The team is supported by Events Assistant 32,246-39,637, depending on experience 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday Permanent Job Purpose and Background To manage and develop CFG s training and development programmes across all channels, increasing our impact and improving learning, skills and knowledge in charities Inspiring Financial Leadership summarises both CFG s identity and its purpose as an organisation that supports thousands of financial leaders in the charity sector. Our vision is of a Charity Sector that is financially confident, dynamic and trustworthy. We provide a range of services to our members and the sector more widely. These include a broad training programme, a range of publications and how-to guides and a series of meetings and conferences throughout the year. We also work with other sector bodies to lobby the government and regulator on legal and regulatory issues affecting the sector. The organisation has grown consistently in recent years. We have over 1,350 charities in membership who between them manage over 21bn. CFG holds over a 100 events a year, including training courses, conferences, special interest group meetings and members meetings. We need a Training and Content Manager to drive and grow our training and development programme. This post will directly deliver non-specialist training, where relevant as well as manage and drive both our scheduled training programme and more flexible learning options. Our ambition is to have a thriving in-house/bespoke training programme with internal skills and capacity to have the flexibility to deliver sessions ourselves and assess external trainers and speakers for expert content. The position will also be responsible for supporting learning and development of participants across all our events and conferences ensuring a coherent programme and support the events team with content and speaker recommendations. 1

2 Responsibilities This job description outlines the key accountabilities of, and output required from the post holder. It is not a definitive list and the role will change and evolve over time with the new strategy. Training planning and development Design and expand the training and development programmes based on member and sector needs, providing for the range of roles and organisations Identify and support the development of new training course subjects or services which may be emerging through CFG s policy, research, and services, and through analysis of trends in the sector and member needs, matching these with CFG s priorities. Analyse competition and market to ensure a relevant and clear proposition. Develop strategy, operational plans and budgets for different training initiatives as part of the overall training, events and professional development framework. Liaise with CFG staff across teams to jointly develop opportunities and determine responsibility for managing different initiatives as they are realised particularly in relation to the development of themes Keep up to date with developments in training by reading relevant journals, going to meetings and attending relevant courses Have an understanding of e-learning techniques, and where relevant, being involved in the creation and/or delivery of e-learning packages Research new technologies and methodologies in workplace learning and present this research, identifying and expanding opportunities for use of technology in CFG s training programme Maintain an overview of relevant standards in the training market and ensure CFG s engagement with these and where required successful certification or accreditation Represent CFG externally for training related activities and certifications Develop collaborations and strategic partnerships with other training providers Training marketing and promotion Respond to enquiries for bespoke training and any detailed questions about other courses Produce session outlines and marketing copy and support promotion of courses Develop proposals for bespoke and in-house training and discuss with customers Develop and implement a marketing plan for training in collaboration with Events Manager and marketing and communications staff Support funding bids for training programmes Brief other staff internally to be able to answer queries on training 2

3 Training design and delivery Deliver training courses in non-specialist areas, particularly finance for nonfinance managers Design and development of training content and approaches in consultation with customers, trainers and associates Produce training materials and review materials developed by providers Manage the administration, delivery of training and development programmes Manage identification and selection of trainers, and support for trainers with course design and delivery Manage staff and trainers for efficient and high quality delivery of courses and programme to budget and CFG s project management standards, including negotiation terms of reference and contracts, and quality assurance Work with external providers to develop specialist courses Manage major project relations with partners, trainers and customers Task manage the Events Assistant on training activities, co-ordinating workload with Events Manager Training monitoring, evaluation and learning Evaluate training and development programmes Amend and revise programmes as necessary, in order to adapt to changes occurring in the work environment Overall management of the quality assurance of the programme including design of the training, observations with feedback, analysis of participant s feedback and sharing of learning, innovation and good practice across the trainer pool Contribute to effective learning across the programme and across CFG s services and ensure that learning from consultancies, programmes, research, conferences and other CFG activities are reflected in training content Compile and provide data, oral and written reports for management purposes Develop, monitor, and report on annual and project budgets in the field of training in collaboration with finance staff, and authorise related expenditure Define key performance indicators for training activities and report on them Develop and maintain a speakers database To manage activities within set budgets and to monitor and forecast income and expenditure Conferences, members meetings and Special Interest Groups Work with the Events Manager to ensure there is a coherent and complimentary plan and content across the training and all CFG events Support the events team and membership team to develop content for conferences, members meetings and Special Interest Group meetings, writing and reviewing session outlines as needed 3

4 Research and identify potential speakers for conferences and meetings, making recommendations to the events team Provide feedback to other staff on draft programmes and support their learning and understanding of the subjects Contribute to the content of speaker briefings Respond to specialist queries from speakers on sessions that cannot be answered by the events team Additional responsibilities Contribute to the effective communication and marketing of CFG overall through training programmes Contribute to organisation-wide initiatives and participate in organisation-wide activities Understand organisational context and ways of working, particularly liaising with partnership and membership teams for contacts and co-ordination Support the development of cross-function working Where relevant, line management of staff and volunteers, ensuring work is done promptly and accurately, and that cover is provided when they are absent. Conduct appraisals, balance workloads and schedules, and support development Represent CFG at external events and members meetings Maintain an up to date knowledge of external factors that will influence the role At all times, work pro-actively to promote CFG's equal opportunities policies, both in respect of service delivery and employment issues; and to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the post-holder, colleagues, members and visitors Cover for colleagues when necessary Other such duties as shall reasonably be required as part of a collaborative staff team 4

5 Person Specification Qualifications Experience Knowledge/ Understanding Skills/ Abilities Other Essential Excellent standard of education including Maths GCSE and English A Level or equivalent Proven track record in designing and managing training Experience of delivering training courses and developing training materials and guides Experience of identifying and assessing speakers, designing programmes and writing copy which includes technical content Experience of writing training or consultancy proposals and securing new business Experience of project management and co-ordination Knowledge and understanding of financial management Knowledge of finance roles and functions Understanding of and comfort with technical content At least intermediate level use of Microsoft Office Highly Desirable Educated to degree level Finance or accounting training or qualifications CIPD training or qualifications Experience of working in a not-for-profit organisation Knowledge of charity finance Knowledge of charity sector and speakers Ability to relate to people at all levels Excellent communication, negotiating and influencing skills Organisational, planning and time management skills Ability to coach people and give constructive feedback Confident presentation skills Ability to write reports, keep records, and work within budgets Excellent command of English language both written and verbal Exceptional attention to detail Self-starter, able to use own initiative Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly across a small staff team Willingness to travel and work outside normal office hours occasionally 5
