TDS extends 300 Mbps FTTH, IPTV several NH communities TDS Telecom (NYSE: TDS) is investing in its fiber to the home (FTTH) drive, offering consumers a mix of 300 Mbps data and IPTV service. This deployment also will include its Fiberville concept, which rewards residents and neighborhoods with special offers and discounts once 15 percent of a neighborhood pre-registers for TDS TV service. When the Fiberville status is achieved, each pre-registered household can choose an upgrade--either free HDTV or a higher Internet speed tier--for life. The service provider plans to start installing equipment to support the first neighborhood installations of TDS TV and the 300 Mbps tier this month. Available on either a standalone service or as part of a TV bundle, the 300 Mbps service includes Remote PC Support. Andover, Hollis, Warner, Salisbury, Boscawen and New London have or will have fiber investment.
FairPoint Meets Broadband Expansion Commitment in New Hampshire Expansion effort brings broadband to 95 percent of company s access lines in the State MANCHESTER, NH FairPoint Communications announced it has met its goal to increase broadband access to 95% of it s access lines in New Hampshire by December 31, 2014.
TWC/Comcast Merger 1. Merger being looked at by anti-trust 2. Likely to be opposed by many as a large monopoly 3. Good for New Hampshire

State Challenges Lack of competition in many markets and government policy concerning broadband expansion left up to the free market. Cost to deploy broadband in unserved and underserved communities is very expensive. No ROI to serve the rural last miles. Physical infrastructure and deregulation negotiating federal and state jurisdictional issues - 3 rd party attachers on telephone poles, municipal bonding for broadband infrastructure, and cable franchise agreements. Cell Coverage in pockets throughout the state #1 issue for public safety. Beyond availability broadband adoption, affordability, and capacity will continue to be challenges for many years to come. The Broadband Mapping and Planning Program funding ends 12/31/14. Without data NH will not be able to measure progress.
State Legislation HB286 bonding for broadband infrastructure (SC) HB1458 authorizing towns and cities to establish special assessment districts for community economic development ( Recommended) SB344 relative to cable franchise agreements (SC) HB1265 relative to coordination and funding broadband information infrastructure by E911
