3 3 Introduction Theinitiativebeganin2001whentheLocalEarlyEducationPlanningCouncil(LPC) createdacommitteeforinclusion.in2002,capassedabillforone timefundsto increasethecapacityofchildcareproviderstoservechildrenwithdisabilities.in2003,a planwasdevelopedforhowtoaccomplishinclusioninchild careprogramsthroughthe auspicesoffirst5,westedandthelpc.in ,First5supportedtheLPCto begininclusioncollaborativeplanning.thelpccreatedarequestforproposalto supportcollaborativeleadershipfortheinitiativeandajointawardwasgiventowest EdandtheSCCOE.In ,theinclusioncollaborativeinitiatedaconsultationand assessmentworkgroup.in KidConnectionswasbornand700educatorsand parentsweretrainedwithmatchedfundingfromcharmainewarmenhoven,first5 SantaClaraCountyandSCCOE.Fundingwasguaranteedfor3years.Lastyearthework continuedwiththedevelopmentofresourcematerialstosupportthetrainingevents. TheSpecialHopeFoundationgrantprovidedstartupmoniesforanon sitecoaching modelthroughthewarmline. TheSCCOEisapartneringagencywiththeSiliconValleyEducationFoundation,a501c3 organization.thenonprofitstatusallowsthecollaborativetoapplyforamultitudeof grantopportunitiesthatsupportthegrowthanddevelopmentoftheeffort.the InclusionCollaborativeprovidesadvocacy,consultationandcommunityawarenessfor inclusion.awarmlineconnectionofferstelephoneserviceande packetsabout inclusionandcoachestoassistlocalimplementationofthevariousinclusivemodels.the collaborativehasanongoingtrainingprogramoninclusionthatisrecommendedfor everydistrictstafforotherprogramsconsideringinclusiveopportunities.thefulltime staffconsistsofaninclusionprogrammanagerandacoordinatorofinclusiontraining. Parttimestaffinclude:clericalstaff,InclusionWarmLinespecialists,inclusioncoachand inclusionspecialist.inadditiontothetrainingevents,thecollaborativehascreatedan interactivewebsitewhereover8,000peoplehavevisitedannually.thisyearthe averagehits per monthwasaround1,000.abilitysupportkits(ask)areavailablefor checkoutandkitsforinclusionteamsuccess(kits)areavailableonline.inadditionto theinclusiontrainingandresourcesupport,thecollaborativesponsorsascreeningand assessmentcoordinationincludingkidconnections,afirstfivecollaborativeof professionalsandcommunityagencies. OneofthemanyhighlightsoftheInclusionCollaborativeistheavailabilityofawebsite providinginformationaboutcollaboratingagencies,resources,upcomingmeetingand trainingevents,andacomprehensivelistofannotatedlinksfocusedonvariousaspects ofinclusivepractice.mostrecentlythewebsiteobtainedadirecturltoincreasethe easeatwhichthewebsitecanbeaccessed. Developing and implementing an action plan for success TheInclusionCollaborativememberscreateastrategicplanannuallyduringaJune retreat.theprofessionaldevelopmentisorganizedfortheyearandtrainersand materialsareselected.duringthefall,aprofessionaldevelopmentseriesonleadership oninclusionisconductedtotraincoachestosupportonsiteinclusionopportunitiesin thedistrictsandearlycareeducationprograms.teamsparticipateinthespring InclusionSymposium.Teamsincludingadministrators,parentsandteachersparticipate insixtrainingsessionsandadditionalsupportisprovidedtocontinuetheeffortduring thenextschoolyear.trainingismadeavailableduringeveningsandweekendsto increaseparticipation.thegrantprogramallowforstipendsof$300perparticipantbe offeredwhenthetrainingiscompletedoutsideofthestaff sregularworkday. Fiscal support Thecollaborativeisa501c3organizationwithmultiplefundingsources.Thewebsite liststhevarioussponsoringagenciesandgrantsupports. Budget Approximately$450,000annuallyfromavarietyoffundingstreams. Professional development Asreflectedintheir annualreport,thecollaborativehastrained2,400 people.alltrainings,whichareafulldayormore,haveeitheracademicunitsor continuingeducationunitsavailable.trainingsprovideprofessionaldevelopmenthours tosupportcaresparticipants.inadditiontobuildingontheirtraininginitiatives,the websitecontainsresourcesandlinksonhowtodesignlreoptions.theprojecthas createdkitsandisintheprocessofdevelopingadaptationbinsforchildren(abc)to assistteachersinmakingadaptationsintheirclassroomstosupporttheneedsoftheir children.thejuniorleagueofsanjosehasawardedfundingforthisproject. Public awareness TheSCCollaborativeincorporatescreativemarketingstrategiestopromotetheworkof thecollaborative.staffhaveusedavarietyofmethodssuchasabrochure,website, logo,theme,philosophy,cdwithtrainingmaterials,makeandtakeactivities,among otherideastoshareinformationabouttheircollaborative.thecommunication departmentatthecoehelpeddesignabrochurethatwouldencouragecommunity membersandorganizationstoreadabouttheinitiative.networkingoccursthroughout thevariouscommunityteamstheprojectmanagerisinvolvedinsuchasspecial EducationLocalPlanningAgencies(SELPA),theChildCareCoordinatingCouncils(4cs), CARESandtheLPC.TrainingshavebeenprovidedtotheSanJoseCommunityParksand RecreationDepartment.JaniceiscurrentlyworkingwiththeCityofSanJosePublic Librarytowriteagranttosupportadaptingbooksandsupportingthelibrariansto provideinclusivestorytimes.thecollaborativereceivedthecityofsanjose s2008 GeorgeR.HowardMemorialAwardforexceptionalcontributionstotheneedsof childrenandtheirfamilies.janicepresentedtheinclusioncollaborativemodelatthe SEECAPConferenceandSpecialEventsinthewinterof2009toover200ECSEleaders. Evaluation and continuous improvement Theannualreportdocumentsnumbersofchildrenandfamiliesservedandstafftrained. ItprovidesinformationonnewinitiativessuchastheWarmLineinclusionsupportand coachingserviceandotherclassroomsupportmaterials.thewebsiteiskeptuptodate withthenewestlinksandmaterialsavailableoninclusion.theprogramusesaformative evaluationprocessduringtheyeartoevaluatetheeffectivenessofthetrainingand supportprovided.thisyearasurveywillbeusedonsurveymonkeytoassesstheimpact ofthetrainingfrompasttrainingevents.additionally,theinclusioncollaborativeis consideringthedesiredresultsdevelopmentalprofile(drdp)informationatsitesto measurechildchangeafteraninclusionprogramhasbeeninitiated.theprogramstaff alsoconductbothstaffandparentsatisfactionsurveys.theprogramusesa Inclusion Models Howdoesyourprogrammeasureup surveytoassistlocaldistrictteamsin evaluatingtheirprogresstowardsinclusionbyratingthebenefits,barriers,resources available,andresourcesneededforsuccessfulmodelimplementation.
