In August, Amber Johansen was hired as Executive Director and Bill Sugg as Director of Campus ministry. In addition, new board members were added including a new chair, and a new ministry board. The executive board meets monthly and the two boards meet jointly once a semester. Both boards are active in decision making, fundraising and oversight of the ministry. With the launching of a new school year, FPTB moved to the HOPE strategy after using the TEAM strategy for 5 years. The HOPE strategy is essentially the same process but with more secular language used to attract un-churched students. In August, faculty sponsors, student leaders, campus coaches and parent partners were trained by Bill Sugg on how to use the new strategy and how to engage students more effectively. Bill 4
5 continues to provide ongoing training to existing clubs, potential and new leaders. He also meets monthly with campus coaches to discuss ways to improve clubs and youth ministry programs. FPTB has also undergone other changes. Amber Johansen has developed new procedures and training for campus coaches which cover molestation and abuse polices. All coaches are now required to go through the training and to sign release forms; procedures were also created for how coaches are to conduct themselves with students, faculty and other coaches. The ministry now has general liability and officers coverage, and online giving has been moved to PayPal which receipts donors upon transaction. The mentoring and tutoring programs experienced structural changes and new partners. Under the volunteer leadership of Jaclyn Grinnell, FPTB is now partnering with the YMCA, south Tampa campus to provide mentors at Monroe MS and Madison MS. Jaclyn meets regularly with the Student Interventionists at both schools to train volunteers, provide guidance and to be sure programs are running smoothly. Both schools are enjoying success with their mentoring and tutoring programs. Other partnerships include working with area churches and para-churches such as: YMCA, Urban Young Life and FCA. We receive regular financial support of the ministry from South Tampa Fellowship, and club support from Extraordinary Life church and Peninsular Christian Church was a year of change and reconstruction. The ministry continues to work towards the goal of sharing Christ with every student in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties. FPTB plans for 2014 are to have more clubs, more volunteers and more donors; to strengthen its mission and its purpose and to have more of a role in the public school systems; to have a stronger relationship with Spirit FM, area churches, para-churches and community organizations; to increase mentor/tutoring programs and to have more visibility in the community. 5
