In an effort to reduce costs for most students, particularly those in Spanish 158 and 251, the text has been made available in loose leaf form in three sections: Chapters 1-5, 6-10 and Text for MLL 154: Boo 1 (Chapter 1-5) + 1-SEM MSL (One semester.com) (13-digit equivalent is ) Text for MLL 158: Boo 2 (Chap 6-10) + 1-SEM MSL (13-digit equivalent is ) Text for MLL 251: Boo 3 (Chap 11-15) + 1-SEM MSL (13-digit equivalent is ) Recommended Resources Spanish-Spanish Dictionary and Spanish-English Dictionary Spanish Table: FALL 2015: TBA at Gorilla Crossing COURSE DESCRIPTION A continuation of the study of the basics of the Spanish language through activities designed to develop reading, writing, and speaing proficiency, with particular emphasis on speaing. Additional activities are intended to develop an appreciation of Hispanic culture and an awareness of the geography of the Hispanic world. PURPOSE OF COURSE The PRINCIPAL GOALS IN THIS COURSE are to help you build as large a comprehension vocabulary as possible; 2) express yourself orally on an elementary level; 3) develop your reading and writing sills as much as possible; 4) acquire a greater appreciation for Hispanic culture; and 5) develop an awareness of the geography of the Hispanic world. ANTICIPATED STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES By the end of this course students should have developed the ability to recognize (through listening and reading activities) and, to a lesser degree, produce (in speaing and writing activities) sentence-length, and in some instances, paragraph-length information in Spanish. The degree to which this will occur will vary from student to student and will primarily be the result of an individual s dedication, application, hard wor and desire. Furthermore, students should have developed a greater appreciation of the cultural richness and diversity of the Hispanic world as well as an awareness of basic geographic characteristics of the Hispanic countries. These outcomes are met through a variety of means, including 1) reading, analysis, and discussion of cultural information about the countries and regions where the target language is spoen.

2 2) discussion of authentic materials that show the diversity of the people who spea the language. Such authentic materials include audio tapes, video tapes, pictures, music, and internet resources among others. 3) the practice of situations that show the sociolinguistic appropriateness of language use in different communicative instances.
