Falcons Phys. Ed. Assessment Categories Your grade in phys. ed. reflects your physical literacy. Physically literacy involves developing the knowledge, skills and attitudes desire, confidence, motivation necessary to enjoy a lifetime of good health and an active, fulfilling lifestyle. 1. Physical Skill Acquisition 35% PE General Outcome A - Student demonstrates competence, confidence, creativity, and/or strategy in the performance of a variety of movements across a wide variety of physical activities in multiple environments. E.g. - volleyball forearm pass rubric, basketball lay-up analytic rating scale, dance project performance assessment, etc. 2. Personal Accountability and Social Cooperation 50% PE General Outcomes B Student demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of the health benefits that result from physical activity. components of fitness, fitness levels, motivation, goal-orientation, cognitive understanding PE General Outcome C - Student demonstrates the social-emotional skills to interact positively, cooperatively, and collaboratively as it relates to participation in various activity dimensions in multiple environments. communication, leadership/followership, conflict resolution, problem solving, collaborative skills, etc. PE General Outcome D Student demonstrates the knowledge, motivation and attitudes necessary to assume personal responsibility and accountability for his/her own health and wellness. effort, engagement, participation, attitude, impulsivity control, attitude, etc. 3. Preparedness and Safety 15 % Following routines for Preparedness and Safety are foundational principles fundamental for success across all PE Outcomes and activity dimensions. daily preparedness checkpoints, safety routines, respect for self and others
EAMS General PE Rules Please! Stay off all equipment unless otherwise instructed. Do not re-enter dressing rooms after class begins w/out permission. No gum in Phys. Ed. Other than a water bottle, leave all food and drinks in locker. No Jewelry! (P.E. Teachers will not hold any items) No more than 5 mins to change. (Don t wait for late friends!) When dismissed early to change, wait in gym for bell. Both gyms and all locker rooms are out of bounds during recess unless supervised. Please do not cut through the gymnasium to get to another class. Showers are not to be used for regular P.E. classes (not enough time); therefore, showers should never need to be turned on! The stage is an out of bounds area (unless given permission and are supervised by a teacher). Additional, unit-specific safety rules will be added in various PE modules.
Routines Routines will vary depending on unit and the teacher of the module. Students will need to adapt to a variety of routines throughout the year. 1. Get Changed no matter what! 3-5 mins 2. Sit in assigned area (or follow unit routines) 5 mins Preparedness mark taken Hint: don t be late; don t touch any equipment that s set-up; and do not ask about or suggest which activity should be played today J 3. Group Discussion 5 mins Lesson outcomes/objectives, directions 4. Warm-up 5 mins Light run or dynamic/sport specific warm-up Strength exercises Instant Activity or Game 5. Activity 25 mins Drills, skill practice, lead-up games/activities 6. Evaluation and Cool-down 2-5 mins When necessary/required 7. Change 3-5 mins Wait in gym for bell; then move quickly to next class
Preparedness Being prepared with proper gym strip and footwear is for hygiene, safety, and to promote freedom of movement. Your Safety and Preparedness makes up 15% of your mark! Since a preparedness grade is taken in the first 5 minutes of each class, a students grade will be affected each time they are unprepared for class. Students who are late will lose the day s preparedness credit. Gym Strip means something different depending on the activity, time of year, and the location of your current phys. ed. rotation. 1. Clothing Indoor Tops o must wear a different top than you ve worn during the course of the day. o Should allow free-movement, meet school dress code. Good: cotton or polyester T-shirt or athletica wear (e.g. Lululemon) Bad: blouses, spaghetti strap tank tops, etc. Bottoms o Shorts, sweats, athletica wear etc. (no jeans, skirts, or dresses; avoid shorts with zippers/studs/etc.) o must wear a different bottom than you ve worn during the course of the day. Outdoor Again, we are an outdoor PE school. You are still expected to wear appropriate clothing for activity when at the outdoor station. Warm weather (e.g. above 7-8 C), it is expected that you change into your indoor gym strip, plus hoodie or light jacket if necessary. Cold weather (e.g. below 7-8 ) you are still encouraged to change into sweats/hoodie, but you may wear the clothing you wore to school (jeans, ok. Dresses/skirts, not!) if permitted by whomever is teaching your outdoor rotation. 2. Footwear Indoor Running shoes with non-marking soles! No sandals, high-heeled runners, or boots of any kind! Outdoor Depends on weather and activity. Usually running shoes, but on occasion winter boots are most appropriate. (Ummmm... no snow on ground = no need for winter boots!) Gym strip may be brought from home or purchased from the school. This year, gym strip can only be purchased at our online store: This link can be found on our school website: Not sure what size you are? Item samples are available to try on at the office through Mrs. Twomey. Please try to order gym strip before Sept. 18 in order to speed up delivery.
Exemptions Regular participation is mandatory in physical education in Alberta. Generally, students will not be permitted to sit on the stage and do homework or read! Short Term Exemptions (1-3 Classes) First of all CHANGE! Then, bring note to teacher and they will determine what part of the class you might be able to assist or participate in. (If you have a cold or feel flu-ish, please bring sweatpants and a sweatshirt so that you will not get chilled). Long Term Exemptions (4 or more classes)* Not usually required to change. Doctor s note is required. During P.E. such a student would then be required to do any rehab./physio. Exercises prescribed by doctor or therapist. Alternate assignments will also be assigned. * Note Asthma is generally not acceptable as a long term exemption. Inhalers must be brought to every P.E. class! Forgotten Gym Strip? Borrow from a younger/older sibling or friend in another class before your phys. ed. class begins or keep 2 pairs in locker! Label it!! Label gym strip and any personal equipment brought from home (e.g. ball glove, hockey stick, skates, badminton racquets, etc.)
