Playing as an individual at the NCAA Lubbock Regional, Matt Mabrey tied for 14th place after three rounds of action at the par-71 Rawls Course. Mabrey finished at one-under-par 212 with rounds of for his 14th place performance. Mabrey moved up three spots in the final round despite adding two strokes to his score from the previous two rounds. Though he struggled on hole 2, Mabrey came back and sank four birdies on holes 5, 7, 11, and 17. MABREY SELECTED TO ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM... Tulsa senior Matt Mabrey was selected to the all-american Athletic Conference team. Mabrey, who averaged 71.8 strokes-per-round this spring, placed in the top-20 in seven tournaments this season and never finished worse than 31st. HURRICANE WIN UALR/FIRST TEE COLLEGIATE CLASSIC... The University of Tulsa men's golf team won the team trophy at the 2015 UALR/First Tee Collegiate Classic, March 30-31, with a team total of 866. Tulsa was led by senior Matt Mabrey who won individual medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 210. This was the team's best finish since tying for sixth-place at last fall's Jack Nicklaus Invitaional. It was Tulsa's first team title since the season when the team won the National Invitational on March 22, MABREY DOMINATED THE SPRING... Tulsa senior Matt Mabrey finished in the top-10 in three of seven tournaments this spring and had five top-20 finishes. He took home medalist honors at the UALR/First Tee Collegiate Classic after carding a six-under par 210. He also finished with a 207 total, nine-under par, to tie for sixth-place at the Desert Shootout and also finished in seventh place at the Puerto Rico Classic, Feb Mabrey finished three strokes behind the individual medalists with a final score of four-under par 212. STAGGS WINS SEASON OPENER AT WINDON MEMORIAL... The Tulsa men's golf team started the fall 2014 season with a top-ten finish at the Windon Memorial in Evansville, Ill. The Hurricane carded rounds of for an 862 total to finish tied for 8th place. Senior Colton Staggs led the team and won medalist honors at the event after an amazing round 3. Staggs shot a career-low 63 on the par- 70 course, which tied the course and tournament records. Senior Colton Staggs finished in the top-5 of the first two tournaments of the Hurricane's fall season. Staggs carded a spectacular 63 in the final round of the Windon Memorial Classic to take home medalist honors and tie course and tournament record-lows. His 63 is the lowest single-round total for a Tulsa golfer since David Inglis' 63 in the opening round of the 2002 WAC Championships, that he would go on to
2 win. Staggs' seven-under par performance at Windon bested his previous career-low, a 68 at last year's Desert Shootout, by five strokes. He then went on to finish in 5th place at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational after scoring one-under par 70 in the first and third rounds. MABREY IN TOP-20 FOR FIVE STRAIGHT TOURNAMENTS... Senior Matt Mabrey finished in the top-20 for five consecutive tournaments, earning a tie for sixth-place at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational with a 215 three round total, carding a 145 in a rain-shortened two-round event at the Rod Myers Invitational to also tie for 18th place, an 18th place finish at the Intercollegiate at The Grove with a 54-hole score of 224 and a tie for 17th place with a total of 218 at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational, a share of the seventh-place finish at the Puerto Rico Classic with a 212 total score. This is his longest streak of top-20 finishes, his previous best was a run during his freshman year, when he placed T4th, T17th, T10th and T13th in four straight tournaments. BROGDEN FINISHES 29th SEASON AT TULSA... Bill Brogden completed his 29th year as the men's golf coach and assistant athletic director at The University of Tulsa in the season. In 46 years as a collegiate golf coach, Brogden has taken teams to national prominence at four different schools. During that time, his teams have qualified for national competition 37 times, including 19 times to the national championship round. Brogden has earned conference coach of the year accolades 11 times, has been inducted into the GCAA Hall of Fame, has coached 22 All-Americans and has won 16 conference championships. Under Brogden's guidance, Tulsa has won seven Missouri Valley Conference titles and captured the Western Athletic Conference Championship in Tulsa finished as the WAC runner-up in 2001, 2003 and 2004, and in 2005 tied for the school's second WAC title. In , Brogden led the Hurricane to the 2007 Conference USA crown and the NCAA Central Regional title. He was named C- USA and the Central Regional Coach of the Year. 4 Tulsa has made seven appearances at the NCAA Championships under Brogden 1987, 1988, 1995, 2002, 2005, 2007 and In 2002, Brogden s team placed third at the NCAA Central Regional and advanced to the NCAA Championships. The Hurricane entered the final round in second-place and finished with the school s highest national finish with a ninth place performance. Brogden was named the Central Region Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2007 as selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Brogden was named as the TU coach on September 2, 1986 following 10 seasons as the head coach at Oral Roberts University. At ORU, Brogden's teams made seven NCAA Championship appearances, captured six Midwestern Collegiate Conference titles and won 15 tournaments. He was named the National Coach of the Year in 1980 and added the District V Coach of the Year honors in '80, '81 and '85. Before his appointment at ORU, Brogden coached for five years at LSU and two years at Memphis.
