3 Applicatin Requirements T apply fr a secndary educatin teaching credential fr the Scial Sciences in the State f Califrnia, a teacher candidate must first demnstrate subject matter cmpetency. This can be dne in tw ways: (1) by successfully passing all three sectins f the Califrnia Subject Exam fr Teachers (CSET); r (2) by cmpleting the Subject Matter Cmpetency Requirements in the Scial Sciences fr Prspective Secndary Educatrs at Califrnia State University, Nrthridge. Fr CSUN students, successful cmpletin f the fllwing requirements allws the teacher candidate t waive taking the CSET Exam and better prepares them fr the rigrs f teaching in bth middle schl and high schl classrms: 1) Yu must cmplete all frty- five units (45) f prescribed cursewrk as defined by the Cursewrk Requirements fr the Scial Science Subject Matter Prgram handut. 2) Yu must earn a minimum, verall GPA f 3.0 (n a 4.0 scale) and receive NO grade belw a C in ALL cursewrk in the frty- five unit (45) Scial Science Subject Matter Prgram. 3) Yu must submit a cmplete Prgram Prtfli that is evaluated as either acceptable r excellent by a faculty cmmittee. This cmmittee is appinted by the Cllege f Scial and Behaviral Sciences. 4) Yu must apply fr, and receive subject matter clearance frm the SSSMP Prgram Directr thrugh the Scial Science Subject Matter Prgram Office. Appintments fr Advisement The Cllege f Scial and Behaviral Sciences schedules all appintments fr subject matter advisement thrugh the Histry Department Office, lcated in Sierra Twer n the 6th flr. The ffice is pen year- rund (frty hurs per week, Mnday thrugh Friday). Yu can call the ffice at any time and leave a message.
