2 About the School The School of Nursing (SON) at The University of Jordan was established in 1972 by a Royal Decree. It was the first program in Jordan to offer a Baccalaureate Degree in nursing which was established by foreign nursing faculty. At the beginning, the School was a department at the Faculty of Medical Sciences until 1977, when the School of Nursing became an independent School and the university administration dedicated the resources to build the Jordanian Nursing Faculty capacity. The SON was the first school in Jordan to offer specialized and advanced graduate nursing education. The graduate program (MSN) in nursing education began in Degree program offerings continued to expand and in a pioneer step in 2005, the School of Nursing established the first PhD program in Jordan. Since it was established, the School of Nursing continued to create a high impact role in terms of preparing future scholars and leaders in nursing, serving national and regional communities, and continuing to develop nursing competencies through specialized courses and continuing education programs. School vision, mission, goals and intended learning outcomes: Our Vision To be a leading, global school in the areas of nursing education, research and community services. Our Mission The School of Nursing dedicates itself to improve health and wellbeing of society through preparing professional nurses to provide quality nursing care, conduct research and provide community service. The school provides a model learning environment that encourages life-long learning, innovation, and professional and personal development.

7 Our Departments: The SON has there administrative departments; the Clinical Nursing includes 4 sections: Foundations of Professional Nursing, Health Assessment, Adult Health Nursing 1, and Adult Health Nursing 2. Maternal and Child Health Department has 2 sections: Maternal Health Nursing and Child and Adolescence Health Nursing, and Community Health Nursing department has sections: Mental Health Nursing, Community Health Nursing, and Management and Leadership in Nursing. These sections, headed by faculty course coordinators hold regular separate meetings to organize clinical practice schedules, exams, students assignments, rotations and clinical settings, for purposes of bridging theory and practice. 1. Department of Clinical Nursing receives students in their first, second, and third year of study. It provides them with basic knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed in the areas of foundation of nursing, caring of adult clients, and caring of critically ill. The students are prepared to practice nursing starting from the lab and ending in specialized care units. 10 Our Programs: The academic programs in nursing, prepare individuals for professional roles. In addition, these programs prepare individuals for collaboration with other professionals and consumers in the delivery of holistic health care, health-related research, and advocacy for the improvement of health outcomes. Bachelor of Science: Undergraduate nursing education builds on a foundation of studies in the sciences, humanities, and arts. The baccalaureate program prepares competent, selfdirected, independent, and safe practitioner and generalist (Registered Nurses) who can assume increasing responsibility and leadership in the delivery of evidence-based nursing care. Master of Science: The Graduate program offers a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with preparation as a clinical nurse specialist in the areas of Critical Care, Palliative Care and Psychiatric-Mental Health.
