To qualify the course a candidate is required to secure a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate including the semester end examination and teachers continuous examination (i.e., both internal and external). A candidate who secures less than 40% of marks in a course shall be deemed to have failed in that course. The student should have at least 50% marks in aggregate to clear the semester. In case a student has more than 40% in each course but less than 50% aggregate in a semester, he/ shall reappear in courses where the marks are less than 50% to achieve the required aggregate percentage of 50% in the semester. Question paper structure 1. The question paper shall consist of two sections A&B. 2. Section A shall have eight short answer questions covering the entire syllabus and is compulsory. Student shall be required to answer any five questions (weightage 4 marks each). 3. Section B shall have seven questions and student shall be required to attempt any five questions. 8 Library Visit: Report and Seminar Course Code: MLS152 L T P C Objective: The objective of the course is to give exposure to the student on the library management practices followed in the libraries. I. Introduction: covering the historical background of the library. II. Organization and management III. Different types of collections IV. No. of sections and type of services offered V. Technical processing VI. Automation technologies used by the library VII. Rules and regulations of the library VIII. Summary and suggestions IX. Bibliography Seminar: Every student shall prepare a project report based on the format mentioned above. There shall be power point presentation by the student under the guidance of a teacher. The evaluation shall be by a panel of two faculty nominated by the HOD. Assessment criteria- 100 marks Internal assessment shall be made on the following basis: i. Project Report based on a visit to library 50 marks ii. Seminar presentation 30 marks iii. 14 Dissertation Course Code: MLS 252 L T P C Objective: The objective is to prepare the students to write a research project in standard format on any of the current problems in the area of library and information. There shall be one dissertation on an approved topic with the approval of HOD under the guidance of the teacher. The evaluation shall be done both by the internal supervisor (out of 50 marks) and the external examiner appointed by the university (out of 50 marks). Guidelines for the project 1. General introduction may be related to the need, importance and utility of the proposed research work. 2. Literature review giving brief summary of the important studies on the selected topic. 3. Objectives, scope and limitations. 4. Research methodology adopted for the project work a. Statement of research problems. b. Research design. c. Sources of data collection. d. Data analysis. e. Reference / Bibliography as per AACR-II. Evaluation criteria: I. Internal evaluation : 50 marks a. Quality of project report evaluated by the external examiner : 20 marks b. Presentation before two member committee appointed by HOD : 30 marks II.
