2 Entry Criteria Open to young people between the ages of at the point of application submission, wishing to start and develop their business in Wales. Applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK and start a business in Wales. Candidates can be in education, part time employment, unemployed, have started their business in the 12 months prior to applying or are committed to start in Open to any sort of legal business idea, invention product or service. Have a viable business idea that can be commercialised / scaled within 12 months post bootcamp. Entries can be made by individuals, partnerships or community interest groups. The successful entries progressing to the auditions stage must be available to attend the auditions on the w/c 12th October 2015 at the following locations: - Cardiff - 12th & 13th October - Swansea - 14th & 15th October - Bangor - 16th October If successful at the auditions stage, all applicants must be available to attend and complete the 3 day Bootcamp on the 12th - 15th November Location to be revealed at a later date. Closing date for receiving entries is the 5th October Entries to be sent to Big Ideas Wales, Menter a Busnes, Meandros House, 54a Bute Street, Cardiff Bay, Cardiff, CF10 5AF or electronically to bigideaswales@menterabusnes.co.uk. Candidates wishing to withdraw from the competition at any stage must notify Menter a Busnes immediately. Menter a Busnes and Welsh Government staff are ineligible to apply. Judging and Protecting your Idea The judging panel will be looking for individuals / partnerships with a viable business idea to develop, that can demonstrate the potential to succeed and grow. The judging panel will base their decisions on the criteria set out in the Who s it for? Section. The judges agreed decision is final. The judging panel, along with any member of staff who may deal with your application will be bound by obligations of confidentiality and the relevant Data Protection laws, preventing them from disclosing your information to any other party. All information received will be treated in the strictest confidence. You are responsible for ensuring that your application contains only work produced by you and that it is the result of your own effort and investment.

3 You accept that it is your responsibility to make sure that you are satisfied with the level of protection for your idea in terms of Intellectual Property (or IP) before you submit it to Big Ideas Wales Challenge, and to take your own legal advice on this. More information can be found on the Intellectual Property Website: You are responsible for applying for patent protection in respect of your idea before submitting it to the Big Ideas Wales Challenge if you consider patent protection appropriate. You understand that you may not be able later to apply for patent protection for an idea, which you have disclosed on a non-confidential basis. Please do not include more detail about your idea than you feel comfortable with or than is indicated in the application form and if in any doubt leave it out. However, you should note that, if insufficient detail is provided by you in the application form for the judges to make a proper assessment of your idea, you will not be contacted for further information and your application may be rejected. You must take all reasonable and appropriate steps to minimise the risk of fraud, theft and corruption in your project. If you engage external auditors, you must ask them to report directly to the Challenge organisers Menter a Busnes, of any suspected or actual fraud, theft or corruption identified by them on their examination of your affairs. The Big Ideas Wales Challenge gives no guarantee as to the outcome of your application. Bootcamp You ve made it this is your chance to learn and challenge yourself to be a great business owner. To ensure maximum return for yourself and your business from the residential Bootcamp experience, you need to ensure you: Get involved and immerse yourself fully in the activities and tasks at hand. Apply tips / techniques shared with you from the World Class Entrepreneurs / Guest Speakers into your own business practices. Network fully with other participants / guest speakers and entrepreneurs you never know where future opportunities lie. Ensure you tap into the vast entrepreneurial resource on hand to fully develop your own 12 month Business Development Plan. Explore and justify what additional practical support would make a difference to your business additional support may be on hand to those to show true commitment to their business and the challenge. Allow yourself to be challenged by the entrepreneurs. Arrange follow up meetings / discussions with your assigned Role Model Coach. Travel costs for the Bootcamp will be set at 30p / Mile for anyone driving in excess of 40 miles or more. Other travel expenses will be agreed on an individual basis prior to the event subject to location etc.

4 The Bootcamp venue, accommodation and meals will be paid for by the Welsh Government s Youth Entrepreneurship Services. All participants who complete the Bootcamp must attend all the post challenge regional quarterly Boardroom meetings for up to 12 months. Up to 50 young entrepreneurs will be selected from the Auditions stage to take part in the Bootcamp challenge. Boardroom As part of the package of attending the Bootcamp, all participants will be asked to attend quarterly regional meetings led by teams of Welsh entrepreneurs. The Boardroom is an opportunity to share how things are going with the business, seek additional support and guidance to address the things that may not be going to plan! In addition each participant will be assigned a Role Model Coach, where in between the boardroom meetings they will be on hand to provide valuable feedback and to check on progress. Pledges Any pledges awarded to applicants will be tracked and participants must demonstrate how they have been utilised as part of the business development. All applicants awarded pledges must supply proof of age and address (copy of driving licence, birth certificate, passport etc.). All participants must adhere to the pledges/capital investment conditions. In exceptional circumstances Big Ideas Wales reserve the right to withdraw awarded pledges. All pledges must be accessed and arrangements confirmed to use the pledges within 6 months of being awarded. All pledges are awarded with the agreement of the Business involved. Changes to these Terms & Conditions: Welsh Government reserves the right to make changes and corrections to the Terms and Conditions at any time, without notice or compensation. Any changes will be posted to this page and it is your responsibility as a user to ensure that you are aware of any such changes. Welsh Government may reasonably extend the closing date for applications.

5 How we will use the information you provide? The information you provide within the application form will be held by the First Minister for Wales, Welsh Ministers & Counsel General to the Welsh Assembly (members of the Welsh Government) hereafter referred to as the Welsh Government. It is intended that the information provided within the application form will be shared with the Welsh Government s third party contractors to enable delivery of the Youth Entrepreneurship Services. The purpose for which this information is collected and intended use includes: assessing the suitability of applicants monitoring the diversity of participants sharing information with third party contractors to enable them to communicate with you to monitor, deliver and evaluate the Big Ideas Wales challenge; sharing information with the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO) of individuals located within convergence areas of Wales Following submission of a completed application form, you have the right to request a copy of the personal information held about you and request that the Information Commissioner carry out an assessment of the way in which the Welsh Government has processed personal data about you.
