2 ACADEMIC REGULATIONS FOR THE AWARD OF FULL TIME MBA DEGREE The KL University shall confer MBA Post-graduate degree to candidates who are admitted to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Programs and fulfill all the requirements for the award of the degree. 1.0 ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSIONS: Admission to the above program shall be made subject to the eligibility, qualifications and specialization prescribed by the University for each Program, from time to time Input qualification required for admission in the two year full time MBA Program is a pass in the three or four year first degree program in the /4 pattern of education with a minimum of 50% in aggregate A student should have been declared passed in the previous academic year by the degree granting university for seeking admission in the KL University in the current academic year Admissions shall be made either on the basis of merit rank obtained by the qualifying candidates at an Entrance Test conducted by the KL University or on the basis of CAT/MAT/ATMA/XAT/ICET score, subject to reservations prescribed by the University or Government policies from time to time. 2.0 COURSE WORK: 2.1 A Candidate after securing admission must pursue the MBA course of study for four semesters duration. 2.2 Normally a semester consists of 90 instructional days. 2.3 A candidate has to successfully complete Internship Program and earn a grade as stipulated in these guidelines. 2.4 The registration of a candidate is valid for a period equal to twice the prescribed duration of the Program from the date of registration. 3.0 ATTENDANCE 3.1 A candidate shall be deemed to have eligibility to write comprehensive examination in a course if he has put in at least 75% of attendance in the semester for the named course. 3.2 Condonation of shortage of attendance up to 10% i.e., from 65% and above and less than 75% may be given by the University based on the recommendations of the Dean (Academics). 3.3 Condonation of shortage of attendance may be granted only on genuine and valid reasons on representation by the candidate with supporting evidence only on medical grounds. 3.4 If the candidate does not satisfy the attendance requirement, he is detained for want of attendance and shall re-register again for that semester. He/she shall not be promoted to the next semester.
3 4.0. TEACHING AND EVALUATION I. Teaching a. Course(s) taught by a single instructor (theory) is referred to as single section course and course(s) taught by group of instructors in more than one section is referred to as multisection courses. b. The teacher for single section courses or associated with multi-section courses is referred to as Instructor. c. In case of multi- section courses, the team is led by an instructor known as Course Coordinator. For single section courses, an Instructor will be designated as Course Coordinator. Course Coordinator is also an instructor in multi-section course. d. A team of instructors, under the leadership of Course Coordinator, work together for meeting all requirements of teaching, evaluation and administrative aspects of the course. The Course Coordinator has the responsibility of conducting the course with the cooperation of all instructors in the team. e. Course Handout shall be given to the students. It shall also be placed on the E-Learning portal. f. Students will be assessed on formative basis with a weightage of 40 per cent. The summative assessment carries a weightage of 60 per cent. II. Scheme: SR. NO a) Formative Assessment: Max Marks: 40 COMPONENT DURATION WEIGHTAGE Internal assessment Exams (Test 1 & 2) (75% of the higher score and 25% of the lower score will be considered) Assignment/Assignment Test/Written Case Analysis/ Live Project/Reading Seminar/Miniproject/Paper Presentations/Operation workout Surprise Test - Objective or Descriptive (Average of two tests will be considered) 1½ hours to 20 minutes 4. Class attendance 5 Total 40 i. Two internal assessment exams (Test 1 & Test 2) will be conducted for all courses during the semester. The internal exams will be conducted for 30 marks which in turn will be scaled to 15 marks. The schedule of exams will be notified by the Principal. 15 5
4 ii. A Surprise Test is of objective or subjective nature decided by the Course Coordinator and is conducted without prior intimation. There will be two such tests in a semester. iii. Assignment/Assignment Test/Written Case Analysis/ Live Project/Reading Seminar/Miniproject/Paper Presentations/Operation workout: One or two of these components as detailed in Table No. 1 will be implemented for each course. Applicable component(s) will also be detailed in the Course Handout. Wherever applicable, presentation by a student would be integrated with the component. iv. Class attendance is monitored by each Instructor and based on the percentage of attendance marks are awarded. v. In order to maintain transparency in evaluation, the answer sheets of all formative assessment components shall be shown to the students within THREE days of conducting the tests. If a student is not convinced with the marks awarded he/she can apply for recheck. However, the student can apply for recheck on the day of returning the answer sheet within the classroom only. vi. It shall be the responsibility of the Course Coordinator to display solution key on the notice board immediately after the evaluation component with evaluation scheme. The Instructor should stick to the evaluation scheme announced while checking the answer sheets. vii. Where there are multiple Course Instructors, the Coordinator shall ensure that a common question paper is administered for Test 1 and Test 2. b. The student is expected to make field visit to see the concept in operation. Information shall be collected from the organization and presented in a written report. Normally a student is required to spend 2-3 hours per Operation Workout. Presentation shall be made for 5 minutes on the concept studied. 5 per OW 5 per OW Target: Two Operation Workouts per course B Live Project Each student shall be given a separate title based on concepts of a Course. Information shall be collected from the organization and presented in a written report. Evidence of the concept in operation has to be brought out clearly. Normally a student is required to spend hours per Live Project. Presentation shall be made for 15 minutes on the concept studied. Target: One Live Project per course C Case Analysis A case study shall be given in the classroom, which was not discussed in the classroom previously. Students shall be given 45 minutes to read the case study and write an analysis of the same. 5 Marks - Target: One case per course D Reading Seminar Each student shall be assigned a topic of the course. The student is expected to identify relevant literature from EBSCO and select 3 research papers. Student shall review the literature and present a report in prescribed format. 10 per RS 5 per RS Target: One Reading Seminar per course. E Paper Presentation Instructor shall identify papers for presentation by the students. Papers suggested for presentation shall be classic articles/books related to the Program. It is preferable to give one paper to each student. In case of a book, students could be given a team task with each student assigned some chapters. 10 marks for summary of the paper/ book. 5 marks for presentation Target: One paper presentation per course F Assignment Test Ten questions shall be given to the students in advance. The students have to come prepared for writing a test based on 10 marks per assignme -

If it is based on problem solving, the students would be required to answer in the classroom. For literature based assignment plagiarism should be checked. 5 Marks per assignme nt - Note: parameters for components such as Operation Workout, Live Project, Reading Seminar, Case Analysis, Assignment, Paper Presentation and Mini Project would be issued separately. All Course Instructors are required to implement them. For evaluation of presentations, apart from the Course Instructor one subject matter expert (SME) should also be present. Name of the SME may be identified in consultation with the Head of the Department. c. General Structure of the Question Paper for the Test 1 and Test 2: S. Each question carries one mark. All questions are compulsory to answer. There will be no sub-questions. Section B: Questions based on the application of concepts, models, problem-solving, etc. would be included in this section. One question from each unit will be given. Students have to answer two questions out of three. Each question has two sub-questions. Students will be tested on the entire curriculum. General Structure of the Question Paper for the Comprehensive Examinations: S. Each question carries one mark. All questions are compulsory to answer. There will be no sub-questions. Section B: Questions based on the application of concepts, models, problem-solving, etc. would be included in this section. One question from each unit will be given. Students have to answer four questions out of six. Each question has two sub-questions. Section C: Students have to write a written case analysis or solve a problem or answer an application essay question. There is no choice provided. 8 Stage Weightage Remarks Preplacement Offer 5% A written placement offer from the SIP Company confirming to the PPO guidelines. Detailed guidelines shall be issued at the commencement of internship which would cover the above evaluation components. f. Management Thesis: The components of evaluation for the Management Thesis are provided below: Stage Weightage Remarks Approval of Title Literature Review 40% 5% Title shall be approved by a Thesis Committee constituted by the Director. Title once finalized shall not be changed in the normal course. 20% 10% of weightage shall be given to written report on critical review of literature. Each student must review a minimum of 5 contemporary papers. Remaining 10% shall be awarded through continuous evaluation given for the presentation and the articulation of literature reviewed. 15% It is a comprehensive research proposal. is based on the written proposal and viva-voce. Research Proposal Term Paper 60% 15% The paper is predominantly based on review of literature. Marks shall be awarded based on the parameters notified from time to time. Interim Thesis 20% 10% of weightage is assigned to the written interim Thesis. The balance 10% is assigned to the interim presentation. Final Thesis 25% 15% of weightage is assigned to the written final Thesis. The balance 10% is assigned to the final presentation. Guidelines for Management Thesis, including detailed description of above components of evaluation shall be circulated at the commencement of the semester. g. Marks for attendance: a) In each course attendance will be treated as evaluation component and marks are awarded as shown below: % of Attendance in Theory & Practical classes Marks awarded (%) and < and < and < 85 2
9 % of Attendance in Theory & Practical classes Marks awarded (%) 75 and < 80 1 h. Requirement of Minimum Marks: a. A student should secure a minimum of 40% in PG Programs in internal exams. This means that a student must secure minimum 16 marks out of 40 marks. b. A student of PG Program must secure a minimum of 40% in Comprehensive Examination i.e. 24 marks out of 60 marks. c. Students who do not secure minimum marks in internal evaluation would be detained in that course. d. Students who do not secure minimum marks in comprehensive evaluation would be awarded F grade. e. A student who fails in Lab component of evaluation for a course shall be detained in the theoretical component also GRADING: At the end of all evaluation components based on the performance of the student in courses, each student is awarded with a letter grade. The list of letter grades and their connotation are given below: Grade Qualitative Meaning Grade Point attached X Excellent 10 A Very Good 8 B Good 7 C Fair 6 D Satisfactory 5 E Pass 4 F Fail 0 The grades X and F will be earned and remaining grades will be awarded. A student getting less than 40% in comprehensive examination or less than 40% marks in the internal assessment will be considered to have earned F grade. In the combined theory and lab courses along with overall 40% score the student should get independently 40% in both theory and lab components else treated as failed and has to take the examination again in total in both theory and practical.
10 4.0 AWARD OF DEGREE: A candidate shall be eligible for the award of MBA degree if he satisfies the minimum academic requirements in every subject. For the award of MBA degree a student must have obtained a minimum CGPA of WITHHOLDING OF RESULTS: If the candidate has not paid dues to the University or if any case of indiscipline is pending against him, the result of the candidate shall be withheld and he will not be allowed/ promoted into the next higher semester. The issue of degree is liable to be withheld in such cases. 6.0 TRANSITORY REGULATIONS: Candidates who have discontinued or have been detained for want of attendance or who have failed after having undergone the course in earlier regulations and wish to continue the course are eligible for admission into the unfinished semester from the date of commencement of class work with the same or equivalent subjects as and when subjects are offered. Whereas he continues to be in the academic regulations he was first admitted. 7.0 PROGRAM STRUCTURE FOR TWO YEAR FULL TIME MBA PROGRAM: The program structure for the two year full time MBA Program approved by the Board of Studies and the Academic Council will be applicable/implemented. 8.0 GENERAL: i. The academic regulations should be read as a whole for purpose of any interpretation. ii. The academic regulations mentioned herein have to be read with the other relevant regulations of the University that are in vogue. iii. Malpractices rules: Shall be governed as per the University norms. iii. Where the words he, him, his, occur in the regulations, they include she, her, hers. iv. In the case of any doubt or ambiguity in the interpretation of the above rules, the decision of the Vice-Chancellor is final and binding. v. The University may change or amend the academic regulations or syllabi at any time and the changes or amendments shall be made applicable to all the students on rolls with effect from the dates notified by the University. ******
