2 From: U.S. Pakistan Leadership Forum, Convergence Center for Policy Resolution Date: February 14, 2013 Subject: Distance Education Opportunities between United States and Pakistan Introduction The U.S.-Pakistan Leadership Forum (USPLF) recognizes education as sector in which collaboration between American and Pakistani institutions can yield significant positive educational outcomes and improve mutual understanding. The U.S.-Pakistan Leadership Forum has put together a list of credible, cost-effective online dis educational resources and teacher training opportunities offered in the United States which Pakistani educational institutions could access as complementary resources for administrators, teachers and students. The following summary is organized around open courseware opportunities, teacher training resources, online educational exchange platforms and other available resources. A. Open Courseware Opportunities 1. edx-free Online Courses from Top Universities Purpose: A partnership between Harvard, MIT, UC Berkeley, UTexas System, Wellesley College, and Georgetown University Subjects: Courses in Math, Science, Graphic Design and the Liberal Arts Link: 2. Soliya Purpose: Online cross-cultural coursework via video conferencing and other tools Subjects: International Mediation, Media Literacy, Cross-Cultural Understanding, Diplomacy Link: 3. W3 Schools Purpose: Interactive online coursework to teach web-development strategies and coding Subjects: Computer programming, web development, $ for certification 2

Seeks to lower textbook costs for children from underprivileged school districts Subjects: Various Link: 5. Code Year Purpose: Presents interactive and effective lesson plans online to teach both young children and adults to program Subjects: Computer programming Link: 6. OPEN Culture Purpose: Free online courses from top universities Subjects: Math, Sciences, Graphic Design, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Link: 7. Academic Earth Purpose: Offers courses and lectures from Yale, Harvard, Stanford, MIT, UC Berkeley, and Princeton in a user-friendly platform Subjects: Various Link: 8.
