Pisces System Work Elements Produce environmental compliance documentation During this quarter data summaries and reports were completed for the ESA compliance and reporting for the Smolt Monitoring Program and the Comparative Survival Study were completed. Approval to conduct the Smolt Monitoring Program sampling and CSS marking was provided by NOAA. Provide Technical Review The FPC staff in response to requests from fishery managers provided technical reviews of reports and conclusions of acoustic tag studies of performance standards at John Day Dam. The FPC staff provided technical review of the Odessa Sub-area EIS. FPC staff also continued to provide technical support in the Fish Passage Advisory Committee.

2 Analyze/Interpret data The FPC responded to various requests for data analysis and data summaries. The FPC responded to 9 requests for data and analysis, which are listed below and which are posted on the FPC web site. 1. Review 2011 Acoustic Tag study design for John Day Dam - March 24, Data request to review 2010 PIT-tag reach survival data in relation to flows and spill levels experienced by out-migrating juvenile salmon - March 2, John Day Dam Operations in 2011, COE White Paper Sensitivity Analysis - March 2, Comments on Draft 2011 Spring Fish Operations Plan - February 28, Data request regarding spill at John Day Dam - February 28, NOAA Tangle Net Study and Sort by Code Request - February 18, Review Performance Standard Testing / John Day February 16, Draft Environmental Impact Statement, Odessa Subarea Special Study - January 13, Effects of passage through juvenile powerhouse bypass systems at main stem dams on the Snake and Columbia Rivers. - January 28, 2011 Develop RME methods and designs The FPC staff invested significant staff time in preparing for the implementation of the Smolt Monitoring Program for 2011, including modifications to protocols and procedures to include lamprey in the sampling and data reporting process. FPC staff developed a training session with USFWS personnel to train SMP remote site personnel in juvenile lamprey identification and data reporting for the 2011 SMP. Training sessions were also held, at USGS facilities, for Gas Bubble Trauma monitoring for the 2011 SMP. Disseminate raw summary and data results FPC DATA CENTER ACCOMPLISHMENTS REPORT FIRST QUARTER January through March Hardware / OS Software Upgrades Built a YAKAMA STAR-2 Computer, installed Windows server 2003 with IIS6, setup as a secure webserver.

3 FPC Router was reprogrammed to allow access to the STAR-2 Computer from the internet Built a new SQL-Main3 computer with updated RAID arrays Built a new backup webserver with Windows server 2003 and IIS6, an upgrade from IIS 5. Added DFS replication to the new backup webserver so that the current webserver is completely replicated on the backup webserver Our old webserver stopped running, so our backup webserver became the primary webserver. It has a different operating system with a newer IIS. Staff members researched and setup the settings/software required to make all of our software and website queries run under the new IIS service, since security and other settings had significantly changed between the older IIS and the newer IIS service. Upgraded all of the SMP machines to be able to run the new version of FPC32.net and the new GBT.net program for the 2011 season. Visited each of the sites to setup the computers on-site for the season. Software Development Development, testing and implementation of the 2011 update of the FPC32.net remote data entry program was carried out during the first quarter of The major updates of the FPC32.net program involved changing the status of lamprey from an incidental species to a species of concern. This change involved adding four new codes for lamprey juveniles so that the number of each species of lamprey juvenile could be entered into the catch detail data entry tab, for estimation of collection counts. In addition, this required that the batch reports printed from the FPC32.net needed to incorporate changes for the added lamprey species codes. JDA is participating in a pilot study of collecting condition data on lamprey juveniles in To accommodate this pilot study, FPC data staff developed a new touch screen for condition data entry that incorporates lamprey juveniles. Under this pilot study, lamprey juveniles are being evaluated for the same conditions as the juvenile salmon. The condition reports were upgraded to allow for the added lamprey species and condition sampling results. A new GBT data entry program was developed and tested during the first quarter of This program was developed in.net. This program allows the user the choice of entering data through a basic data entry grid (conventional data entry) or real-time using a touch screen data entry screen. In addition, new updated GBT reports were developed for output by this program. A new batch posting program was developed to post the SMP site batches with the new lamprey codes, JDA lamprey condition data, and the new GBT.net data files. Updated and deployed 2011SMP site-specific tools to incorporate the new lamprey data into the on-site databases. Updated the NEZ Perce Fish Express 2.3 application to include: o Delete button deletes records from lclhederinfo1, lcltargetcatch1, lclincidentalcatch1, lclcpittagcatch1 and lclptheder1 tables for selected batch. o Delete All button deletes records from lclhederinfo1, lcltargetcatch1, lclincidentalcatch1, lclcpittagcatch1 and lclptheder1 tables for all batches on client PC. o Setup ->Species Species panel allows upgrading existing database on client PC in case of Fish Express previous version.

4 o Now only need to enter PC name, current sa password and click Update Service button Documentation and Training FPC staff coordinated a pre-season meeting with SMP staff from various sites to demonstrate new version of FPC32.net data entry program, refresh site personnel on SMP protocol, and provide introduction to upcoming GBT.net data entry program. FPC staff coordinated with USFWS staff to provide a lamprey juvenile identification training session for SMP site personnel. The FPC staff updated the following three documents, provided copies to each of the SMP sites and posted the documents on the website. o SMP Sampling Protocol o Condition Sampling Protocol o FPC32.net Data Entry Program Manual (2011) The FPC staff wrote a new GBT.net Protocol and Data Entry Manual (2011), provided copies to each of the GBT sites, and posted the document on the website. FPC staff set up a GBT training session at the USGS Cook laboratory for staff from each of the GBT sites. This training session also included instruction on how to use the new GBT.net data entry program. o FPC staff traveled to Rock Island Dam to provide training with new GBT.net program and updated FPC.net program. Website, Daily Reports and Data Updates The end of year and beginning of year website maintenance was completed. This included updating web scripts, pages and graphs for Updated Spawning Redd map webpages to include 2010 chum spawning maps Preliminary hatchery release data for 2011 releases were gathered from agencies and entered into hatchery release database. FPC staff continues to update these records as releases occur and data become available. Created new Hatchery navigation pages including: Main Hatchery Data webpage, Hatchery Database Queries Page, Hatchery Reports Page, Hatchery Links Page and an updated Hatchery IHots Report page. Daily SMP reports and scripts were updated to include the new lamprey data in the catch detail section of the SMP batches (with the 4 new lamprey codes). The following reports were updated to incorporate lamprey juvenile data: o Two week Passage Index o Two week Catch Report o Weekly SMP Mortality Report by Site Updated CSS queries and graphs to incorporate data from CSS 2010 Annual report including: CSS Estimated Population of Smolts and Number of Returning per Study Category, CSS Returning Adults Age Composition, CSS SARS by Study Category, CSS SR, TIR and D and CSS Overall Annual SARS for the Snake and Columbia Rivers

5 FPC updated online queries and graphs to incorporate lamprey as a species of concern including: o 2011 Daily Passage Data for the Smolt Monitoring Project o 2011 Daily Passage Graph for the Smolt Monitoring Project changed graph from line to bar graph o Historic Daily Passage Data for the Smolt Monitoring Project (added lamprey incidental data with sample counts) o Historic Daily Passage Graph for the Smolt Monitoring Project (added lamprey incidental data with sample counts) changed graph from line to bar graph o SMP Site Daily Juvenile Mortalities, Smolt Data Incidental Catch Query (added new lamprey adult incidental species codes), FPC staff updated 2010 CSS release and tagging sites location and release data. Maps were developed for a presentation at the CSS Annual Meeting Created a secure website entitled STAR2 for the Yakama and attached it to our website menu. It requires a username and password to access it.

21 FPC.ORG WEBSITE STATISTICS FIRST QUARTER January through March Our webserver was upgraded to a newer operating system this quarter which consequently changed the format of the website log files. We are trying out a new website log analysis software package. The variables that the package summarized are named and defined slightly differently than the package we previously used to analyze the web logs. The Log Analyzer, the software package we are currently evaluating, defines a hit as a request for any object or file on a web site. Visits are a count of the number of times a user has logged into the site over a specified period. A visit session is terminated when a user falls inactive for more than 30 minutes. Page views are the number of times each webpage was viewed. The FPC website is the primary vehicle for data distribution. During the first quarter of 2011, FPC.org had 2,768,372 hits. There were a total of 313,384 pages viewed and 186,803 visits to the website. The average hits per day were 30,759 and the average pages viewed per day were 3,482. The numbers of unique page views were 255,319. About 82% of the visits to the website consisted of the visitor opening one page, about 9.5% consisted of 2 pages and 5.5% consisted of three or more pages. The average visits per day to the website were 2,075, staying an average of 3:25 minutes. About 91% of the visits were from the United States. Of these visits, 36% were from Washington, 23% were from Oregon, 8% were from California and 7% were from Idaho. About 90% of the visits from the U.S. were from commercial and network domain types with the remaining 10% from organizations, government, educational and military domain types. The average number of visits during weekdays was 2,243, while the average number of visits during the weekend was 1,663. The most active day of the week is Thursday, while the least active day of the week is Saturday. March was the busiest month with 50% of the visits, followed by February with 26% of the visits and lastly January with 24% of the total visits from the first quarter of The top requested page was the Daily Adult Salmon Dam Count Report. Of the top 70 requested pages and queries, 69.7% were about adult salmon, 17.7% were about FPC and the website (includes FPC homepage, contact, site map, FAQ, FPAC links, etc ), 6.3% were about river queries (flow / spill report, temperature graphs, spill update, etc ), 2.1% were about smolt data, 1.4% were about hatchery data, 1.2% were about FPC documents, 1% were about CSS data and reports and.6% were about spawning data. With log analyzer, we can track the number of page views on the dynamic web queries which are a measure of the data requests via the website (i.e..asp,.aspx,.php, etc). During the first quarter of 2011, there were 64,863 total data requests.

25 Manage and Administer projects During this quarter, FPC staff worked with PSMFC and state subcontractors on work statements and budgets for the Smolt Monitoring Program (SMP) for FPC staff updated all Pisces requirements for the 2011 SMP. In addition the FPC began working with the CSS Oversight Committee on the organization and logistics for the CSS 2011 workshop. The FPC staff also completed the organization of the CSS Annual Review during this quarter. FPC staff attended a seminar on the use of the PSMFC Navivision accounting software. Produce status reports All Pisces status report requirements were met for the SMP, CSS and FPC projects for this quarter. Produce annual progress reports. All Pisces progress reports were completed successfully for the Comparative Survival Study, the Smolt Monitoring Program and the Fish Passage Center projects. During this quarter, the FPC staff completed the data summaries, graphics and analyses required for the CSS Annual Report. Regional Coordination, Fishway Inspections/FPAC Fish facilities inspection reports were consolidated and the draft Annual Fish Facilities Inspection Report was posted to the FPC web site on March 3, 2011 for regional review. Comments are due by May 1, In addition FPC staff accompanied state, tribal and federal fishery managers on inspections of all the federal mainstem hydroelectric projects on the Snake and Columbia River, to review existing experimental adult lamprey passage facilities and to ascertain future necessary modifications required establishing lamprey passage facilities at all projects.
