2 Dental Hygiene Research in the World: The research from hygienists for hygienists Inside the Istituto Stomatologico Toscano was born a Research Center on oral hygiene in order to coordinate and stimulate an activity designed to identify and verify new procedures and new materials in this field and so as to test in clinical activities what the marketplace offers. The project of the above mentioned meeting arises because of the creation of this Research Center. The Center, directed by a dental hygienist, also intends to stimulate the growth of a research activity that comes from the dental hygienists and puts itself at the service of the hygienists themselves. And it is just to celebrate the birth of the Research Center that the Istituto Stomatologico Toscano wants to organize an International Congress. It has decided to invite the best researchers in the field of dental hygiene, hoping that dental hygienists will draw inspiration, gather collaborations and synergies for a scientific improvement aiming on a return to the clinics everyday life. This is obviously a very ambitious program which, I am sure, the hygienists staff of the Institute will support and my most cordial and affectionate wishes for good work go to them. It is a program which faces in detail the topic of non-surgical treatment of periodontal disease. This depth of content makes that the invitation is also extended to dentists, especially since, in my opinion, the ultimate responsibility lies in their diagnosis and treatment and indispensable as well in the organization of teamwork.
