1 Ithaca College Sponsored Research REACHE Funding Program: Guidelines and Application Purpose: The REACHE (Research to Enhance Academic Collaboration in Higher Education) internal grant program seeks to identify and promote promising research at Ithaca College. REACHE funding is intended to support the development of research and scholarly endeavors of IC faculty and staff members, particularly pilot and exploratory projects that hold the possibility of leading to substantial research programs suitable for support by external funding agencies. Eligibility: All faculty and staff members are eligible to apply to the REACHE funding program. All REACHE applications must include a plan and timeline to leverage the REACHE funding by subsequent application to an external funding agency within three months of completing their REACHE project. Depending on the pool of proposals and the amount of REACHE funding available, proposals with well-justified budgets ranging from $500 to $4,000 will be considered. REACHE funds are limited to 12 months of support and may not be carried over from fiscal year to fiscal year. When the REACHE project is approved, the budgeted funds will be disbursed on a proportional basis relative to the fiscal year(s) and intended start date of the project. For example, if the REACHE application is approved in January and the project is intended to start April 1 of that fiscal year, the faculty or staff member would receive two (2) months of the twelve (12) month funding in that current fiscal year (for April and May) and the remaining ten (10) months of funding in the next fiscal year. In this example, funding would end the following March 31. Proposals will be reviewed by a sub-committee of three (3) or more members of the Ithaca College Research Council, representing broad areas of research, scholarship, and creative activity across the campus. Reviews and recommendations will be forwarded to the Director of Sponsored Research for final decision.

2 Instructions: To apply, a faculty or staff member should submit the following application to the Director of Sponsored Research at least thirty (30) days prior to the start date of the proposed project. The submission will be reviewed and, if approved, the applicant(s) will be notified in writing. In the application, the faculty or staff member must describe: How REACHE funding will directly support the research or scholarly interests at Ithaca College. Priority will be given to pilot/exploratory projects designed to lead to applications for external funding. A list of specific external funding opportunities (e.g., Federal Funding Opportunity Announcements or Private Foundation Requests for Proposals ) that may be suitable targets for subsequent research/scholarship and that he or she plans to pursue. A timeline for the project along with a budget that specifies how the monies will be expended. Please note that REACHE funding may not be used for ordinary conference travel or general support of student assistants. If the proposal is funded, the faculty or staff member will be expected to provide a final report of the project along with a detailed plan of next steps. The final report and detailed plan (including intended applications to external funding agencies) must be submitted within three (3) months of the funding end date of the project. As previously stated, funding is only approved for 12 months and is on an academic year basis. Funds cannot be rolled over into the next academic year. The applicant should also include the account number where approved funds should be transferred. The faculty or staff member must complete and sign the application form, and submit it to the Director of Sponsored Research.
