3 Key changes to train ticketing September 2012: You can start to buy your ticket before you board from new Ticket & Top-Up machines at all stations. You can still purchase tickets from existing Ticket Offices and onboard for a limited time. 10 Trip tickets and passes will no longer be sold onboard trains or rail replacement buses. You can still purchase these from existing Ticket Agents. Your ticket may be checked either before you board, while you are on the train, or at your destination. Auckland Transport ambassadors will be available to help you buy a ticket from Ticket & Top-Up machines. From 28 October 2012: 10 Trip tickets, Day Rover and adult monthly passes will be replaced by the Auckland Transport HOP prepay card (AT HOP). More information on AT HOP card to come! Other passes will be replaced by the AT HOP card over time. Taking your bicycle on the train will be free (subject to staff discretion at busy times). 4 Why changes are happening. These changes will make Auckland s public transport system easier and more convenient for all customers. New prepay card is coming late October. The new integrated ticketing system will let you travel on all public transport using a prepay card. You can use cash, eftpos or credit cards at Ticket & Top-Up machines. Auckland Transport ambassadors will be available to help. Get used to buying your ticket before you board. Your ticket may be checked before you board, while you are on the train, or at your destination. You will still be able to buy a single paper ticket from existing Ticket Offices at Britomart, Newmarket, New Lynn and onboard for a limited time. If you get a transfer ticket, please continue buying this onboard. 5

If you have a 10 Trip ticket, you can still use it until its expiry date, so you can use the full value of your ticket. The expiry date will be stamped on your ticket. You will still keep your 10 Trip ticket discount on the AT HOP card. 56
7 Monthly passes. From 28 October, Instead of having your current adult monthly pass, you will load your monthly pass onto the Auckland Transport HOP prepay card (AT HOP). Any monthly passes still in use after 28 October can still be used for travel until their expiry date, so you can use the full value of your ticket. The expiry date will be stamped on your ticket. You will still keep your adult monthly discount on the AT HOP card. 8 FAQs. When will the Auckland Transport HOP card (AT HOP) be available? It will be available from late October. We will give you more information soon. Does the AT HOP card cost anything? Yes. A one off cost of $10 which also gives you a standard discount of up to 10% on all fares. I already have a HOP Snapper card that I use on buses. Can I use that on trains? No. The current HOP Snapper card is only available for use on NZ Bus buses. HOP Snapper cards will be phased out and replaced with the new AT HOP card when NZ Bus services become part of the integrated ticketing system. We will keep you updated. How will my 10 Trip ticket work on the AT HOP card? 10 Trip tickets won t exist after 27 October. These will be replaced by loading HOP money on your card. Using the AT HOP card gives you up to 10% discount on fares. How will my monthly pass work on the AT HOP card? You will simply load a monthly pass onto your card. The monthly pass works the same as a paper ticket except it s on a reusable plastic card.
