PMMI has partnered with the University of Florida to develop a series of E-Learning courses focused on packaging machinery basics. Using PMMI s popular technical training manual series as the backbone, PMMI is bringing the content of these textbooks to life using simulation, video and other interactive media to enhance the learning experience. The first course will come online early in TROUBLESHOOTING INDUSTRIAL MACHINERY Coming Online Q In many ways, the job of the machinery troubleshooter is similar to that of a doctor. Both must identify a trouble spot, find its causes and take steps to correct the situation without causing further damage or difficulty. In addition, both frequently work with a minimum of information and usually need an answer quickly. When a troubleshooter replaces the wrong parts, he/she wastes time, money and production potential without correcting the problem. Good troubleshooting requires analysis of the problem to find out what is wrong before action is taken to try to make corrections. There is a series of simple questions that any troubleshooter can ask to help find a more direct solution to any problem. This online course will take the student through a series of interactive exercises designed to provide you the opportunity to practice asking these questions and sharpen troubleshooting skills. PMMI U s Certificates are designed to elevate professional standards, enhance individual performance and designate packaging professionals who demonstrate the skills to be successful in this dynamic industry. RISK ASSESSMENT CERTIFICATE: MEETING GLOBAL STANDARDS Risk assessment is now required by the ANSI/PMMI B155.1 standard in addition to the requirement for CE certification. PMMI has responded to this requirement by offering a Risk Assessment Certificate Program. The Certificate is awarded to those who successfully complete the hands-on risk assessment training workshop, held in various locations throughout the year. Check out for the 2009 Workshop schedule. Program Objective The 2-day interactive workshop is designed to educate packaging professionals on how to conduct a risk assessment and introduce them to the PackSafe software. Participants will be able to use the risk assessment process to identify and evaluate hazards and evaluate and reduce the risk associated with the hazard. Participants are encouraged to bring their own examples to be assessed, and after completing the course, will be able to conduct a complete, documented risk assessment. Packaging professionals will also gain insight into how risk assessment is deployed in an organization, resulting in gaining a competitive advantage. The deployment methods used by other PMMI members, along with their challenges and successes are shared. Who Should Attend? The program is open to equipment suppliers and end users. Attendees may include engineering managers and engineers and personnel responsible for health and safety and management safety responsible for CE compliance, product safety and productivity. Development of the skill standards behind these Certificates is going on now.
