Certified instructors invite you to discover skiing and snowboarding in one of our many programs designed for the absolute beginner to the advanced skier/snowboarder to suit all ages. Our dedicated Instructors are constantly developing their skills to deliver the best teaching methods so that you receive the finest experience possible. Toronto Ski and Snowboard Centres programs are a great way for the entire family to stay fit and have fun this winter. Both centres offer a variety of season passes to suit your lifestyle and family needs. Try a new winter activity or rediscover the adventure in your own backyard. Seasons passes are accepted at both locations. 2 Registration Registration for all ski and snowboard programs begins September 17. See pages 7-9 for How to Register. Where applicable the 13% HST will be added to all adult programs, rentals and passes. Program Options When registering please select one of the two options: No Rental Lessons only (includes lift access during lesson time only). Helmet not included. With Rental Lessons and full set of rental equipment for use during lesson time only (includes lift access during lesson time only). Helmet included. Note: If a program does not have a With Rental code listed, it means that rental equipment is NOT available on that day/time. Lesson Information Recognized ski and snowboard helmets are required for all program participants. See page 108 for details. Participants should follow the program levels to ensure optimal progression. Skipping levels is not permitted as essential development of ski and snowboard skills will be missed. Students progress at different speeds, as a result placement and movement of students may occur during the first three sessions. It is strongly recommended that if a lesson is missed (due to personal reasons), the student must practice to ensure they do not fall behind their group s ability level. Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre does not offer make up classes for lessons missed for personal reasons. All children must be picked up by their parent/guardian at the end of their lesson. There is absolutely no extended time on equipment rental or lift access after the end of a lesson. Program start times may be altered, cancelled or rescheduled due to weather, snow conditions or instructor availability. Parent/guardian must stay on the premises during lessons. For the safety of all patrons and participants, it is not permitted to be on any of the hills or on-snow terrain unless wearing proper ski/ snowboard equipment. Lesson Tag Pick-up and Equipment Fitting Upon registering for a program or set of private lessons, every participant must attend one of our Lesson Tag Pick Up and Rental Equipment Fitting Days. All participants must have a Lesson Tag in order to participate in their lesson. The lesson tag will be issued once a waiver is signed in person by a parent/guardian at Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre. All participants renting equipment must be properly sized for skis or snowboards to help eliminate size changes on the first day of lessons. Parents/Guardian of participants under 18 years of age must be present on this day. We do not recommend that you wait until the first class to pick up your Lesson Tag or get fitted for rental equipment. You will miss your first class as well as cause a delay for others. Please initiate equipment changes from Rental to No Rental prior to the third class for 8 week programs and second class for 4 week programs. Full Season Pass entitles a person to enjoy the centre during all hours of lift operation. Night Season Pass entitles a person to enjoy the centre from 3:30pm to closing seven nights a week. Monday-Friday Daytime Pass entitles a person to enjoy the centre from opening to 4pm. Season Passes are valid at both Toronto Ski and Snowboard Centres. A $40 non-resident fee is applied to all winter 2015/16 season snow passes. A $10 replacement fee will be charged for lost passes. Rental equipment cannot be issued to anyone under 18 years of age without being accompanied by a parent/guardian. A $300 credit card pre-authorization or cash deposit is required per set to rent ski or snowboard equipment. Card owner s signature is necessary. An additional $50 is required for each helmet rental. Note: Interac pre-authorizations are not available. One piece of valid government issued photo identification is required to rent equipment. Equipment is in high demand on weekends and holidays and is distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Upon arrival there may be a waiting period until equipment becomes available. 3 Corporate Events, Special Group Visits/ Board of Education Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre invites your group to visit our unique facility. Instructional lessons can be provided. Call for information starting early September. Special Events CSPS Ski Swap at Centennial Park, 256 Centennial Park Road December 6, 10am-4pm December 7, 10am-2:30pm Members of the Canadian Ski Patrol System (CSPS) will be selling new and gently used ski and snowboard equipment. Note: Public equipment receiving will take place on December 6, 5pm-7pm. Reclaiming equipment will take place on December 8, 5pm-6:30pm. For more information contact CSPS directly. Adults Pay, Kids Play Night Join us every Saturday night from 4pm until close for Family Night. Each adult pays $27 for a snowpass and up to two children can ski or snowboard for free with them. (Note: Adult and Children must be present to purchase passes, children must be under 18 years of age, regular rental rates and requirements apply). Family Day Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre will be open on February 15, 10am-9:30pm for Family Day. Join us and have some fun with the entire family. Family Night Special is in effect starting at 4pm. There will be no regular classes held on February 15. Additional class will be added on February 29 for Monday classes. One day Special Introductory Learn to Ski and Snowboard Lessons and Private Lessons will be offered on Family Day. Policies Participant Helmet Policy All participants in any Toronto Ski and Snowboard Centre program must wear a recognized ski or snowboard helmet while participating in any instructional programs. All No Rental participants must supply their own helmet. All With Rental participants will have a helmet provided as part of the rental component. Any programs that do not have a With Rental option require participants to supply their own recognized helmet. Participants who do not have a recognized ski or snowboard helmet will not be admitted to class. This policy applies to all adults, youth and children in programs. Make up classes or refunds will not be issued for clients who miss classes for this reason. Weather We operate our programs in all weather conditions including heavy snow, rain, sleet, wind, and days full of sunshine. Our instructors are trained to deal with various weather conditions and to ensure that quality lessons take place. Regardless, all participants must understand that they may encounter various weather conditions. However, in very severe conditions the centre may close and postpone lessons. Lessons cancelled by our operation will be added to the end of the regularly scheduled period of lessons. Registration Registration for programs are permitted up to the start of the program s second class only for 8 week programs and first class for 4 week programs. Registered clients will be withdrawn if not up to class level. Transfers A transfer fee of $10 (per person/per course) will be applied to any client initiated request to move from one program to another or from one class to another. Transfers must be requested prior to the third class/day for 8 week programs and second class for 4 week programs. Transfers will be prorated. Equipment changes from Rental to No Rental must be done prior to the third class for 8 week programs and second class for 4 week programs. Tobogganing While Tobogganing may be a fun activity, The City of Toronto does not permit tobogganing on the Ski and Snowboard hills in accordance with Parks By-Law 608. To learn more about the Tobogganing By-Law visit toronto.ca/parks. Photography Policy Parents/Guardians wishing to use a video camera or other cameras must receive permission from staff before filming. Pictures may only be taken of children/patrons in their care. Every attempt should be made to limit or eliminate other patrons in the background. Age Overrides All of our ages are set in accordance with industry standards and have been implemented based on the physical demands of the skill sets that will be taught (including muscle control, muscle coordination and strength development). In order to ensure the safety of all participants, age overrides are not permitted for ski or snowboard programs given the complex nature of all skill sets being taught during lessons. All Pre-School Programs: Children must be the required age by the START date of the program. All Other Programs: Participants must be the required age by the END date of the program. Withdrawals All cancellations/withdrawals must be initiated prior to the start of the programs third class/day for 8 week programs and second class for 4 week programs. No refunds or credits will be considered after this date. Withdrawals will be prorated based on the date of withdrawal not based on attendance in the program. A $10 administration fee will be deducted, per person, per program, for all refunds, withdrawals and credits. Family Day There will be no classes held on February 15. Additional class will be added on February 29 for Monday classes. One day special introductory learn to ski or snowboard lessons will be offered. 8-week Program Policies Registration for the 8 week program will not be accepted after the second class. Registered participants who have missed the first two classes will not be permitted to continue in the program unless they have demonstrated the appropriate ski/snowboard ability. 5 Introduction to Ski and Snowboarding Lessons Persons who have never skied or snowboarded can be introduced to the sport by joining a group of beginners, or you may form your own group for a one-time, all-inclusive discounted package. Package includes a two-hour lesson with lift ticket and rental equipment (including helmet). Lessons run on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting January 5 and 7, from 6:15pm-8:15pm. Register for lessons using the same method as our Fall/Winter program registration starting September 17. You can register online, by phone, or by TTR. In-person registration at Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard centre starts November hour cancellation notice is required. City of Toronto policies for withdrawals, refunds and credits applies to all lesson registrations. Participants who miss their pre-booked lesson will be charged the full lesson fee. Participants must arrive 45 minutes prior to their lesson and must check in with the administration department. On lesson day, a $350 credit card pre-authorization or cash deposit and photo i.d. is required per person for the rental portion of the package. Late Policy: Due to the structure of the lesson, participants arriving 15 minutes or later will not be permitted to participate. Beginner Package: This introductory two-hour lesson is intended for first-time students. It starts on our rope tow-beginner terrain, snowboarders will start on the main hill. Skiers will learn the basics of putting on equipment, walking around with equipment, climbing and stopping and turning in a wedge. Snowboarders will learn the basics of putting on equipment and moving around, use of lifts and controlling speed on both the tow and heel edge.
