrk, yu may be required t enter yur lgin credentials r install security certificates befre yu can cnnect t yur cmpany s lcal netwrk. Yu can get this infrmatin frm yur netwrk administratr. Befre yu can initiate a VPN cnnectin, yur phne must first establish a Wi-Fi r data cnnectin. Fr infrmatin abut setting up and using these cnnectins n yur phne, see Launch a Web Cnnectin and Turn Wi-Fi On and Cnnect t a Wireless Netwrk. Nte: Yu need t set a screen unlck pattern, PIN, r passwrd befre yu can create a VPN cnnectin. Set Up Secure Credential Strage If yur netwrk administratr instructs yu t dwnlad and install security certificates, yu must first set up the phne s secure credential strage. 1. If yur lck screen des nt currently use Pattern, PIN, r Passwrd security, yu must first enable security t use credential strage. Press > and tap Settings > Lck screen. Add a VPN Cnnectin The fllwing prcedures utline the methd t use when adding a VPN cnnectin. 1. Press > and tap Settings > Mre settings > VPN. 2. Alarm: This feature allws yu t set an alarm t ring at a specific time. Wrld Clck: allws yu t view the time f day r night in ther parts f the wrld. Wrld Clck displays time in hundreds f different cities, within all 24 time znes arund the wrld. Stpwatch: Yu can use this ptin t measure intervals f time. Timer: Yu can use this ptin t set a cuntdwn timer. Use a timer t cunt dwn t an event based n a preset time length (hurs, minutes, and secnds). Desk clck: Yu can use this ptin t set a desktp clck, cmplete with time, calendar, and weather. 2. Tap (Create alarm) t create an alarm. 3. T edit an alarm, tap the entry and then tap the adjust the alarm time: Adjust the hur and minute. Tap the AM r PM buttn t change the value. Tap Save when finished. Bluetth Bluetth is a shrt-range cmmunicatins technlgy that allws yu t cnnect wirelessly t a number f Bluetth phnes, such as headsets and hands-free car kits, and Bluetth-enabled handhelds, cmputers, printers, and wireless phnes. The Bluetth cmmunicatin range is usually apprximately 30 feet. Turn Bluetth On r Off Use the Settings menu t enable r disable yur device s Bluetth capabilities. Press > and tap Settings. Slide the Bluetth On/Off slider t the right t turn Bluetth n. Nte: Turn ff Bluetth when nt in use t cnserve battery pwer, r in places where using a wireless phne is prhibited, such as abard an aircraft and in hspitals. The Bluetth Settings Menu The Bluetth settings menu gives yu access t infrmatin and cntrls fr yur phne s Bluetth feature. 1. Press > and tap Settings > Bluetth. 2. Tap and select Rename device, Visibility timeut, r Received files. Change the Phne Name The phne name identifies yur phne t ther phnes. 1. Press > and tap Settings > Bluetth. 2. It s the same prcedure t set up stere audi and handsfree phnes. T listen t music with yur headset r car kit, the headset r car kit must supprt the A2DP Bluetth prfile. 1. Press > and tap Settings > Bluetth. 2. If Bluetth is nt switched n, slide the Bluetth On/Off slider t the right t turn Bluetth n. 3. Make sure that the headset is discverable, s that yur phne can find the headset. Refer t the instructins that came with the headset t find ut hw t set it t discverable mde. 4. Tap Scan. fr phnes. Yur phne will start t scan fr Bluetth phnes within range. 5. When yu see the name f yur headset displayed in the Bluetth devices sectin, tap the name. Yur phne then autmatically tries t pair with the headset. 6. If autmatic pairing fails, enter the passcde supplied with yur headset. The pairing and cnnectin status is displayed belw the hands-free headset r car kit name in the Bluetth phnes sectin. When the Bluetth headset r car kit is cnnected t yur phne, (Bluetth cnnected) displays in the status bar. Depending n the type f headset r car kit yu have cnnected, yu can then start using the headset r car kit t listen t music r make and receive phne calls. Nte: Due t different specificatins and features f ther Bluetth-cmpatible phnes, display and peratins may be different, and functins such as transfer r exchange may nt be pssible with all Bluetth-cmpatible phnes. Recnnect a Headset r Car Kit When yu have paired a headset with yur phne, yu shuld be able t recnnect it autmatically by turning n Bluetth n yur phne and then turning n the headset. Hwever, smetimes yu will need t recnnect manually, fr example if yu have been using yur headset with anther Bluetth phne. 1. Press > and tap Settings > Bluetth. 2. If Bluetth is nt switched n, slide the Bluetth On/Off slider t the right t turn Bluetth n. 3. Make sure that the headset is discverable. Tls and Calendar 125

Send and Receive Infrmatin Using Bluetth Yu can use Bluetth t transfer infrmatin between yur phne and anther Bluetth-enabled phne such as a phne r ntebk cmputer. The first time yu transfer infrmatin between yur phne and anther phne, yu need t enter r cnfirm a security passcde. After that, yur phne and the ther phne are paired, and yu will nt need t exchange passcdes t transfer infrmatin in the future. Send Infrmatin frm Yur Phne t Anther Phne Yu can send the fllwing types f infrmatin, depending upn the phne t which yu are sending them. On the phne, pen the applicatin that cntains the infrmatin r file yu want t send. Fr example, if yu want t send a pht, press and tap > Gallery. 3. Fllw the steps fr the type f item yu want t send: Pht r vide (in Camera). After capturing a pht, n the preview screen, tap > Bluetth. Phts and vides (in Gallery). On the Albums tab, tap an album, tap an item, and then tap > Bluetth. Calendar event: In the Calendar s Day view, Agenda view, r Week view, tap the event and then tap > Share via > Bluetth. Music track: This feature is available thrugh the Music Player. With the track displayed n the Nw playing screen, tap > Share via > Bluetth. Vice recrding: On the main Vice Recrder screen, tuch and hld a recrding and then tap Share via > Bluetth. 4. If yu are prmpted t turn n Bluetth, tap Yes. 5. Tap the name f the receiving phne. 6. If prmpted, accept the cnnectin n the receiving phne, and enter the same passcde n bth yur phne and the ther phne, r cnfirm the aut-generated passcde. 7. On the receiving device, accept the file. The lcatin where the infrmatin is saved depends n the type f infrmatin and the receiving phne. If yu send a calendar event r cntact, it is nrmally added directly t the crrespnding applicatin n the receiving device. Fr example, if yu send a calendar event t a cmpatible phne, the event is shwn in that phne s calendar applicatin. If yu send anther file type t a Windws cmputer, it is nrmally saved in the Bluetth Exchange flder within yur persnal dcument flders. On Windws XP, the path may be: C:\Dcuments and Settings\[yur username]\ My Dcuments\Bluetth Exchange. On Windws Vista, the path may be: C:\Users\[yur username]\dcuments. If yu send a file t anther phne, the saved lcatin may depend n the file type. Fr example, if yu send an image file t anther wireless phne, it may be saved in a flder named Images. 138 Receive Infrmatin Frm Anther Phne Yur phne is capable f receiving a wide variety f file types with Bluetth, including phts, music tracks, and dcuments such as PDFs. 1. Press > and tap Settings > Bluetth. 2. If Bluetth is nt switched n, slide the Bluetth On/Off slider t the right t turn Bluetth n. 3. Tap the check bx next t yur phne's Bluetth name t make it discverable. 4. On the sending device, send ne r mre files t yur phne. Refer t the device s dcumentatin fr instructins n sending infrmatin ver Bluetth. 5. If prmpted, enter the same passcde n bth yur phne and the ther device, r cnfirm the aut-generated passcde. A Bluetth authrizatin request is displayed n yur phne. 6. If yu want t autmatically receive files frm the sending device in future, select the Always allw this device check bx. 7. When a file is transferred, a ntificatin is displayed. Tap Accept. T pen the file immediately, slide dwn the ntificatins panel, and then tap the relevant ntificatin. When yu pen a received file, what happens next depends n the file type: Media files and dcuments are usually pened directly in a cmpatible applicatin. Fr example, if yu pen a music track, it starts playing in the Music applicatin. Fr a vcalendar file, select the calendar where yu want t save the event, and then tap Imprt. The vcalendar is added t yur Calendar events. (Fr mre infrmatin n using the Calendar, see Calendar.) Fr a vcard cntact file, if there are multiple vcard files n yur strage card, yu can chse t imprt ne, several, r all f thse cntacts t yur cntacts list. Calculatr Yur phne cmes with a built-in calculatr. Nte:In prtrait mde, the phne displays a standard calculatr. When in landscape mde, a scientific calculatr is displayed. 1. 139 Calendar Use Calendar t create and manage events, meetings, and appintments. Yur Calendar helps rganize yur time and reminds yu f imprtant events. Depending n yur synchrnizatin settings, yur phne s Calendar stays in sync with yur Calendar n the Web, Exchange ActiveSync calendar, and Outlk calendar. Add an Event t the Calendar Yur Calendar helps yu rganize yur time and reminds yu f imprtant events. 1. Press and tap > Calendar. Nte: T synchrnize calendar events amng yur Ggle and Crprate accunts, make sure they are being managed by yur phne. See Accunts and Messaging fr mre infrmatin. The default view fr the Calendar is the Mnth view. T change the view, tap the available tabs alng the tp (in prtrait view) r the left (in landscape view) f the Calendar screen. Chse frm Year, Mnth, Week, Day, List, and Task. 2. Duble-tap a day t which yu wuld like t add an event t reveal the Create event screen. 3. Assign the new calendar event t an accunt by tapping the Calendar field and then selecting an accunt. Fr this example, we are chsing a Crprate accunt. My calendars are calendar entries that are stred lcally n the phne and nt part f an accunt. Ggle/Gmail are calendar entries that are synchrnized between yur phne and yur nline Ggle Accunt. Crprate are calendar entries that are synchrnized between yur phne and either an Exchange Server r available frm within Micrsft Outlk. Nte: Sme f the previus ptins appear when cmpatible accunts (such as Outlk) have been created and synced. 4. Tap the Tap t enter title field and enter a title fr the event. 5. Tap Edit event details t enter the fllwing: Select a Frm/T time fr the event by tapping the crrespnding fields, and adjusting the mnth, day, and year. Tap Set when finished. Select a time fr the event by tapping the time field and then adjusting the hur and minute. Tap Set when finished. Tap the All day field t assign this as an all-day event. In Mnth view, tap the date where the calendar event ccurs, and tap the calendar event. 3. Press and tap Delete. 4. In the Delete cnfirmatin bx, tap OK. r If the calendar event is recurring, select Only this event r All events, and tap OK. Insert a micrsd Card Remve the battery cver t insert a cmpatible micrsd card int yur phne. 1. Remve the battery cver. Grasp the phne firmly and lcate the slt at the tp f the phne. Place yur fingernail in the pening and firmly pp the cver ff the phne (similar t a sda can). 2. Orient the card with the gld strips facing dwn. 3. Firmly press the card int the slt and make sure that it catches with the push-click insertin. Remve the micrsd Card Remve the battery cver t remve a micrsd card frm yur phne. 1.
