The Pre-Conference HR Florida Certification Prep Class is presented by a team of leading HR professionals. Primary focus of the day is key concepts of all the functional areas from the HR body of knowledge. The prep class also offers test taking tips and what to expect on exam day. Attendees will get the benefit of experienced facilitators, peer-to-peer interaction, and a structured classroom environment to enhance learning.

Make the commitment now to take your career to the next level. Speakers Donald C. Works, III, SPHR Donald C. Works, III, is Managing Partner of the Orlando office of Jackson Lewis LLP where he specializes in all aspects of employment law representing management. Mr. Works is a graduate of Auburn University (B.S., Personnel Management and Industrial Relations, 1977) and the University of Miami (J.D., 1981). Mr. Works is Past President of the Central Florida Human Resource Association and the Human Resource Association of Broward County. A certified Senior Professional in Human Resources, he is a regular speaker and has published several articles on wage/hour and employment law topics. Mr. Works has been recognized by his peers in the publications, Best Lawyers in America and Florida s Super Lawyers. Linda Bailey, SPHR With over twenty-five years of experience as a Human Resources Generalist, Linda Bailey, SPHR, is a consultant, speaker, trainer and teacher on many human resource issues while emphasizing the employer-employee relationship. Linda is a graduate of the University of South Florida (B.A. in Business Management) and Florida State University (M.S. in Instructional Systems). Before starting her consulting business, her corporate experience occurred in various industries; with a Fortune 300 company, and as a Vice President of Human Resources for a PEO, (a professional employer organization). Along with a number of HR-related professional associations, she is also a member of the National Speakers Association and its local chapter. As a member of the teaching faculty of Corporate College at the University of South Florida, she teaches a number of courses in the human resources field, including the PHR/SPHR prep course. 3 Franz Gilbert, GPHR, SHRM-SCP SHRM has spent three years developing a new competency model and this led to two new SHRM certifications, the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP. These new certifications recognize that HR professionals are at the core of leading organizational success: Tests the HR professional s competency the ability to put that knowledge to work through critical thinking and application. This session is designed to help prepare those who are going to take the test in the fall, or want to get an overview of the material being tested on. The course will be six hours and full of material based on the SHRM body of knowledge. Franz Gilbert has taught the new SHRM program, trained as one of the round of instructors, and has taught the HRCI materials for many years. He has been teaching HR for many years, with a 90% pass rate. He is also a long time international HR practitioner, blogger, and speaker. Scott Bowers, SPHR The objective of this six hour pre-conference session to provide the new practitioner with a baseline of information that will help them meet the expectations of their organization. The program will be aimed at providing the new HR professional with the breadth of information that is required to be effective and an understanding of how to develop the depth that will be expected in their new role. It will not be an exam prep session but rather a session aimed at motivating and educating the participants on what is expected and how to be a HR professional. In addition for those individuals who wear many hats within their small organization it will give them a primer on how to maximize their effectiveness and minimize their frustration with their HR duties. Objectives of this session: 1. Touch on the very complex role HR plays in today s organizations. 2. Give participants practical ways of coping with HR issues as they happen in every organization without fear or panic. 3. De-mystify practice and theory of HR and how we can effectively deal with all types and levels of employees in a positive manner. Scott Bowers brings a wealth of varied experiences to Lassiter-Ware Inc. He has forty-four years of Human Resource Management experience, working in healthcare, manufacturing, engineering and local government. His Human Resource experience has been recognized by Local and State Affiliates of the Society of Human Resource Management. He was the HR Professional of the Year in 2012 for the State of Florida and has served as Certification Trainer in Lake, Sumter and Marion Counties. As a graduate of the Crosby Quality College and certified QS 9000 Auditor he is familiar with Total Quality Management systems and concepts and how to implement quality concepts into the workforce. His education also includes an undergraduate degree from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio in Business Administration and a Master s in Executive Development from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
