2 The 9th International Conference on Ovarian Cancer December 2 3, 2011 The University of Texas Cancer Center 8th Floor Conference Center, Cancer Prevention Building 1155 Pressler, Houston, Texas Abstract Submission Deadline: September 1, 2011 Abstract Submission Address: ovarianconf@mdanderson.org Goal The goal of this conference is to bring together oncologists, gynecologists, general practitioners, and allied health providers to present and discuss the most current information on the treatment of ovarian cancer. Participants from all over the world will be able to exchange professional information and network with others in the field. The conference will include new methods for detecting and diagnosing ovarian cancer, recent advances in basic and translational research, and discussions of contemporary and innovative treatments for ovarian cancer. Target Audience This program should be of interest to gynecologic oncologists, medical oncologists, OB-Gyns, genetic counselors, scientists/ researchers, nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. Educational Methods Lectures, Panel Discussions, Question-and-Answer Sessions, Case Studies, Poster Session Educational Objectives At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants should be able to practice appropriate screening for ovarian cancer (knowledge, competence, performance, patient outcomes); incorporate contemporary and innovative treatments for ovarian cancer (knowledge, competence, performance, patient outcomes); interpret basic and translational research for ovarian cancer (knowledge, competence, performance, patient outcomes). Evaluation A course evaluation form will provide participants with the opportunity to comment on the value of the program content related to their practice decisions, performance improvement activities, or possible impact on patient health status. Participants will also have the opportunity to comment on any perceived commercial bias in the presentations as well as to identify future educational topics. Accreditation/Credit Designation The University of Texas Cancer Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Texas Cancer Center designates this live activity for a maximum of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nurses Nursing continuing education contact hours will be provided. The University of Texas Cancer Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. CME Certificates and Attendance Verification Certificates Certificates awarding AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM or certificates documenting attendance will be distributed to participants as they depart the conference. To obtain a CME certificate, physicians must submit a completed evaluation questionnaire and a CME Verification Form. Upon request, a record of attendance (certificate) will be provided on-site to other health care professionals for requesting credits in accordance with state nursing boards, specialty societies, or other professional associations.

3 Call for Abstracts and Surgical Films Abstracts and surgical films may be submitted for presentation. The conference executive committee will select four abstracts and/or surgical films for oral presentation at the conference. Additional abstracts will be accepted for poster presentation and surgical films for video presentation. The deadline for submission of abstracts and surgical films is September 1, Abstract and Surgical Film Submission Guidelines 1. Submission of an abstract or surgical film constitutes a commitment by the author(s) to present it if accepted. 2. All submissions must be in English. 3. The abstract or surgical film must have a title that indicates the nature of the investigation. Capitalize each word in the title except for terms that usually appear lowercase, such as prefixes to chemical names. 4. Do not use abbreviations in the title of the abstract or surgical film. Standard abbreviations may be used without definition in the text. Nonstandard abbreviations (kept to a minimum) must be placed in parentheses after the first use of the word or phrase abbreviated. 5. Author names should be written in full. Please include the primary degree for each author (for example, MD, PhD). 6. Omit any reference to your institution in the abstract or surgical film to ensure proper-blinded review. 7. Use generic drug names and International Systems Units. Trade names should not be used. 8. Expenses associated with the submission and presentation of an abstract or surgical film are the responsibility of the presenter. Abstract Submission Regulations 1. The character limit for the abstract is 2,500 including spaces. However, this limit does not include the Abstract Title or Author String. 2. Each Abstract Submission must clearly identify the following: Objectives: an introductory sentence indicating the purpose of the study Methods: a brief description of pertinent experimental procedures, including statistical evaluation where appropriate Results: a summary of the new unpublished data Conclusions: a statement of the conclusions 3. the completed abstract to: ovarianconf@mdanderson.org 4. Abstracts will not be edited; however, the formatting will be altered to replicate that of the conference program where it will be published. 5. Freestanding 4 ft. x 8 ft. display boards and pushpins will be provided for the poster session. Surgical Film Submission Regulations 1. All films must meet the following requirements: Films cannot exceed 10 minutes in duration. Films must include sound. Films must be at regular speed. Films must be in.avi,.mpeg (.mpg) or.wmv format. Films must be uploaded to the submission site for consideration. The maximum file size available for upload is 200 MB. Please submit your film online at 2. Commercial support for the development of the film may be acknowledged by a single credit line, but specific products may not be endorsed in the film.
