1 YOE FIRE CO. AMBULANCE SERVICE INC Annual Report 2012 Annual Report Our Resolute Commitment to the Community s Our Resolute Commitment to the Emergency Healthcare Needs Community s Emergency Healthcare Needs
2 Board of Directors From Left to Right: Outgoing President David Wise, EMS Chief Ted Hake, Incoming President Donald Butch Potter Jr., Vice-President Charles Webb, Treasurer Allen Emenheiser, Director Adam Friend, Director Scott Laird and Director Terry Fix. Mission Statement Yoe Fire Company Ambulance Service is committed to providing high-quality emergency medical services to the communities we serve on a twenty-four hour a day basis. 2
3 2012 Report to the Community Greetings, I am honored to have been selected by the Yoe Fire Company Ambulance Service Board of Directors as its new President. Yoe Ambulance is an organization with strong community roots and for the past 40 years has provided prompt, professional emergency medical services (EMS). Yoe Ambulance has evolved throughout its history based on a forward looking assessment of the community s EMS needs. To this end, we have instituted an advanced life support program that staffs our ambulances with highly trained paramedics and established a partnership with Goodwill Fire Company of York Township to station an ambulance in the Spry area to reduce response time. Like other facets of the healthcare system, the EMS industry is experiencing declining reimbursements and increased costs to provide service. We are constantly challenged with how to increase efficiency without sacrificing the quality of our care. With many aspects of the federal Affordable Care Act yet to be implemented, these challenges are likely to be sustained for years to come. The successful EMS organization of the future must be prepared to anticipate and respond to changes in the healthcare system by adopting a philosophy of community-driven EMS. It must be prepared to expand its scope of services beyond that of traditional EMS care; to be proactive, not just reactive. EMS will always be ready to respond in times of crisis, but also must embrace its emerging role in injury and disease prevention and management. With the your continued support, whether responding to a medical emergency, lending support to our fire and law enforcement colleagues or providing other healthcare services, Yoe Fire Company Ambulance Service stands ready, 24 hours a day, to meet the community s needs and expectations. Sincerely, Donald E. Potter, Jr., EMT-Paramedic President/Chief Executive Officer Yoe Fire Co. Ambulance Service Inc. 2
4 2011 REPORT TO Yoe THE Fire COMMUNITY Co. Ambulance Service Inc. I am pleased to present to you Yoe Fire Company Ambulance Service s 2012 report to the community. During 2012, our agency responded to exactly 4,000 requests for emergency ambulance service. Despite issues with stagnant or declining reimbursement from various insurers, our EMS agency has continued to implement proven advances in emergency medical technology and we have not decreased any services. We are truly doing more with less as is evidenced by the following accomplishments: To enhance survival from cardiac arrest we placed three Lucas II automatic CPR devices into service. This device provides consistent high quality uninterrupted CPR to the pulseless patient. In order to better manage all types of cardiac related emergencies and standardize our equipment we purchased two additional Lifepak 15 cardiac monitors. Now all cardiac monitors in use at Yoe are the same state of the art model. Four paramedic shift supervisors were promoted from within our agency to address the need for an additional level of frontline management. Each supervisor is highly experienced in the delivery of EMS and has received formal education in preparation for their new role. The supervisors have improved our ability to respond Ted s to and resolve Letter issues (Include more efficiently photo) and they serve as a front-line resource to all of our staff and public safety colleagues on a 24-hour a day basis. Yoe provided comprehensive proposals for the delivery of emergency medical services to two municipalities within York County. Over 400 citizens participated in blood glucose screening and hypertension screening offered by Yoe Ambulance at community health events. The Board of Directors was expanded from five experienced directors to seven in response to the growth and complexity of our EMS agency and the industry as a whole. Our contract with the Federal Emergency Management Agency for disaster response was renewed, bringing with it the opportunity for Yoe to be better prepared to respond to disasters as part of a federal task-force. Our staff achieved a 91% overall patient satisfaction rating, a significant achievement in light of the very difficult and challenging situations we encounter patients in. Please see page five of this report for an overview of our ongoing efforts to measure patient satisfaction. While many uncertainties lie ahead, I am confident that our agility and resolute commitment to the community s emergency healthcare needs will ensure our EMS agency not only survives, but excels. I welcome any questions or inquires you may have after reviewing this report. Sincerely, Ted Hake B.S., NREMT-Paramedic EMS Chief/Chief Operating Officer Yoe Fire Co. Ambulance Service Inc
