AMBEDKAR OPEN UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE PROGRAMME IN NGO MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES RELATING TO PROJECT WORK ( Batch) Submission of a Project Report is compulsory to get the Certificate in NGO Management awarded by Dr. BRAOU. This is made compulsory because the students should have some exposure to the structure, management, activities, etc., of an NGO, which will help in their future endeavours. Each of the students has to undertake a Project individually under the supervision of the Head of the NGO selected by him / her and to submit the same following the guidelines stated below. Select any NGO of your choice and select a topic for the Project Work after discussing with them / as per their suggestion. You can either select an NGO and study its functioning on the whole or select a particular project taken up by an NGO in any particular area, like AIDs Control, Medical Camps, Pollution Control, Water Shed Management, Awareness Programs on Health/Education, etc., and analyse the impact of these projects on that area, i.e., what is the development / improvement in that area after the implementation of the project. The projects mentioned above are just for giving an idea to you. Approach an NGO, discuss with them and select a topic as per their nature of operations. Approach any Study Centre of our University, show your Id Card and request the Head of the Centre to suggest a Guide to supervise your Project Work (OR) Any individual either working in or associated with any NGO with required qualification can also act as Guide (OR) Any individual with required qualification can also act as Project Guide (Guide should possess either a Professional Qualification like MBA/MBBS/B. Tech/M. Tech, CA / Law, etc., or should possess M. Phil / Ph. D). Language of Project Report may be English or Telugu. The Project Report shall be typed and hard bounded. The student shall prepare THREE copies of the Report, submit Original Copy to the University, one copy to the NGO (if they want), and keep the remaining copy as Personal Copy for reference. The Project Report shall be submitted on or before 31 st August 2014 at the Study Centre allotted to you. 1

2 If the student, under any circumstances, fail to submit the Project Report before the term-end exams, he /she has to submit the Project Report and in the subsequent years (within the time period as per University Rules). The length of the Project Report should be of pages (Excluding appendices). THE COMPONENTS OF A PROJECT REPORT: The outcome of Project Work is the Project Report. A project report should have the following components: a. COVER PAGE: In the format as prescribed in its contents must strictly be adhered (Annexure I). b. CERTIFICATE FROM ORGANIZATION: Project Work completion certificate issued by NGO concerned on Original Letter Pad mentioning Title of the project, name and admission number of the student duly signed by the competent authority of the Organization. c. CERTIFICATE FROM THE GUIDE: In the format as prescribed in its contents must strictly be adhered and duly signed by the concerned Guide. d. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: It must specify the gratitude offered to the persons concerned instrumental in finalization of the Report e.g. Institute, Parents, Director / Head, Guide, Friends, Peers etc. and it must be signed by the student concerned. e. TABLE OF CONTENTS: Index must be specified with appropriate topics and page numbers as specified. f. Body of the Report: The body of the report should have these four logical divisions: i) Chapter I: Introduction: This will cover the background, rationale/ need / justification, brief review of literature, objectives, methodology (the area of the study, sample, type of study, tools for data collection, and method of analysis), Limitations of the Study, and Chapter Planning. ii) Chapter II: Profile of NGO: When it was established, its objectives, major activities taken up by it, etc. iii) Chapter III: Background of the Topic selected for the Project Work: For iv) eg., AIDs Control, Medical Camps, Pollution Control, etc. Chapter IV: Presentation of Data & Analysis: Using the tools and techniques mentioned in the methodology. v) Chapter V: Findings, Conclusion and Recommendations: In this section, the concluding observations based on the main findings and suggestions are to be provided. g. Bibliography or References: This section will include the list of books and articles which have been used in the project work, and in writing a project report. 2

Annexures: Questionnaires, (if any), relevant reports, etc. The following documents are to be attached, on separate sheets, with the Final Project Report: 1) Certification of the supervisor (Annexure-II) 2) Student s declaration (Annexure-III) 3) Certificate from the Competent Authority of the NGO (Annexure IV) Note: Few students are taking a photocopy of the documents mentioned above, including Annexure I, and keeping the same thing in the report. These formats are given for your reference only. You have to prepare them afresh, without mentioning the Annexure numbers, and keep the same in your report. Annexure IV has to be given either on the letter head of the NGO or in the format given, duly signed and stamped by the Competent Authority, if the letter head is not available. Instructions for typing / DTP of the Report: i. The typing should be done on one side of the paper ii. The font size should be 12 with Times Roman / Arial Format. iii. The Report be typed in 1.5 (one and a half) space. But the references/bibliography shall be typed in a single space. iv. The paper should be A-4 size. 3
