35 APPENDIX A Serial Interface Connection The serial admin interface provides the ability to manage a small subset of device functionality e.g. to configure an IP address. Cabling To connect to the serial interface use the female DB-9 to RJ45 adaptor shown in Figure 18 or the USB RJ45 serial cable shown in Figure 19. Both can be supplied by Exterity. Figure 18 DB-9 RJ45 serial adaptor Figure 19 USB RJ45 serial cable The female DB-9 connector should be plugged into the serial port on a PC. A straight-through network cable should be used between the RJ45 socket on the adaptor and the admin port on the Exterity device. Note: Although the cable fits, the admin port should not be connected to the Ethernet port on a PC. Adaptor Wiring If you do not have an adaptor you can make one using the details shown in Figure 20 and Table 3. 38 APPENDIX C Triggering AvediaServer Macros You can use the SNMP traps sent from the Chassis Monitor to trigger a macro on an AvediaServer. AvediaServer macros are configured by specifying a trigger event and a subsequent action. The SNMP trap information from the Chassis Monitor is used to specify the trigger condition. The associated macro can be configured to perform an action such as initiating the display of a configurable message on one or more receivers. You can also configure the macro to respond when the trigger event is resolved. For example, a macro can be configured to respond to the removal of a power supply then respond in a different manner when the power supply is replaced. The following describes the processes required to configure an AvediaServer to respond to an SNMP trigger from a Chassis Monitor. For more detailed information about the AvediaServer Macro Triggers and Macro Builder applications, refer to the AvediaServer Managing your IPTV System Administrator s Guide. To configure a macro: 1. On the AvediaServer desktop click the Macro Builder application icon. 2. Click New to create a new macro. 3. Enter a name and the required actions for the macro. In this example, the path for a web page containing an image to show that Fan 4 has been removed is specified: 4. Click Save. 38 Administrator s Guide

39 To configure the macro trigger: 1. On the AvediaServer desktop click the Macro Triggers application icon. 2. Click New to create a new trigger event. 3. Enter a name for the trigger event. 4. Select the Macro you want to perform when the trigger condition is met and specify the trigger conditions. To specify the Chassis monitor SNMP Trap: o Select the SNMP trigger source o Enter the OID of the ecconfigchangetext ( ) o Enter the value Fan 4 has been removed. Refer to APPENDIX B Trap Strings for each Value. 5. If you have configured a macro to respond to the condition being resolved, Fan 4 inserted for this example, add the end macro details: o Select the SNMP trigger source o Enter the OID of the ecconfigchangetext ( ) o Enter the value Fan 4 has been inserted. Refer to APPENDIX B Trap Strings for each Value. 6. Finally specify the destination device for the macro(s). In this example, an AvediaPlayer receiver is selected to display the message configured in the Macro. Administrator s Guide 39

40 7. Press the Save button. Specify a macro and a trigger event for each additional trap you want to monitor. 40 Administrator s Guide
