1 Information and Communication Technology BCcampus Online Collaborative Program Computer Support Technician Certificate (CST) Server Management ICT 234 Course Outline COURSE IMPLEMENTATION DATE: September 2014 OUTLINE EFFECTIVE DATE: September 2015 COURSE OUTLINE REVIEW DATE: June 2020 GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION: The main goal of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Microsoft Windows Server and to prepare students to tackle server administration. The course focuses on selecting server and client hardware; installing and configuring a server; managing users, groups and computer accounts; setting up and managing network printing services; understanding the elements of Active Directory and security; managing and implementing backup and disaster recovery; administering web resources; monitoring and tuning a server; and troubleshooting problems. Another goal is to prepare students for the Windows Server certification exam. Information about this document: This Course Outline describes the curriculum of the CST Collaborative. Individual CST courses may be delivered by any one of the participating institutions within the collaborative. When this course is delivered by COTR, any differences, additions or specific configurations will be clearly identified. Program Information: This course is a required course for the Systems Administration and Database Administration specialties of the CST program. It can also be used as an elective for a more general CST Certificate. Delivery: This course is delivered online. COTR Credits: 3

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon the successful completion of this course, students should be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Windows Server in the areas of primary user and administration tasks; install, configure, troubleshoot and administer an Active Directory environment; define, configure and implement a Group Policy Management Strategy; plan for and perform common disaster recovery strategies for Active Directory; and install and configure Active directory Certificate Services.
