2 About Us Founded by the team that introduced Ladies Learning Code in 2011, HackerYou offers organizations cutting-edge development and design training from industry-leading professionals. We ve had enormous success running Ladies Learning Code workshops this past year. Since August 2011, over 3000 women (and men) have participated in one of our one day workshops in Toronto, Vancouver and Ottawa. 5 Workshops Web Development (with HTML5 & CSS3) HTML and CSS are the backbone of all websites, and knowledge of them is a necessity if you are interested in things like web development, creating marketing s, or even blogging! The web without HTML and CSS would be would be a world without colourful, pretty websites, not to mention the web applications we all use daily. How to use HTML5 & CSS3 and a text editor to create multi-page sites How HTML & CSS work together to create richer online experiences Basic concepts translatable to other programming languages What resources are available if you d like to continue learning at home A built-from-scratch website with text, images, video, and CSS-defined layout and styles WordPress WordPress started as a blogging platform, but has evolved to be used as a full content management system and so much more through the thousands of plugins, widgets, and themes. This workshop will introduce your employees to skills needed to dig into the code to get the most out of WordPress. 6 Workshops Mobile Development (with HTML5 & CSS3) Mobile usage has increased to a point where it can no longer be ignored. Now, when we create for the web, we must also consider the implications for mobile devices and mobile experiences. Luckily, the world now has HTML5 and CSS3 modern markup languages built with mobile in mind. This workshop will teach your employees the skills needed to create mobile-friendly websites. How to design for multiple screen sizes How to select content that makes sense for mobile How to use HTML5 & CSS3 to create websites that look great at any size A mobile-friendly website (modified from with a complicated, non-mobile friendly design) User Experience (UX) Websites and applications today have become media-rich and interactive. However, success still hinges on how users perceive and use a website or application. Does this site give me value? Is it easy and pleasant to use? UX design is all about getting users to answer a resounding Yes! and to take the action you want, without even thinking about it. This workshop will help your employees to develop a foundation in user experience design and integrate those principles into their broader work. 7 Workshops Web Design The web has become a place where anyone can explore their creativity and show off a skillset; either through a blog, personal or company website. For anyone who needs to create a new website property, the first question you will always find yourself asking is How do I go about designing a website? Where do I start? And what are the important things to consider? This workshop will give your employees a hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of web design using Photoshop. Introductory design theory and web design fundamentals Grids and layouts, headers, footers and templates How to design a website using Photoshop A fully mocked-up one-page website created using Photoshop Photoshop No matter what stage you re at when it comes to developing your technical skills, you ve probably realized that Microsoft Paint isn t going to cut it forever. Whether you need to crop or resize a photo, want to create a logo for your website, or have a more significant design project in mind, at some point, you re going to need an introduction to Photoshop. This workshops will give your employees a hands-on introduction to Photoshop through four different beginner-level projects that, together, create a branding package that your employees can use personally or professionally. To use some of Photoshop s most important features for design projects Selecting colours, fonts and assets to create a visual identity Introductory visual design fundamentals and theory A personal branding package, elegantly presented on a moodboard
