1 Major change for BERT and BEWT Funds! Effective 16 July, Master Builders Queensland took over 50% ownership of the BERT and BEWT Funds. They also took 50% ownership of BERT Training Fund (BTF). Previously, 50% of the ownership belonged to the Queensland Major Contractors Association (QMCA). This share ownership has now been transferred to Master Builders Queensland. John Crittall (Director - Construction Policy- Master Builders Queensland) said it was appropriate Master Builders Queensland plays a role in the Funds. As the leading employer association in the Queensland Building and Construction Industry the Master Builders Queensland has a responsibility to be actively involved, similar to the role they play in CIP Limited. Bill Wallace (General Manager - BERT / BEWT and CIP Limited) said it was very exciting for the Funds with Master Builders Queensland coming on board. He paid tribute to outgoing Director Chris Stanley (Project Director - Infrastructure North West) who has been a Director for 18 years. Financial Planning Benefit

3 The CIP girls (Kate, Amanda A, Amanda D) and Prof John Hooper touring the TRI Centre, Brisbane Prostate Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men*. There has been a 144% increase in incidents of the disease between 1982 to 2009*. With your generosity CIP have been able to raise an incredible $490,000 in the past 10 years to help Mater researchers undertake vital research into this debilitating and life-threatening disease. Mater's prostate cancer research efforts Thanks to the efforts of researchers such as those at Mater, the five year survival rate of prostate cancer patients has increased from 59% in 1986 to an amazing 90% in The philanthropic support of CIP has enabled some of the exciting projects Mater researchers currently are working on, including: Research uncovering a cell receptor that appears to promote the growth of tumours in the bone - a painful process that occurs once prostate cancer has spread to the bone Research investigating how the immune system responds to prostate and ovarian cancer in the hope of developing a vaccine. A study into advanced castrate-resistant prostate cancer looking at whether there is a symptom burden difference between chemotherapy-treated and untreated prostate cancer patients. A study mapping the journey of aggressive prostate cancer including symptoms, quality of life, service use, support care needs and the burden of the disease on families and carers. DNA sequencing to study the genetics of cancer biology using an Ion Proton semiconductor, to gain a greater understanding of the disease. A thank you "The visionary philanthropic support of donors to Mater Foundation like you is essential to our prostate cancer research efforts. It allows us to take a multi-disciplinary approach to tackling what can be a debilitating disease. It also permits us to take on challenging new research directions that have the greatest potential, but often don't get funded by mainstream, less risk-adverse funding bodies." Associate Professor John Hooper

All employers sign the employer application for the membership form which states the following: I / We hereby agree to be bound by the Constitution and By Laws of the Company and to make insurance contributions to the Insurer in respect of each insured Worker, at the rate to be determined by the Directors of the Company in accordance with the terms of the Constitution from time to time As an example: if an employee is receiving CIP benefits for an illness and subsequently has a heart attack, this employee will not be covered for the secondary issue if their payments are not maintained throughout his employment. Accordingly employers are obliged to maintain contribution payments for their employees whilst on CIP benefits for as long as the employee remains employed. 5 BERT would like to thank all of the attendees at the breakfast held on Wednesday 17 June at the Victoria Park Golf Complex. With over 240 attendees and special guests Honourable Cameron Dick and Guest Speaker Aiden Grimes, BERT raised over $5,000 towards the MATES in Construction Kokoda Trek coming up in September this year. The purpose of the breakfast was to raise awareness of the event taking place in September and serve as a last opportunity for registrations to join in the 2015 trek. The trekker numbers have now reached 36 trekkers with another 7 signing up on the day at the breakfast. Thank you again to all the wonderful organisations and individuals that supported this breakfast, your contribution on the day has gone towards raising funds and awareness for the critical work MATES in Construction are doing in our industry. Team some of last years Inaugral trekking team
6 Our lads Peter Close and Bill Wallace braving the trek in 2015 for MATES Meet our Kokoda Trekkers for 2015 BERT and CIP are well and truly part of the MATES in Construction Kokoda Trek this year with our very own General Manager - Bill Wallace taking up the challenge. He will be trekking along side Building Construction Coordinator Peter Close and to make sure these two behave themselves Business Engagement Manager Amanda Arrowsmith is joining them for what will be another sensational journey, and we hope will be a successful generation of fundraising for the MATES cause. Joining the team are Mick Booth from BERT Training Fund and Ray Abi-fares from MATES in Construction. Last year's inaugural team of trekkers raised over $145,000 for suicide prevention and awareness within our industry and we know this year's trekkers have a taste for competition and are planning on surpassing this target.

While all attendees were winners on the day special mention must go to: First Place - The Fugen / Hutchies Team - Josh Clarke; Peter Marsh & David Mobberley Winners of Last Place - The BEWT Team "BEWT-ies" - Amanda Arrowsmith; Kate Fitzgerald, Pippa Walton & Jill Wallace On behalf of BERT / CIP we thank everyone who participated and sponsored the event.
