Qualifications: Master s Degree in Forestry or related field, with emphasis on economics/finance; experience and understanding of alternative silviculture, non-timber forest products and ecosystem services; demonstrate multi-tasking abilities; must exhibit excellent computer and communication skills. Forest Products Technical Specialist Responsibilities: Provide technical assistance for customer-based projects focused on strengthening firms in the Pennsylvania forest products industry based in north-central Pennsylvania with statewide responsibilities. Qualifications: Business experience related to forest products value-added processing, Bachelor s Degree in Wood Science or Forest Products Technology or seven years technical experience and knowledge of forest products, modern manufacturing concepts, processes, markets and business systems.
3 Forest Regeneration Manager Responsibilities: Supervise and train forest regeneration/tree improvement specialists in all areas of forest regeneration and tree improvement operations. Establish programs to accomplish assigned goals and objectives; coordinate the work of the forest regeneration/tree improvement staff and assign priorities. Assist in the development of forest regeneration/tree improvement budget; develop and evaluate employee work performance; work closely with various agricultural agencies, local groups and organizations providing information and advice on seedling selection and other important regeneration information. Qualifications: Bachelor s Degree in Forestry, Agronomy, Horticulture or Botany and three years employment in bareroot seedling regeneration or forest tree improvement, including two years in a supervisory capacity; knowledge of silvicultural requirements of species grown. Forest Regeneration Specialist Responsibilities: Perform specialized work in tree nursery. Collect and clean seeds from forest trees and shrubs. Apply fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides and fungicides. Plant, cultivate and harvest nursery trees and shrubs; operate farm machinery to plow, disc and harrow seed beds and plant seeds; graft scion from specific clones of pine and other trees; supervise field personnel; maintain necessary records of time, materials and supplies used and of work performed. Qualifications: Bachelor s Degree in Forestry; skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others; ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; knowledge of forest regeneration and/or tree improvement operations. Forest Technician Responsibilities: Perform a wide variety of technical forestry assignments under the direction of a professional forester. Assist in performing timber stand analysis; examine and mark trees to calculate timber volume; mark timber for removal; assist in laying out timber sales; conduct surveys; prepare maps for timber sales; assist in controlling forest diseases and insects; assist in forest fire prevention and suppression. Qualifications: Associates Degree in Forestry with experience in logging supervision, timber marking, cruising and boundary line work.
4 Forester Responsibilities: Prepare forest product management operations for contractors by surveying forested lands to determine natural resource inventories, marking trees to be harvested and computing volumes and cost estimates in order to maintain and increase the health and vigor of forested lands. Monitor and assure compliance of timber harvesting contractors, forestry consultants and all applicable state and federal laws by observing contractor operations and harvesting results. Determine necessary enforcement actions on public and private forestlands; prepare contracts for the sale of forest products, conduct silvicultural activities and develop road construction and maintenance projects in the forestry district. Qualifications: Bachelor s Degree in Forestry or related field; two years experience in the field of forest resource management; knowledge of the principles, techniques, terminology and standard abbreviations associated with forest resource management, watershed management and silviculture; familiarity with the operation of personal computers; excellent communication skills. Forestry Technician Responsibilities: Independently apply silvicultural prescriptions and marking guides to designate harvest timber. Mark and estimate volumes of trees to be sold and select individual trees to be harvested or left, based on a wide variety of resource protection guidelines and using various cutting methods. Lay out and mark cutting boundaries in accordance with approved management plans; traverse harvest unit boundaries using electronic data collection devices; recognize and determine threatened and endangered species habitat. Qualifications: One year related experience or a Bachelor s Degree in Forestry, Forestry Management, Agriculture or related field. Hardwood Lumber Inspector Sawmill and pallet manufacturer has employment opportunity for a lumber inspector. Experience helpful but we are willing to train a highly motivated individual. 5 Hydrologist Responsibilities: Plan, conduct and report on assigned parts of a ground-water supply. Study, collect, compile, and analyze complex hydrogeologic data relating to the characterization of the ground-water system. Determine apparent reasons for data anomalies and correlate a wide variety of factors that affect the information presented; prepare reports clearly presenting scientific findings, interpretations and conclusions; communicate results of data analysis to project chief, other hydrologists and cooperators. Qualifications: Bachelor s Degree in Physical Science, Natural Science or Engineering. Exhibit knowledge of ground-water hydrology. Ability to apply geologic knowledge to the description and definition of ground-water reservoirs; ability to apply computer techniques to data analysis and problem solving; formal training and knowledge of traditional, as well as, more-recently developed methods of ground-water-level data collection and analysis; ability to work under pressure. Land Steward Responsibilities: Conduct trail construction and maintenance; firebreak construction; assist on burn crew, boundary posting, trash removal, and installation and maintenance of off-road-vehicle barricades. Qualifications: Must have current driver s license. Demonstrate ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle, perform physically demanding work and pass a physical fitness test. Experience required with use and maintenance of chainsaw and weed whacker. Show ability to navigate using a topographic map, work well independently in a remote, outdoor setting and willingness to travel extensively and work at least one weekend day per month; ability to communicate clearly and professionally with the public. Logger Owner Operator Log on company owned wood. Year-round work. Planer Operator Planer operator position available with a progressive, high quality lumber mill. We are looking for an honest, company-minded individual with solid experience, excellent work ethic and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Must have three years experience operating a planer in a softwood lumbermill environment, excellent mechanical skills and favorable references within the industry. Ability to apply geologic knowledge to the description and definition of groundwater reservoirs; ability to apply computer techniques to data analysis and problem solving; formal training and knowledge of traditional, as well as, more-recently developed methods of ground-water-level data collection and analysis; ability to work under pressure.
6 Procurement Forester Responsibilities: Procurement of standing timber on public and private land for sawlogs, pulpwood and clean chips. Duties include overseeing entry level procurement foresters, scheduling cuttings, checking on cuts in progress, and coordinating wood flow with mill procurement people. Qualifications: Must have good communication skills and be able to locate, cruise and tally timber stands, run lines and locate road and landing sites. Prefer someone with a four-year Degree in Forestry who is able to register in Pennsylvania. SFI training a plus. Regional Forester Responsibilities: Oversee the management of extremely complex natural resources and human resource issues. Lead the regional workforce to effectively achieve goals of watershed health, sustainable forest management, forest roads management, and quality recreational experiences. Build and foster productive relationships with the state, federal, congressional, conservation, and community leaders to effectively meet goals. Qualifications: Bachelors Degree; knowledge of natural resource/ecosystem programs, methods, and practices. Knowledge of the laws, acts and regulations that guide public natural resource management activities; ability to explain, advocate and express facts and ideas in a convincing manner; ability to develop and implement an organizational vision which integrates key program goals, priorities, values and other factors. Research Forester Responsibilities: Develop and apply inventory and monitoring techniques for efficient assessment of the extent, condition, use and trends of resources in the complex ecosystems on more than one million acres. Qualifications: Ability to analyze and interpret data and report results from forest inventories at multiple scales such as at the stand, watershed and landscape level; skill in supervisory functions a must. Sawmill Foreman Well-established wood turning company seeks experienced sawmill foreman for a new state-of-the-art hardwood sawmill. Responsibilities include scheduling, logyard work, dry kilns, inventory control, material management, sales, controlling costs and operating budget. Technical experience using bandsaws a plus. Sawyer Experienced sawyer required to operate a sawmill for flitch veneer logs. First shift. Sawyer Dependable person for automatic mill with vertical ledger. Must be able to operate debarker.
7 Soil Conservation Technician Responsibilities: Gather necessary data for development of land management systems in accordance with planning standards. Conduct surveys; assist with plan preparation; develop planning information in the form of a conservation plan using current agency techniques. Recommend alternative practices and how they can be integrated into a total plan; deliver completed conservation plans to land users. Explain plans in detail; assist with the planning and application of practices in a progressive sequence with land users. Apply soil erosion prediction models. Qualifications: Bachelor s Degree in Forestry, Range Management, Agriculture, or related field; knowledge of natural resource conservation principles, programs, techniques, methods, and practices of agronomic and engineering practices; knowledge of clerical and administrative support procedures. Supervisory Outdoor Recreation Planner Responsibilities: Serve as principal assistant to the district ranger in a national forest. Responsible for effectiveness of the district recreation, wildlife, minerals and other resource programs, including formulation of goals, objectives, work plans and recreational budget. Responsible for special use administration including wilderness areas, resorts, and recreation residences; administer district visitor education program. Responsible for the district s law enforcement program. Qualifications: Bachelor s Degree in Natural Resource Management, Recreation, or related field and two years related experience. Possess ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; demonstrate multi-tasking abilities. Timber Buyers Experienced buyers of logs, timber and timberland in small, medium or large quantities throughout Pennsylvania. Tree Feller/Cutter Tree feller/cutter wanted. Pay based on experience. 40 hours weekly. Potter County area. Urban Forestry Field Assistant Responsibilities: Assist with field oversight of 45 grant-funded community forestry projects in northeastern Pennsylvania; ensure that all projects comply with the design, quality and standards set by the technical specifications; work closely with the Pennsylvania DCNR, Bureau of Forestry on project oversight. Qualifications: Bachelor s degree in Urban Forestry, Arboriculture or related field and at least two years field experience. Strong tree identification skills; familiar with landscape contracting, construction and planting; knowledge of insects, diseases of trees, and proper pruning techniques; understanding of urban forestry concepts; able to work independently and travel in area; strong communication and writing skills; able to read engineering drawings; computer skills and software knowledge.
8 Veneer Log Buyer One of North America s largest manufacturers of veneer and lumber requires veneer log buyers for the State of Pennsylvania. Potential candidates must have exceptional knowledge of North American hardwood species, be self-motivated and possess strong negotiating and interpersonal skills. Prior experience in procurement or marketing of quality hardwood veneer logs a plus. Woodworker Woodworker needed; machine experience required; previous experience with stairs and rails a plus. Woodworkers/Cabinetmakers Fully experienced and apprentice positions available at our new facility. Wildlife Biologist Responsibilities: Determine, establish and apply biological facts, principles, methods, techniques and procedures necessary for the conservation and management of wildlife resources and habitats. Develop and direct ongoing components of multi-disciplinary forest ecology studies with particular emphasis on those evaluating the impact of management practices on forest systems; develop collaborative research projects with university faculty, U.S. Forest Service researchers and other scientists. Qualifications: Master s Degree in Wildlife or related field and two years related experience; knowledge of wildlife biology; skill in oral and written communication; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to make independent decisions and act decisively.
