We ve had a very long and interesting winter here in Florida! We even got snow this year. It doesn t snow in Florida??!! At least that s what I thought. So I m truly planning to enjoy every minute of the summer, it can t come soon enough for me. What about you? Are you looking forward to enjoying the summer months? Whether you re planning to host or attend lots of cookouts or make plans to go to the beach, I ve prepared a few of my go-to Beauty Secrets that I d like to share with you. Consider this a Top 7 guide of the steps, products and beauty regimens for healthy hair, skin and body. Of course a woman never reveals ALL her secrets, but these 7 are certainly high on my list of steps to take and products to use to help you feel and look your best this summer. I even pulled in tips from Women s Health Magazine on How To Choose The Right Swimsuit For Your Body Type, so you can feel confident on the beach or at the pool. (Want to read this now? There are great tips for toning and shaping up, how to get that messy, yet oh so sexy beach hair look, and we even threw in 2 Bonus Beauty Secrets for how to perk up tired skin and what to look for in a good exfoliator. Well we ve got a lot to share, so let s jump in!
3 Skin Care Secrets For A Natural Glow 1. Tone & Moisturize Your Face. Nothing gives your skin a healthy glow like a good skin care regimen. I know you may be like me and try to skip one or two steps to save time, but there are 2 steps you absolutely should do every morning and every night after you cleanse your face: Tone AND Moisturize. The Benefits of Toning I read somewhere recently that a good toner will not only take away, but it will give back. That s why it s important to do this step. A good toner will not only remove any excess make up or oil your cleanser missed, but it will also nourish your skin, tighten your pores and improve skin tone. If your toner is too harsh it can strip your skin. If it s too mild, it may not be getting the job done. Since toning should be a part of every skin care regimen, consider purchasing one that gives your more bang for your buck. Hydrated Skin Is Happy Skin I know you re thinking: I ll be putting on sunscreen, why do I need moisturizer? Simply put, sunscreen is not moisturizer. The secret to naturally glowing skin is moisture. So when you head outside, use a moisturizer that also contains SPF or want to apply both of them separately. Moisturizer first - so it gets absorbed, then follow it with the sunscreen. In the summer, you may want to use a light weight moisturizer, however make sure it s doing the job. Some sunscreens can dry out your skin, so you ll want to find the combination that works right for you.
4 2. Take Your Vitamins. Take care of your skin inside - out with a daily vitamin. For healthy, glowing skin, look for vitamins A, B, C and D as well as vitamins that contain omega-3 fatty acids, such as fish oil or flax seed. Vitamin C is especially helpful for brightening and clearing the skin. Don t forget: Many of these vitamins can also be in your favorite foods like carrots and tomatoes (Vitamin C), dark berries like blue berries, raspberries and blackberries (antioxidants), and salmon (rich in omega-3 s). Have you tried Kale? Kale contains a full range of vitamins A, B complex, C, E and K, as well as potent levels of manganese, calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, protein, folate and phosphorus - all of these are great for your skin. Eating super foods like kale can improve skin tone and elasticity with just a few servings a week. 3. Detox. Detox. Detox. Speaking of inside-out beauty, detoxing is by far one of the best things you can do for your skin. Here s the best kept secret: Water naturally detoxes your body. Just drinking 8-10 glasses per day will help you eliminate toxins and it purifies the blood stream, which clears your skin. Water will also help keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. 5 More About Drinking Water Summer Time = More Water, Please. Even if you re not a fan of water, you ll want to remind yourself to stay hydrated when you re in the sun for long periods of time. Juices and sodas won t cut it. They just dehydrate you faster, which could lead to heat strokes or worse. Take out your water and Drink up! 4. Use Good Sunscreen. All skin colors need sunscreen. It s true that darker skin tones don t tan as easily as lighter skin tones, however, the sun is an equal opportunity offender when it comes to skin burns and over exposure. 6 What To Look for When You Buy Sunscreen - Advice from the CDC 55Pick a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against UV-A and UV-B rays and has a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least Read product labels. Look for a waterproof brand if you will be sweating or swimming. Buy a nonstinging product or one specifically formulated for your face. 55Buy a brand that does not contain para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) if you are sensitive to that ingredient. 55Try a sunscreen with different chemicals if your skin reacts badly to the one that you are using. Not all sunscreens have the same ingredients. 55Use a water-based sunscreen if you have oily skin or are prone to acne. 55Be aware that more expensive does not mean better. Although a costly brand might feel or smell better, it is not necessarily more effective than a cheaper product. 5Be 5 aware of the expiration date because some sunscreen ingredients might degrade over time. And let s not forget the most practical sunscreen of all: A big, bouncy beach hat and shades. It s like insta-shade tree!

8 Tummy Toning Tips Tummy toning exercises. I think those Beachbody coaches know a few moves that can help with this. You can also find dozens of ab and tummy workouts on Pinterest. Type in Ab Workouts in the search bar. If you have used Pinterest, you know how easy it is to get distracted - so just remember to get in and get out so you will time to actually do the exercises! Or, you could apply a Skinny Wrap and use the 45 minutes to find more interesting things on Pinterest ;) Cut out the sugar. I ll let someone else tell you about this one, since I am not one to give up sugar easily. Jorge Cruise, author of The Belly Fat Cure, explains that too much sugar in your diet cause you to store fat that our bodies would normally burn. Here s how he put it: Glucagon, a hormone, is the best friend you could ever have in the struggle for a flat belly! Picture Ms. Pac-Man traveling around your waistline, gobbling up fat to be used as energy. That is glucagon. The closer to zero grams of sugar you consume, the lower your insulin and the higher your glucagon...it s as simple as that. Use natural fat burning supplements. For stubborn stomach fat, you may want to try natural supplements to help boost your fat-burning metabolism. In addition to regular exercise, fat burners (or in my company s terms: Fat Fighters) can help break down stubborn fat with concentrated vitamins and herbs. Do your research on these and make sure you choose one that is not harsh on your body - not all fat burners are created equal.
9 6. Natural Tanning Secrets. Even though you ll be getting lots of sun on the beach, you don t have to wait until you get there to start getting some color. Before you head for the tanning salon, consider these natural secrets for natural tanning: Doctors recommend limiting sun exposure to 20 minutes per day. Dr. Arieal Ostad even advises to stay out of the sun from 11AM - 4PM. So does that mean we have to eat in for lunch? Not quite. The doctor recommends using a good sunscreen (See Beauty Secret #4) to protect your skin throughout the day. DIY Self Tanning - There are a few boards on Pinterest that show you how to make your own tanning lotion using everyday products you likely have at home. The simplest one combines 1/3 cup of cocoa powder with 1/2 cup of body lotion. Be sure to exfoliate your skin first (see our Bonus Skin Care Secret #2 below) before you apply the mixture. After you apply the chocolate body mask, let it completely dry before rinsing away, and you ll have a natural tan that will last about 2 days. You won t get a deep, dark tan but you will notice a difference. Store bought tanners. Be careful with this one. Be sure to use only natural products as some store bought tanners contain harmful chemicals. Like your toner, you ll want to research this one. Look for tanners that do NOT contain: alcohol, parabens or harmful preservatives.
10 Bonus Skin Care Secret #2: Exfoliate All Over Want beach-ready skin? Add exfoliation to your skin care routine 2-3 times per week. Exfoliation is good for both your face and body to renew your skin s surface and help your skin absorb nutrients from moisturizers. But don t use a harsh exfoliant or you ll be doing more harm than good. To be on the safe side, use (or make your own) products that contain mild exfoliants such as sea salt, sugar, oatmeal, mud or clay.
11 7. Secrets For Choosing The Right Swimsuit. No list of beach body beauty secrets would be complete without sharing tips for finding a good swim suit. Women s Health Magazine has great tips for choosing the bet swimsuit for your body shape. In fact, I m only going to summarize it here, but feel free to take a look at their guide for detailed tips and pointers. How To Choose A Bikini For Your Body Pear: Your body is a little more narrow up top and wider on the bottom ---- Draw the eye up with molded cups, halter straps, or cleavage detailing. Shop for full coverage bottoms with feminine tops with more detail. Straight or Rectangular: You have a small frame and shoulders and hips measure about the same ---- Flaunt your straight silhouette in an ittybitty string bikini. Enhance your boobs and butt with ruffles, gathering, or padding. Athletic or Apple: Your shoulders are broader than your hips and your legs are muscular ---- Shop for suits with a little embellishment. Focus on feminine cuts and details. Pass on bandeaus, boy-cut briefs, and shapeless tanks. Curvy Hourglass: Your waist is smallest measurement. Your top & bottom measure about the same ---- Complement your curves and keep your assets in place by shopping for suits with lots of support. Choose bottoms with fuller coverage.
