LANGLEY Access the leading technology in Photovoltaic solutions PEOPLE TRUST LANGLEY Over the past 80 years we have designed and supplied quality bespoke roofing systems for a wide range of public and commercial buildings. Throughout that time, our goal has been to work in partnership with our contractors and deliver a high-quality, personalised service, based on our extensive range of high-performance system solutions and accessories. Langley s trusted roofing systems Flat-to-Pitched Green Roofing Built-up Roofing Liquid Roofing Polymer Modified Asphalt LEADING THE WAY IN PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLUTIONS The technology required to harness daylight and use it to generate electricity has been available to us for some time. However, compared to other forms of energy production it represents a vast untapped resource, one that can be capitalised on in a controlled manner by using well-proven photovoltaic (PV) technology. Harnessing this enormous energy source by designing PV systems into modern buildings whether on the roof or as a part of other building elements can transform their eco credentials, create a sustainable power supply and bring compelling commercial benefits to the end-user or building owner. At Langley, we have already earned an enviable reputation for the exceptional standards of our roofing solutions and services. By combining this with the very latest in PV technology and systems we have created a superior, single-source solution. Our customers benefit from a seamless service and our quality standards are assured thanks to our network of highly trained and approved contractors, all of whom are supported every step of the way by our own trusted and experienced technical team. While others are still wondering if solar power might offer advantages in the future, we help you benefit from it today. Paul Leadley: Special Projects Manager 2

LANGLEY Reduce dependency on electricity from the national grid WHY PV MAKES SOUND BUSINESS SENSE Having a PV system integrated with your building can deliver many tangible benefits; including the reduction of your energy dependency from the national grid and a decrease in your building s carbon footprint. In addition, the Government s Feed-in Tariff (FiT) incentive scheme encourages the use of PV technology. This clean energy cash-back programme rewards those who generate their own electricity and also pays a bonus on assumed energy fed back into the grid. FiTs are guaranteed for 25 years from the date of commissioning the system and are paid by all electricity providers. FiTs are inflationary linked and reviewed annually (1st April), meaning that your investment in a PV system provides an inflation proof return. HOW IT ADDS UP The financial yields to be made from PV technology can be considerable. The table below shows the different tariffs for systems of various sizes. Size of installation The potentially significant financial yields to be made from PV technology can represent a genuine source of revenue for the end user. Typically one kwh supplied by the national grid costs a household/building 13p to purchase, yet FiTs will pay 37.8p for each kwh generated from an array producing between 4-10kWp, making an overall saving for the user of 50.8p. In the case of a typical 51 panel system, the output would be approximately 9.43kWp. Type of installation Pence per kwh Generation Tariff 4 kwp New Build kwp Retrofit 43.3 >4-10 kwp New Build/Retrofit 37.8 >10-50 kwp New Build/Retrofit 32.9 Figures correct at time of print. FiTs are inflationary linked and are reviewed annually (1st April). This could generate up to 8,400kWh of electricity per year, making a considerable contribution to a building s energy requirements. This type of system has the potential to generate in excess of 3,300 of inflationary linked revenue per year, recouping the installation costs in years and providing an overall combined revenue and savings return of approximately 100,000. Above based on Retail Price Index inflation per annum of 4% and energy cost inflation per annum of 8%. 4
PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLUTIONS Potential revenue generator RETURN ON INVESTMENT BENEFITS 160 RETURN 000 S INVESTMENT Assured return on investment Energy security Future profit streams Control and analyse energy usage and management Positive legacy Corporate reputation Social responsibility YEARS Graph assumes no borrowing or maintenance costs. The Return on investment table is based on a typical application of 51 solar panels on a 65m 2 roof area with module efficiency of 80%. An initial cash investment of 50k installing a PV system is paid back after an 11 year period and after 25 years the revenue and savings generated is approximately 150k, leaving a profit of 100k over the 25 year period. For larger scale projects a cost neutral finance option is available utilising both Hire Purchase and Lease Purchase. Please contact a local Langley representative for further details. 5
LANGLEY Rising to the CO 2 challenge THE CHALLENGE AHEAD In early 2011, the Government produced its fourth Carbon Budget, setting a huge challenge to cut UK emissions by 48% by By 2050 they expect the buildings sector to be carbon neutral, therefore the time to act is now. The biggest opportunity to achieve this target lies in better management and improvement of existing building stock. A building contributes to its carbon footprint through the day to day use of energy which in its production creates carbon dioxide. As CO 2 is not a bi-product of photovoltaic energy production, incorporating PVs onto an existing building can significantly lower CO 2 emissions, thus reducing its carbon footprint. PV solutions are one of the cleanest forms of energy generation; with an abundance of free energy from daylight and no waste products, it presents an immediate opportunity to access renewable resources. By far the most attractive applications for PV systems are the commercial and refurbishment sectors where the tariff rates, which are ideally suited to small and medium sized arrays under 50kWp, combined with the potential project sizes can generate considerable return on investment. The more unobstructed the roof space available, the more panels can be installed and the most effective orientation can be achieved, therefore the higher the yield and the better the return. FiTs are reviewed each year, however the rate is guaranteed and set at the point of installation for 25 years which negates any risks of financial uncertainty. More than 70% of all new installations come from small and medium sized PV systems. EPIA Press Release February

LANGLEY HOW A PV SYSTEM WORKS When light falls onto a PV module an electrical field forms across the cells layers of semi-conducting materials, causing electricity to flow. This is fed to an Inverter which converts the Direct Current (DC) into a useble Alternating Current (AC). The AC then flows through the Total Generation Meter into the Consumer Unit, this in turn powers any electrical appliances in the building. 3 2 Modern PV modules do not need bright light in order to operate and will remain fully operational even under a cloudy or overcast sky. Langley use a robust Rack and Rail system to fix each PV array we install. The system is securely bonded with mechanically fixed pads into the fabric of the roof, guaranteeing a permanent and fully watertight fixture for the lifetime of the roof. By incorporating the PV system at the time of roof build-up, you minimise the risk of costly maintenance being required due to waterproofing failure at the point of the PV fixture. This gives our customers the confidence to view a Langley system as a rewarding, long-term investment. 11 PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLUTIONS Partnerships based on quality and trust RIGHT FIRST TIME INSTALLATION The importance of getting every project right first time should never be underestimated. That is why we have forged alliances with the very best installers across the UK. Each installer is constantly monitored to ensure that their quality of workmanship and contract management meets our stringent requirements at all times. I ve used Langley for many years now because of the excellent systems and service they provide. They completely project manage the scheme with their contractor from beginning to end and give me a comprehensive guarantee. They take the roofing out of my hands - I trust them. Seun Olateju: Homes for Islington. TRAINED TO THE HIGHEST STANDARDS At Langley we only deal with partner companies whose principles mirror our own. This is evident in both our choice of contractors and their level of expertise. The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) places quality and safety control procedures upon contractors carrying out renewable energy installations. In order to qualify for the FiT scheme, PV systems must be installed by an MCS Accredited contractor. This provides clients with confidence that their system will achieve the highest quality and safety standards available. We have developed a Langley training scheme through our MCS Accredited associate trainers, who are dedicated solely to renewable energy installer training. Contractors on the course benefit from the programmes being carried out by tutors who are experienced MCS Accredited installers themselves. By completing this training, contractors gain expertise specifically in Langley s PV systems and complete their first step towards MCS Accreditation. 11
LANGLEY Guarantees up to 25 years OUR INSURANCE BACKED SYSTEM GUARANTEE As part of our drive for excellence, we assist with contractor selection and monitor ongoing projects to ensure compliance with the criteria of our Independent Insurance-Backed Guarantees. Our confidence in the products and services we provide are reflected in the guarantees we offer, which can cover a period of up to 25 years. We choose not to offer guarantees that require annual payments, preferring instead to supply single premium insurance-backed guarantees that cover your specific project against failure in product, workmanship and design. The reason is simple - in return for a single premium payment, your project obtains its own insurance policy. This is not affected by any change in building owner or the ongoing existence of the original contractor or supplier. Quite simply you can rely on the guarantee - which is dependent on a survey by the insurance inspector - to still be in existence throughout the period of cover. This independent approach provides complete reassurance to our customers, as the insurance certificate is only issued once Langley and the insurance company are satisfied with the completed project. Langley also carries Professional Indemnity Insurance (PI) on our roofing designs for any one claim up to 2 million. Clients can rest assured that thier Langley PV system is covered from the moment it is installed including structural calculations, roofing works (if included), our Rack and Rail system and calculated PV output. LANGLEY WATERPROOFING SYSTEMS LIMITED 12
PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLUTIONS Langley long term commitment AFTER THE JOB IS DONE Every project is backed by outstanding technical support and installed by Langley and MCS Accredited contractors. The PV system will require little to no maintenance once guarantees have been issued. Clients can rest assured that the system will be assessed by our project surveyor to ensure roof and PV panel integrity, plus connectivity and solar panel operation. Infra-red thermal scanning technology can be used to check the system once it goes live and can be used at future intervals to inspect the systems performance. Post installation, our customers can be provided with the facility to monitor the daily output of their PV system through a web based portal. This portal allows customers to track their usage and revenue generated by their system. This website is also designed to provide alerts if the system suffers any malfunctions, giving peace of mind that problems will be recognised quickly and can be corrected with minimal loss of revenue.
