2 1. Click the Searches and Printing button 2. For this example we will use the Park search 3. We are searching for the park named Candy Cane Park. Start by typing in the park name. A list of parks will show up. You can click one of the parks from the list (EG. Candy Cane Park). 4. Click Map It

3 The map view will move over to the location of the park, with the park located in the centre of the screen. 5. You will notice that the park name is displayed in the left-hand window. Click on the park name in the left-hand window. 6. When we click the park name in the left-hand window the park is highlighted in yellow on the map. Details of the park are displayed in the left-hand window and we have the option to Zoom to Feature or Pan. Since we are already zoomed to and paned to the park, clicking these buttons now will not do anything. We will revisit these buttons shortly. The Pan Button 7. At this time we may want to explore the area around the park. We have the option to move the map view, or pan, by clicking the Pan button on the top tool bar. Click the Pan button on the top tool bar then click the map, holding the left mouse button down. Move your mouse around to move the map. The Zoom In and Zoom Out Buttons

4 8. It might be nice to view a larger or smaller area on the map. We can do this by zooming in or zooming out. There are a number of ways to zoom in and out. a) Click the Zoom Out button in the top tool bar then click the map, hold the mouse button down and draw a rectangle on the map to zoom out. Note: Alternatively, clicking the Zoom In button in the top tool bar and drawing a rectangle on the map will zoom in. b) Click the plus + button on the top-left corner of the map. This will zoom in one level. Note: Alternatively, clicking the minus - button on the top-left corner of the map will zoom out one level. Pan and Zoom to Feature in Left-Hand Window 9. We can now go back and explore the Pan and Zoom to Feature buttons in the left-hand window. Click Pan in the left-hand window. The map will move with the park centered in the map view. The map scale remained unchanged. 10. Now click the Zoom to Feature button in the left-hand window. The map zooms into the park. Initial Extent and Full

5 Extent Buttons 11. We have the option to return to the original map view when we opened up Explore Oakville (initial extent). Click the Initial Extent button in the top tool bar. 12. We have the option to view all features on the map, the full extent of the map, by clicking on the Full Extent button in the top tool bar. 13. That concludes the tutorial on Searching and Map Navigation. Notes: TIPS: We can also zoom in and out on the map by using the scroll wheel on the mouse, for those mice that have scroll wheels.
