2 The Full Project Life Cycle Approach to Waterproofing Poetically, construction involves the translation of designs into reality. In practice, construction is a complex process and involves many different professions striving to meet various technical, financial and other project demands. An important but often neglected aspect of the construction process is waterproofing. It is important to get waterproofing right as leakages can be very damaging, to both property and occupants. Waterproofing does not begin only when construction has started. Right from project initiation, understanding the ground and soil conditions, and modifying it into suitable ground construction surface, waterproofing has to be considered. Long after construction has been completed, and sometimes during construction, one may also have to think about waterproofing repair. 4 Soil Stabilisation and Waterproofing Before construction begins, and especially in the case of below ground construction, the soil may need to be chemically or mechanically treated to improve its strength for load bearing and waterproofing against surface water. Organosol series is a range of phthalate-free, fast-reacting, high-foaming, organo mineral injection grouts for applications such as void filling, ground and rock consolidation. Rockstab is a phthalate-free, fast-reacting, two-component rigid foam polyurethane injection system for filling large voids or cracks, rock consolidation, and for structural injections that require high compressive strength.

5 Preventative Waterproofing The Grace range of preventative waterproofing products are used during new construction and include bentonite strips, hydrophilic mastics and rubbers, injection hoses and cementitious coatings for basement waterproofing. It is easy to install, with no interruption to building activities, and seals permanently after injection. Swellseal is a hydrophilic waterproofing strip for sealing joints in tunnel segments, underground precast elements, horizontal and vertical construction joints and concrete to steel joints. Capable of reversible swelling in wet dry cycles, Swellseal has good chemical and impact resistance. Flexible with high swelling capacity, it can absorb small movements in the construction. Hydro Active Flex is a series of high performance, phthalate-free, onecomponent hydrophobic, flexible polyurethane injection grouts for waterproofing leaking joints and cracks. With choices of different expansion rates and reaction times, it can perform at a wide range of applications. Re-injecto LB are re-injectable injection hoses for consecutive injection with Omnitek Inject micro fine cement or Gelacryl resins, to seal construction joints, pipe joints, joints between diaphragm walls and slabs. They are easy to install and handle, using the twinbox system. Re-injection allows for future remedial work in case of leaks. Gelacryl is a range of poly-acrylate gel developed for injection into pores, cracks, capillaries, voids and honeycombed concrete. For preventative waterproofing, it can be injected into Re-injecto LB injection hoses. Gelacryl has excellent adhesion to concrete and good chemical resistance.

6 Remedial Waterproofing In the event of waterproofing failure, due to specification and use of inappropriate waterproofing systems or improper application, repair of leaks needs to take place quickly to prevent further damage and delays to construction schedules. Locating the source of leakages, and identifying the right material for the repair, are equally critical to prevent the problem from recurring. It can withstand high to very high hydrostatic pressure and flow rates. It reacts and sets very fast, up to less than 60 seconds in salt water at -3 C. A low viscosity material, it can be used with inert fillers. Hydro Active Flex Series This series of flexible polyurethane injection grout can be used to fill and repair joints and cracks in concrete constructions which are subject to movement. Some products within this range can also be used for curtain injections behind tunnel segments. Its hydrophobic action means there is no dilution or loss due to water inflow.

7 Deneblock UF A phthalate-free, two-component, ultra fast blocker for blocking large leaks. It has ultra fast reaction, even when injected into flowing water. Hydro Active Safefoam Series An environmentally safe, polyurethane injection resin for waterproofing moving and non-moving joints, grouting joints and repairing leaks in concrete structures. Gelacryl Series A range of poly-acrylate gel developed for injection into pores, cracks, capillaries, voids and honeycombed concrete. For repair, it can be re-injected into preventative tubes such as Re-injecto LB injection hoses. Gelacryl TI s linear viscosity increase allows the re-injection process to be monitored.
