2 INDIA FITNESS & WELLNESS EXPO INTRODUCTION Rising affluence levels, globalization & access to information on healthy lifestyles are catalyzing a noticeable shift towards FIT & HEALTHY lifestyles in Urban India. A burgeoning middle-class in the country with rising disposable incomes has fueled the demand for fitness and wellness products and services. Large multinational corporations have also realized the growing need for employee health and welfare. A desire to inculcate beneficial wellness practices into employees lifestyles by companies across sectors has resulted in a new breed of corporate clients for fitness and wellness players. The growing consciousness among the Indian population about staying healthy and fit has become a key driver for growth in the wellness & fitness industry. It is very common these days to see multiple world-class gymnasiums, fitness chains, spas & wellness centres in urban neighborhoods, hotels, & resorts. Fitness centres in workplaces, educational institutions and private residential properties are also on the rise. A trade fair in India that caters to this burgeoning industry is the need of INDIA FITNESS & the hour. 3 FITNESS The overall fitness and wellness market in India is estimated at US$2.1billion and wellness services alone comprise 40% of this market. The fitness industry market in India, is expected to reach US$2.4 billion by It is stated to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 50%. Presently, there are over 21,000 health and wellness centers across India, and the number is growing each day. Martial Arts More youngsters in urban areas are taking to learning and practicing martial arts for defense, better stability, mental health and to improve their confidence levels. With increasingly stressful lives and long working hours leading to sedentary lifestyles, there is a need to develop the right work-life balance for youngsters today. With traditional martial art forms like kalaripayuttu and modern martial arts like kick-boxing gaining in popularity, India is turning to self-defense as a means of fitness. While earlier the ratio of women-to-men learning karate was 10:90; today camps and classes all over the city have a lot of women (50 per cent) opting to learn karate or kickboxing. Spa Industry The Indian spa industry already has more than 2,300 spas and is growing at an increasing rate. India now has around major spa centers, most of them in the Southern states of Kerala and Karnataka. With more than 700 spas predicted to open their doors in the next 2-5 years IFW Expo is positioned to play a crucial role in catalyzing the growth of this promising sector. NUTRITION The market for dietary supplements, sports nutrition and weight loss products broadly clubbed under nutraceuticals is gaining in volume. The Indian nutraceuticals market earned revenues of US$1480 million in 2011 and could grow to US$2731 million in 2016, at a CAGR of 13%. Dietary supplements is the largest category, accounting for 64% of the nutraceuticals market, driven primarily by the pharmaceutical sector in the form of vitamin and mineral supplements. Functional foods will be the quickest growing category until 2015, followed by dietary supplements. However, dietary supplements specifically herbal and dietetic supplements will form the biggest window of opportunity for nutraceuticals manufacturers, driven by growing demand from an evolving consumer base. WELLNESS The wellness industry in India has evolved rapidly from its nascent unstructured beginning in the early 1990s to a comprehensive ecosystem today. This ecosystem comprises consumers, providers, adjunct industries, facilitators and the Government. Adjunct industries healthcare, real estate, media, retail, gaming, hospitality and education are converging on the wellness space to capitalize on its growth. Wellness industry in India in 2011 grew by 16.9% generally driven by the urban population majorly within the age group of years, especially the working professionals. Wellness industry is now anticipating the inflow of several foreign wellness chains in the form of franchisees with long term partnerships or alliances with wellness marketing institutions present in India.
