The 2007 R2 release of Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile for Windows Mobile can be installed on any Windows Mobile-powered device (Smartphone or Pocket PC) that is running either Windows Mobile 6.0 or Windows Mobile 6.x. Is my device operating system upgradeable to Windows Mobile 5.0 or Windows Mobile 6.0? Windows Mobile powered devices are sold and supported by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) or mobile operators. Please consult with them. Can I use Microsoft ActiveSync 3.8 or ActiveSync 4.1 technology to install Office Communicator Mobile for Windows Mobile on my device? No. Microsoft ActiveSync 4.2, ActiveSync 4.5 or Windows Mobile Device Center 6 technology is required. If you use an earlier version of ActiveSync, you will receive an error message indicating that Application Manager cannot install Communicator Mobile because of an invalid setup file. You can download ActiveSync 4.2 from You can download ActiveSync 4.5 from You can download Windows Mobile Device Center 6 from Can I install Office Communicator Mobile for Windows Mobile on my device s storage card? No. Installing Communicator Mobile on a storage card is not supported because a device does not necessarily immediately detect a storage card when the device starts. As a result, Communicator Mobile s auto-start feature cannot function as intended. What are the requirements for installing and running Office Communicator Mobile for Windows Mobile? Windows Mobile-powered device that is running either Windows Mobile 6.0 or Windows Mobile 6.x. 15 Mb or greater of ROM (read-only memory) and 96 MB or greater of RAM (randomaccess memory) on your mobile device. Communicator Mobile requires a Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 deployment. Communicator Mobile will not work with a previous release of Office Communications Server.

By default, when you first sign in to Communicator Mobile, it attempts to detect the number of your mobile device and set up Communicator Mobile to simultaneously ring your mobile device for incoming calls to your work number. To change or verify the Simultaneously Ring settings or change settings for incoming or outgoing work calls, you configure Calls options. To configure Calls options 1. Start Communicator Mobile, click Menu>Options>Calls. 2. To set options for Incoming Calls to Work in order to ring your mobile device: Under Incoming Calls to Work, select Simultaneously Ring, and then select New to enter your mobile device number if it is not available. If it is available, select it. To specify the Mobile Phone Number to ring when making Calls via Work, under Mobile Phone Number, enter the number of your mobile device. Is public IM connectivity supported with Office Communicator Mobile for Windows Mobile? Yes, public instant messaging (IM) connectivity and federated contacts can be added by using Communicator Mobile if the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 network that you use has been configured for public IM connectivity and federation. Is Office Communicator 2007 R2 required for Office Communicator Mobile for Windows Mobile users? No, but we strongly recommend that you use Office Communicator 2007 R2 with Office Communicator Mobile for Windows Mobile. Office Communicator 2007 R2 is useful for certain features, such as creating and managing groups, and gathering and providing your Microsoft Exchange Server calendar information. Is the Contact List the same between Office Communicator 2007 R2 and Office Communicator Mobile for Windows Mobile? The Contact Lists are synchronized, with the exception of the Recent Contacts group. For example, if you add a contact in the Communicator Mobile Contact List, the contact also appears in the Communicator Contact List, and vice versa. Contacts in the Recent Contacts group in Communicator Mobile are based on those contacts that you have most recently communicated with using Communicator Mobile.

To optimize performance, Office Communicator Mobile for Windows Mobile updates presence status for contacts in the Contact List every five minutes. Office Communicator, by contract, continuously updates presence status for contacts in the Contact List. As a result, you may see a mismatch between presence statuses for a contact in the two Contact Lists. To view the most upto-date presence status for a contact in your Communicator Mobile Contact List, click the contact to open the Contact Card. When you open the Contact Card, the contact s presence information is updated.
