1 STATIC EXHIBITS CLASS 5 Lot 1 County Best of Show Exhibit Display will consist of any number of entries that were exhibited at county fair or achievement days. Displays will be judged on creativity, variety of projects represented and over-all appearance. Counties will be responsible for setting up their own display. All participants will receive an award with the winner receiving a traveling trophy. ALL STATIC EXHIBITS MUST BE EXHIBITED IN A COUNTY DISPLAY GRASS & GRAIN CLASS6 Variety must be listed 2 Quarts will be standard measures for all grains 1 Quart for small seeds (Grasses & Legumes) Standard Measure Must Be Used Grains must be exhibited in a one gallon container Lot 1 Wheat (hard red spring wheat, hard red winter wheat) Lot 2 Durum Lot 3 Barley Lot 4 Oats Lot 5 Flax Lot 6 Corn (ten ears) Lot 7 Specialty Crops Lot 8 Forage Lot 9 Others Samples of any of the following forages: mixed prairie hay, crested wheat grass hay, western wheat grass hay, oat hay, alfalfa hay, sweet clover hay, cornfodder, sudan grass and others must be in sheaves not less than 2 ½ to 3 inches in diameter or in bales containing at least one cubic foot. ARTS & CRAFTS CLASS 10 Must be enrolled in Arts & Crafts or Stated Identical Project State information or steps related to the project Lot 1 Plastics (any article where plastic is the main material) Lot 2 Leathercraft (must be hand stamped, carved or tooled articles; machine stamped or lacing only articles are not acceptable) Lot 3 Soft Leather (vests, weskirts, chaps, skirts, dresses, jumpers, shirts, jackets, coats, robes, capes, moccasins, boots, purses, hat or pants). Leather substitutes or pre-cut leather kits are not acceptable. Lot 4 Metal Craft (metal etching, engraving, modeling, enameling, sculpturing and wire or sheet metal jewelry Lot 5 Glass (beadwork, stenciling, etching, stained glass) Lot 6 Ceramics (articles shaped by hand or in a mold; fired or non-fired clays with fired or non-fired finishes. Plaster of Paris and similar media may be included.) Lot 7 Paintings and Drawings (free hand oil or water color paintings; number paintings, sketches or drawings using various media such as charcoal, pencil, pen, char-oil, chalk, etc.) Lot 8 Textiles the design of the fabric can be changed in a structural or decorative manner (examples include: quilting, braiding, appliqué, and tie-dye) Lot 9 Fiber (A fiber is a thread or something capable of being spun into a continuous thread. The threads can be twisted or woven together to produce a visual art form. Examples include: macramé, knitting, crocheting, weaving, tatting, latch hook, needlepoint, embroidery, creative stitchery.) Lot 10 Natural Materials (use items found outdoors, such as sand, rocks, pine cones, beeswax, seeds and corn husks, feathers, horn bone. NO KITS ALLOWED.) Lot 11 Glue solution (non sewing techniques on fabric over ½ finished article must be fabric Lot 12 Paper (paper is the basis for creating a decorative projects) Lot 13 Other crafts (original or kit) not listed in any above lots ENTOMOLOGY CLASS 11

4 HOME LIVING/HOME MANAGEMENT CLASS 17 Note: Flower arrange under Horticulture Lot 1 Placemats or lunch cloth (two placemats or one lunch cloth without napkin) Lot 2 Extras for your room Lot 3 Pillow for any center Lot 4 Centerpiece-arrangement for any occasion and any setting Lot 5 Storage item (suitable for storing items such as: clothing, food, laundry, toys, sewing supplies, shoes, recipes, book cover) Lot 6 Wall hanging (ready to hang) Lot 7 Home living portfolio, poster, chart, folder or exhibit Lot 8 Activity Centers: eating, work, living center, family center, or bathroom (shall consist of two differently constructed or finished articles showing different techniques. No major furniture.) Lot 9 Bedspread, window treatment Lot 10 Refinished, finished or re-upholstered piece of furniture Lot 11 Let s Go Shopping (comparative buying). Make a comparative cost study of an item related to the home. Exhibit in file folder or on two 8 ½ x 11 inch poster boards taped together. Lot 12 Camping exhibit Lot 13 Other Home Living exhibits Lot 14 Becoming Money Wise Lot 15 Education Poster/Display CHILD DEVELOPMENT CLASS 18 Please state age of child each exhibit is made for and indicate for each article what it contributes to the development of the child on the entry tag. Lot 1 Infant, toddler, or pre-school handbook or portfolio Lot 2 Game, puzzle, toy book, folder, notebook, or piece of furniture Lot 3 Kit of 3 to 5 articles for children s play. At least 3 of these should be in a suitable container for carrying. On the exhibit card, indicate for each article, the age of the child for whom you made or selected the article and how the article contributes to the development of the child. Lot 4 Other FOOD & NUTRITION CLASS 19 Note: All exhibits must be accompanied by a recipe card, to include both ingredients and preparation method. All food products should be removed from pans, placed on cardboard or paper plates and put into plastic bags (zip lock or closed with a twist fastener). Please do not use plastic wrap to cover food items. Lot 1 Cookie (baked) a) Bar (may have frosting, may have nuts) 3 in exhibit b) Drop (may have frosting, may have nuts) 3 in exhibit c) Refrigerator (no frosting, may have nuts) 3 in exhibit d) Molded (no frosting, may have nuts) 3 in exhibit e) Pressed (no frosting, no nuts) 3 in exhibit f) Rolled and cut (no frosting, no nuts) 3 in exhibit Lot 2 Cakes a) Sponge, Angel Food (no frosting, glaze or nuts) exhibit out of pan and unpeeled b) One-layer cake (no commercial mix). A cake made showing creaming process. Exhibit must be a layer, using an 8 or 9 inch round layer pan, but not a layer cake. May be frosted or unfrosted. May have nuts. c) Bundt cake (may be any kind using a Bundt cake pan; no commercial mix). May be frosted or unfrosted, may have nuts. Lot 3 Quick Breads a) Biscuits; 3 in exhibit b) One loaf quick bread (no frosting, may have nuts) c) Muffins; 3 in exhibit

5 Lot 4 Yeast Breads a) 1 loaf white yeast bread (give method) b) 1 loaf dard bread c) Rolls; 3 in exhibit d) Sweet Rolls; 3 in exhibit e) 1 loaf made with automatic bread machine Lot 5 Foods & Nutrition posters, portfolio, chart, two-way folder or exhibit Lot 6 Fun with Convenience Foods (No custards or cream-type products due to food poisoning risk. Must be a food which can be served cold, not a quick bread or type that needs to be served hot). This is the place to use commercial mixes. This exhibit does not have to be the 4-H ers own original recipe. It may be a product made from a recipe which a commercial mix company has put out using their convenience foods. May be frosted, and may have nuts. Lot 7 Nationality Foods a) Bread (1 loaf) b) Cookies (3 items) c) Pastries (3 items) Lot 8 Recipe Adaptation Cookie use any cookie recipe. Change recipe to improve the nutritional quality of the recipe. On a 3x5 card, explain why the changes improved nutrition. Attach original recipe and explain changes. No worksheet is required. Lot 9 Outdoor Eating (beef jerky, fruit leather, etc.) Lot 10 Microwave projects Lot 11 Dairy exhibit (food, poster, educational display) Lot 12 Other FOOD PRESERVATION CLASS 20 Lot 1 Let s Put it in the Freezer (open exhibit) Lot 2 Dried Fruit Lot 3 Dried Vegetables Lot 4 Fruit and/or vegetable leather Lot 5 Jerky Canning A food preservation label must be used for each jar in the exhibit. The label must be attached to either the entry tag or the jar with the following information: Name County Contents Method of processing (pressure or hot water bath) Time Method of preparation (raw, hot pack, or other) Year Altitude Jar must be standard and clear glass and sealed with a standard lid. Jars may be either quarts or pints. The product must be processed by required time and method (pick up time tables at the Extension office). Tomatoes may be either classified as fruits or vegetables. Exhibits will be disqualified if not labeled with correct time, method and altitude. If product is under processed, it will receive a white ribbon.
