Staff members and applied researchers on Insurance Medicine Jac van der Klink, MD, PhD Dr. Jac J.L. van der Klink, occupational physician and psychologist, is professor of Occupational Medicine and head of the section of Community & Occupational Medicine of the Department of Health Sciences, University Medical Center Groningen. He supervises research (PhD) projects in the field of work and health with a focus on healthy and sustainable work participation. He has an expert position on mental health at work and is an advocate of a shift in focus from disability and handicap to ability and participation. He is and has been a member or chairman of various committees in the areas of work, (mental) health and safety, and was involved in the training of occupational health and insurance medicine professionals and the development and authorisation of guidelines. He has chaired the committees that developed guidelines on mental health for occupational physicians and insurance physicians and he has been a member of the committees for general practitioners and other (para)medical professionals (a.o. psychiatrists and psychologists). Moreover, he is member of the health counsel and vice-president of the standard setting body for medical specialists. He is board member of the Knowledge Center of Social Insurance Medicine (KCVG) and involved in the development of a knowledge center for Private Insurance Medicine. Ute Bültmann, PhD Dr. Ute Bültmann is an associate professor at the Department of Health Sciences, Community & Occupational Medicine, of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), University of Groningen in The Netherlands. She holds a MSc in Health Science and a PhD in Epidemiology from Maastricht University in The Netherlands. Her research interests include the epidemiology of work and health, the impact of the psychosocial work environment on workers' health, including mental health, the measurement of health and functioning at work, the prevention of work disability, and stay-at-work processes. She is involved in collaborative research projects on sickness absence, return-to-work and stay-at-work in Denmark and Canada. Bültmann is an Adjunct Scientist at the Institute for Work & Health in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and a member of the Program Executive Committee and mentor in the Work Disability Prevention Strategic Training Program of the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR). She is a member of the Social Security & Health section of the European Public Health Association (organizing the 2011 pre-conference on Challenges in comparative, epidemiological studies of sickness absence in Europe). Bültmann is a Rosalind Franklin Fellowship recipient of UMCG/University of Groningen, focusing on Mental health and work: Towards work disability prevention and a sustainable working life. Sandra Brouwer, PhD Dr. Sandra Brouwer is an assistant professor at the department of Health Sciences, Community & Occupational Medicine, of the University Medical Center Groningen, the Netherlands. She holds a MSc in Human Movement Sciences and a PhD in Medical Science. As a PhD student she conducted psychometric research in the field of low back pain disability and rehabilitation medicine on Functional Capacity Evaluations. Her research interests include labour market participation of vulnerable groups, i.e. the young disabled workers, older workers with chronic diseases, workers on long-term sick-leave and self-employed workers. Main topics: the assessment of work (dis-) ability, the identification of prognostic factors for sustainable return-to-work and healthy work participation. She works in close collaboration with professionals and stakeholders in the fields of insurance medicine and rehabilitation medicine. She is a board member of the Knowledge Center of Social Insurance Medicine (KCVG) and is appointed by the UMCG to lead the development of a knowledge center of the Private Insurance Medicine. 1

2 Jerry Spanjer, MD, PhD Dr. Jerry Spanjer is a Medical Doctor specialized in Insurance Medicine. He has worked for the Dutch Social Security Office for 22 years and combined disability assessments with research, teaching, development of new instruments and policymaking. He developed the Disability Assessment Structured Interview (DASI), an instrument which is now used in the regular education of all insurance physicians. Spanjer currently is combining his work as insurance physician with working as a senior-researcher at the Research Center for Insurance Medicine and teaches at the University in Groningen. His research interests: disability evaluation, delegating tasks to nurse practitioners, illness behaviour. Jan Buitenhuis, MD, PhD Dr. Jan Buitenhuis is a medical doctor, specialized in Insurance Medicine. He is a Registered Medical Adviser (RGA) in private Insurances and holds a PhD in Medical Science (2009). His PhD research consisted of four prospective cohort studies on psychological and other possible prognostic factors for recovery and return to work in patients with whiplash. He works as medical advisor for Univé Insurances and as lecturer and scientist at the Department of Health Sciences of the University Medical Center Groningen. He also teaches at the Netherlands School of Public and Occupational Health. He was member of the committee of the Dutch Institute for Healthcare Improvement CBO, that developed clinical guidelines on the diagnosis and treatment of Whiplash Associated Disorders (WAD), and of the whiplash committee of the Health Council of the Netherlands. He is member and treasurer of the organizing committees of the annual Dutch International Congress on Insurance Medicine (DICIM) and of the 2016 edition of the triennial congress of the International Committee for Insurance Medicine (ICLAM). He is member of several committees in the Dutch Society of Medical Officers in Private Insurances (GAV). In 2011 he was awarded the GAV 'Evert Bosch' price for his scientific achievements. He is appointed by the GAV to lead the development of the knowledge center for Private Insurance Medicine. His research interests focus on medical unexplained and cultural depended syndromes as well as the role of psychological factors like illness beliefs and expectations in recovery and return to work. Bert Cornelius is a practicing insurance physician at the Social Security Institute in the Netherlands. After obtaining his medical degree at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, he specialized and practiced temporarily as a general practitioner. He subsequently specialized in social medicine i.e. occupational and insurance health. He is currently a junior-researcher at the Research Center Insurance Medicine in the Netherlands and conducts a PhD research project at the department of Health Sciences, Community and Occupational Medicine, University Medical Center Groningen, University of Groningen, The Netherlands. The research design is a prospective cohort study with one-year follow up on predictors of long term disability due to mental disorders. To date, he has authored one peer-reviewed publication.
