1 Introduction A lare number of cables and conductors in many different types and desins are used to connect electrical and electronic components. The cables and wires must be accurately prepared for the various types of connection. The quality of the cuttin process is therefore of critical importance. Mechanical efficiency toether with the special cuttin pattern reduces the manual force required to a minimum. Weidmüller is a specialist in the provision of tools for cuttin copper or aluminium cables. 2 At Weidmüller the term cuttin refers to the severin of cables, wires and conductors of copper or aluminium with an appropriate tool for the application. The requirement for all cuttin tools is to perform a smooth, straiht cut without deformin the conductor. Accordin to DIN 5, experts differentiate between shear cuttin, wede-action cuttin, tearin and breakin. Shear cuttin is employed particularly in the cuttin of cables, wires and conductors. tools with cross blades should perform an oblique cut and operate without play. The essential quality characteristics for professional cuttin tools are a cuttin ede shape which is suited to, and optimised for, the correspondin application, so that the manual forces required for cuttin remain low. This allows sinle-handed operation. Tools by Weidmüller comply with all requirements imposed on professional cuttin tools. Movement of the blades We differentiate between two basic cuttin processes: Push cut Draw cut In push cut, the cuttin movement is perpendicular between tool and workpiece. In draw cut, the cuttin movement is oblique to the tool. Clean cut Insulation Conductor An unclean cut may have the followin appearance: Position of the blades In position 1 the blades act directly and over the whole lenth, i.e. considerable force is required.
