11 Program Options On-Campus All three degrees offered by Graduate Studies in Management (MBA, MBA-HC, & MSM) are available on-campus. On-campus courses meet in Bethany (OKC Metro), Tulsa, and Del City, Oklahoma. On-campus groups meet one-night-a-week on either Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday night from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Classes are held in the Royce Brown Building, which includes a student lounge, computer lab, and kitchen. GSM on-campus students have access to the SNU campus and its resources. Students concentrate on one subject at a time, with each 3-credit module (course) spanning 6 weeks. This program is delivered in an accelerated format, with modules strategically sequenced as building blocks, creating a broad base of skills needed for success. Application and enrollment are available both online or on-campus. Students enroll one time only via Simple Enrollment. All textbooks and materials are delivered direct to the classroom throughout the program. 100% Online MBA and MBA-Health Care are available 100% online. They follow the exact same curriculum, rhythm, and course schedule as their on-campus counterparts, yet never require students to visit a campus or attend a scheduled meeting. Assignments are provided at the beginning of every week and each student creates his/her academic rhythm, based on personal preference. A talented faculty of diverse backgrounds deliver the varying courses to the online cohort as it moves through each 6-week module of the program. Actively supported by the SNU Center for Online Learning, students can take advantage of convenient online learning while obtaining the gold-standard education that has become synonymous with an SNU graduate degree. The MBA is designed for baccalaureate-degreed professionals who desire to expand their career reach. The strategically designed curriculum, expertly facilitated by our expert faculty, fuses durable tradition with progressive real-time knowledge. Special emphasis is given to common and special problems associated with interpersonal and intergroup communication affecting business decisions and operations. ECO 5003 The Economic Environment 3 hrs This course examines economics from a historical perspective. Economic principles are discussed from a management perspective, including production, costs, exchange, distribution and consumption. Students apply economic concepts such as scarcity and opportunity costs, relationship between aggregate supply and demand, profit maximization, foreign trade and banking systems. MGT 5133 Management of Organizational Behavior 3 hrs This course deals with behavioral social systems in work organizations. Topics include individual and group behavior, leadership, organization change and development, behavioral research, decision processes and motivation processes. FIN 5003 The Accounting & Finance Environment 3 hrs Accounting is the language of business; thus, this course incorporates the principles of accounting and finance to provide a foundational understanding of these areas in preparation for other management courses and success in the business environment. A primary focus of this course is financial statement preparation and analysis. MKT 5113 Marketing Management 3 hrs This course is an advanced marketing course that incorporates the techniques and functions of management and marketing as they relate to product, place, price and promotion. Extensive reading, case analysis and marketing plan preparation are used. MGT 6143 Legal Environment of Management 3 hrs This course provides the management student with a sound understanding of today s legal environment. Lectures, reading, group activities and actual case studies are incorporated to assist the student in complying with the appropriate laws governing today s business environment. MGT 6153 Human Resource Management & Admin 3 hrs The focus of this course is to examine the functional areas of human resource management, including acquisition and placement, job analysis and design, training and development, performance management and rewarding of human resources. Extensive reading, writing, group discussions and case studies are utilized. MGT 5153 Ethics in Management 3 hrs This course presents a rational, ethical framework, consistent with Christian values, by which decisions and actions undertaken by business people can be evaluated. 15 MBA Course Descriptions MGT 6131 Management Seminar 1 hr This course consists of three elements: 1) a two-night seminar, Entrepreneurship, 2) a Portfolio created by the student demonstrating his or her growth from entry to completion of the program, and 3) and exit interview. ACC 5113 Management Accounting 3 hrs This course examine the various systems and uses of accounting by managers with emphasis on the management accountant s role in the planning and control function. The organization of data for decision making and the influence of quantitative techniques on management accounting are the major topics for this course. Prerequisite: FIN 5003 or equivalent undergraduate coursework. FIN 5113 Financial Management 3 hrs This course presents an intensive study of the finance function in the corporate world. The financial environment, time-value, capital budgeting, cost of capital, working capital management, debt-equity structure and international finance are examined. ECON 5113 Managerial Economics 3 hrs This course applies economic theory to practical business operations and examines how managers can best structure the architecture of their organizations to motivate various constituencies, thereby increasing the overall value of organization. Attention is focused on the management of assets and allocation of capital. Prerequisite: ECO 5003 or equivalent undergraduate coursework. MGT 5123 Management Science 3 hrs This course explores operations and management science techniques currently used in organizations. Project management, forecasting, inventory models, scheduling and other techniques are included. MGT 6173 Strategic Management 3 hrs This is the capstone course for all the Graduate Studies in Management programs. This course integrates the functional business disciplines (Marketing, Accounting, Human Resources, Operations, Economics and Finance) within the strategic management process. A management simulations component is utilized to demonstrate the strategic linkage of these functional areas. *Curriculum subject to change based on program review. 17 MBA-Health Care Program Description MBA-Health Care The Master of Business Administration in Health Care (MBA-HC) program is designed for baccalaureatedegreed business professionals who are currently working for health care organizations or who desire to pursue a career in management in a health care organization and increase their effectiveness as managers and/or professionals. The mission of the program is to equip the MBA-HC student with the skills needed to be successful managers in the health care industry. The MBA-HC program shares the same DNA as its MBA counterpart; it is professional in nature and is designed to provide a broad educational experience in management. Additionally, the MBA-HC program emphasizes the relationship between management and the functional areas of communication, accounting, economics, finance, marketing, legal issues, and ethics, and how they relate to the health care industry. Students will grow their understanding of progressive and emerging health care trends and develop the skills to lead health care organizations to greater success. 22 MSM Program Description Master of Science, Management MSM Curriculum at a Glance The Master of Science, Management Program is designed for baccalaureate-degreed business professionals whose aspirations are to work primarily in people related management positions (i.e., customer service, human resources, management oversight, etc.). In contrast, the MBA is focused on both the people and financial aspects of management. The MSM consists of 31 credit hours, with 28 of those hours parallel to the MBA program. The MSM program spans 18 months. Strategic Human Resource Management is the capstone course for MSM. The program s practical and manageable approach allowed me to earn my degree without sacrificing educational quality or negatively impacting my professional and personal life.
