THE 2009 ASTM JOHNS : Standardization of Mold Response Procedures, sponsored by, will be held July 13 15, 2009 at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont, USA. The three-day conference is one of the ongoing series of ASTM Johnson Conferences and the University of Vermont venue provides an informal forum for cutting-edge analysis and discussion of controversial issues. Conference emphasis will be on practical, science-based field applications. The program will focus on development of standard mold protocols considering moisture dynamics, occupant sensitivity, analytical techniques, use, misuse and interpretation of microbial testing, response options and verification. Critiques of existing guidelines, discussion of litigation methodology and new technologies will also be presented. The Conference format will include the following four sessions: HEALTH health effects; screening procedures; causation; susceptibility ASSESSMENT building inspection techniques, moisture evaluation TESTING sampling and analytical procedures; new technologies; data interpretation REMEDIATI removal/treatment options; site control; personal protection; verification Roundtable discussions will encourage audience participation and solicit recommendations for protocol development, prioritizing research needs and suggesting new consensus standards for development by ASTM Committee D22. The Conference will be of interest to investigators (e.g., hygienists, engineers, physicians, and public health officials), laboratory analysts and managers, stakeholders (e.g., building owners and managers, insurance industry, public interest groups) and federal, state and local government representatives.
