2 Cowgirl Soccer Head Coach Anne Moore (North Carolina State, 93) Anne Moore enters her sixth year as the head women s soccer coach at the University of Wyoming. She became just the second head soccer coach in Cowgirl history on January 14, Following last season, Moore was named the 2003 Mountain West Conference Soccer Coach of the Year. She led the Cowgirls to a record of 10-9, the best finish in the programs nine year history. The Cowgirls finished the MWC regular season in a second place tie with BYU with a conference record of 4-2, Wyoming s best ever finish. Prior to accepting the position at Wyoming, Moore gained experience with another young soccer program. As the first women s soccer coach in East Tennessee State University history, she helped start the program in 1997 and was there for two years before heading west. She was also a graduate assistant for two years before serving as Virginia Tech s first full-time assistant coach from Moore has extensive experience as a collegiate soccer player. She was a four-year letterwinner at North Carolina State from While playing at N.C. State, Moore s teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament every season, and twice advanced to the Elite Eight and all the way to the Final Four in Moore earned her undergraduate degree in 1993 from N.C. State with a bachelor of arts in communications. She then went on to earn a master s of education degree with a concentration in sports management from Virginia Tech in Besides her university coaching experience, Moore also has served as the Director of Coaching, in both Virginia and Tennessee club programs, and has been actively involved in the Olympic Development programs in both Tennessee and Wyoming. She received her United States Soccer Federation B License in 2001 and her NSCAA Advanced National License in Moore s first season with the Cowgirls was filled with close and exciting match-ups in twelve road games and only six regular season home matches. The team accomplished a great deal by winning their first conference game, and won the first ever road game in the program s history. In 2000, the team continued to make strides, winning their first ever match on a neutral field and produced the second most successful season in history with seven wins. The Cowgirls also broke numerous career and single season records. The 2001 team was competitive within the conference defeating Air Force for the first time in the programs history and tying both New Mexico and San Diego State. For the first time in school history three Cowgirls were selected as MWC First-Team performers in senior Lori Scheider, sophomore Mercy Adetoye and red-shirt freshman Kristen Stangl following last season. The year was highlighted by a 4-0 start in league play featuring first-time wins over San Diego State and UNLV. A Springfield, Va. native, Moore and her husband Curt, a police officer in Laramie, have two sons; Blake (5) and Kyle (2). Assistant Coach Misty Long (Evansville, 97) Misty Long enters her fifth season as an assistant coach with the Cowgirl Soccer program. She came to Wyoming after spending two years as an assistant at the University of Evansville and one year at the University of Southern Indiana. Long, a Carlsbad, N.M. native, was one of the first recruits to sign with the UE women s soccer program. She was a four-year starter and letterwinner at goalkeeper and still owns several school records. Long was a team captain in 1996 when the team won their first conference championship. She was selected Second Team All-Great Midwest Conference in 1994 and First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference in Last season, Long helped lead the Cowgirls to a record, the best in school history. The Cowgirls finished tied for second place in the Mountain West Conference with a 4-2 record, also the best finish in Cowgirl soccer history. For the first time ever three Cowgirls were named First-Team All-MWC. Long earned a bachelor of science degree in educational studies with an emphasis in physical education from Evansville in 1997, and her USSF A License in She was a state goalkeeper coach for the Indiana Olympic Development Program, and is a current goalkeeper coach for the Region II Olympic Development Program. She has conducted multiple youth soccer camps and was the head coach for several soccer club teams. Assistant Coach Kim Whisenant (North Carolina State 96) Kim Whisenant returns to the University of Wyoming for a second tenure as assistant soccer coach this fall. She was a Cowgirl assistant coach during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. Whisenant spent the 2001 and 2002 seasons as an assistant coach at Tulane University. While with Tulane, she helped guide the Green Wave to their first winning season in six years as they went 9-8 in Before joining the Cowgirl staff in 1999, Whisenant served as a graduate assistant coach at East Tennessee State University during the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Whisenant played four seasons at North Carolina State where she helped lead the Wolfpack to three NCAA tournament appearances. During her senior season, NC State reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament and was at one time ranked as high as sixth nationally. Following college, she played in the U.S.W.I.S.L for the Baltimore Lady Bays, Maryland Pride and Fort Collins Force. Whisenant earned her bachelor s degree in communication from NC State in She holds an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association and an USSF A license from the United States Soccer Federation. The former Kim Murphy, she is married to Assistant Athletics Director Matt Whisenant. The couple welcomed a son, Landon Thomas in December of 2003.
