3 Where the current journey began Defence ICT in 2009 Characterised by unreliable, inefficient architecture. A massive range of applications with poor interoperability or serviceability. Significant customer frustration in trying to get business solutions or adequate ICT support. Relatively low levels of strategic investment. The then Secretary, Nick Warner, described the environment as a broken backbone.

5 Defence ICT Strategy 2009 The Vision The 2009 Defence ICT Strategy articulated a vision of an agile, robust, ICT environment that supported Defence s business needs out to This vision was supported by an ambitious plan to achieve the reforms that would achieve this vision. Set the goal of achieving $1.9 billion in savings by 2019.

18 Summary The 2009 ICT Strategy was and still is sound Most key initiatives in the 2009 ICT Strategy have been initiated, many completed, and some now 2 nd generation We have come a long way Some projects have run late Running all these projects together has been far more complicated than we anticipated Our large ERPs are still a challenge Applications rationalisation is still a challenge Our customer focus continues to improve We have done a lot in 5 years
