2 Served as education and assessment director for National Science Foundation funded NanoJapan program. NanoJapan is a summer research program that places first and second year science and engineering majors into research labs in Japan. Program includes three-week culture and language orientation and seven week nanotechnology research internship. The NSF grant was renewed for another 5 years in May NanoJapan received the 2008 Andrew Heiskell Award for Innovation in Study Abroad. Rice University, Houston, Texas, July 2001 May 2006 Assistant Dean of Students, Career and International Education Directed Office of International Programs (OIP). Developed and administered strategic plan for OIP. Supervised study abroad advisors. Consulted with faculty regarding development of tailored international education programs. Reviewed risk management policies for international education programs and conducted bi-annual university training workshops for faculty and staff preparing to lead international trips. Coordinated fundraising efforts for study and travel scholarships. Developed and managed all international work programs, including summer internships. Collaborated to author course content with the Rice CONNEXIONS project, in consultation with foreign universities, using open source software. INNOVATE 2006 occurred in Japan and China, and involved 55 students, from 7 countries and 12 universities. Directed Career Services Center (CSC). Developed and administered strategic plan for Career Services Center. Managed transition of campus recruiting database system, and served on national steering committee for system design and development. Coordinated all aspects of advising and selecting students for competitive international scholarships such as the Fulbright, Marshall, Watson, and Rhodes awards ( only). Designed and jointly supervised with senior director in Office of Resource Development a student affairs staff position to direct fundraising initiatives ( ). Participated in leadership committee responsible for university renewal of accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges. Assisted academic departments with developing approaches to assess learning outcomes. Advised on the design of Quality Enhancement Plan to implement research-based service learning.
