RUMORS: FEMA is NOT distributing cash cards or food stamps to victims of Hurricane Sandy. o FEMA's Individuals and Households Program does not provide food assistance or a $300 food voucher. o If you are a survivor in a declared county and have losses other than food, including damage to your home, personal property, or vehicle, you can apply for assistance online or on the phone (see above). 4 Assistance for Businesses and those left unemployed by Hurricane Sandy 1. Unemployment Assistance The first step in applying for disaster unemployment assistance is filing an unemployment claim.
