2 Alvarado ISD overview / demographics 3400 students K campus locations ( 3 Elem, 1 Inter, 1 Jr, 1 HS) 70% economically disadvantage Spread across 96 square miles 95% of all classrooms have mounted projectors 95% of all classrooms have interactive whiteboards 95% of all classrooms have document cameras 1/3 rd of student population has laptops ( all students grades 4-8) 9-12 graders BYOT environment

4 One to One timeline 2007 Start expansion of wireless network across district Implementation of sets of 4 laptops for every 4 th grade classroom 2008 Expand Instructional Technology department Finish wireless expansion district wide Establish self-maintainer and HP certified technical staff Expanded classroom laptop sets to 3 rd and 2 nd grade 2009 Roll out of over 750 laptops to all 4 th,5 th and 6 th grade classrooms Finalization of take home procedures Establish and refine classroom and campus management plans Deploy Dyknow software to expand management and collaboration Training Training Training Implemented class sets of laptops10 for all math and science classrooms Roll out 580 laptops to grades 7 th and 8th 2011 High school students BYOD The road to 1:1 / BYOD

5 So why start in Intermediate school? Gives us more ability to track results Start with younger students so we can impact future testing and learning Students adapt quicker to the overall environment Ability to grow program much easier

6 Constant usage monitoring and polling Teachers and students are surveyed twice a year on usage and integration of the devices into the curriculum. Anonymous surveys allowing for true feedback Questions on technical issues and support General feedback on products The road to 1:1 / BYOD

8 Program built on building of responsibility with technology and transforming into the complete ownership of the learning process. You re already BYOD at your district, you just don t want to admit it.

( Campus has 1,000 students, 250 laptops for checkout if needed) Majority of devices currently used on district BYOD network are smartphones.
